Hotel Stein Colonial

Very personal hospitality, excellent service standards. A palace and haven of elegance close to downtown.

The hotel itself is beautiful, and the check-in experience was great, they even allowed me to check in early, which I really appreciated. The rooms are spacious, the staff are amazing, and the location is excellent.

The only downside for me was the breakfast. It felt very basic: the orange juice wasn’t fresh, the same fruit salad was served every day, and you could only choose one main dish (eggs, pancakes, or a sandwich), none of which were particularly tasty. I honestly think the breakfast needs a complete rethink, as it doesn’t match the high quality of the rest of the hotel experience.

Breakfast options. The manager/owner was always around, checking everything was OK.It is surrounded by many trees and flowers.

Not friendly for people with mobility disabilities, it has plenty of stairs.

The property is lovely very Spanish colonial architecture. We stayed in the addition to the main castle it was quiet but the street noise was constant. The room could use an upgrade beds etc. all beds where to small length wise. We were happy because the property was pet welcoming the owner has 4 dogs 2 cats. Our dogs where so happy to have friends

The thing I didnt like is that the ametities such as the pool and fitness center were not available. They should put the notification here that is currently out of service.

The staff was excellent, the hotel was very clean and the food was very good

We booked 2 rooms. There was no hot water for 1 day. Also, there was a staircase in the room, which was difficult for our elderly mother. We did not see this staircase in the photos.

The building is wonderful, you can go back in time… and very well maintained. Love the staff, friendly and always helpful, the hotel is very peaceful and the green surroundings are amazing!

Beautiful older building in a great location. The front staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating.

When we checked in, our first room smelled highly of cleaner, but when we told the front desk staff they immediately changed us to another room.

Building was an architectural gem with beautiful detailing and luxurious features. It was surrounded by lush gardens. Truely a place to unwind and relax all within a few minutes walk to the historic district.

The location.

I chose this hotel specifically for its green surroundings, as I enjoy the experience of looking out at nature through the balcony. Based on the photos, I booked a room with a balcony and views. Upon check-in, after a long journey, I used the bathroom, and my children immediately jumped on the beds. However, when I came out of the bathroom, I realised the room did not have the balcony shown in the booking photos.I went to reception to address the issue. The receptionist asked if I had already used the bathroom. I told her I had, and she replied that she would see what could be done to move me to another room. Time passed with no solution, so I approached her again, stating I needed the issue resolved quickly as I wanted to freshen up. She picked up the phone, and in front of me, supposedly called her manager, telling them I had not paid extra for the room and that they were standard rooms. I could hear her insinuating that I was lying, which made me very uncomfortable.When I asked for a solution, she rudely told me that if I didn't like the room, I could have my money refunded and go to another hotel. I was shocked by this attitude, especially since it was during Cali's Feria, and the hotels were fully booked. I was travelling with two elderly ladies, my husband, and two young children, so switching hotels wasn't a simple option.When I said I no longer wanted to speak to her because of her behaviour, she rudely responded that she didn’t like how I was speaking to her either. To avoid further conflict, I walked away, but I did file a complaint with Booking.com. Booking was incredibly understanding and compensated me for the bad experience. Surprisingly, the receptionist later came to apologise, but instead of taking responsibility, she blamed my supposed stress from travelling. Not wanting to ruin my trip further, I accepted her apology but remained very disappointed.

What a lovely family run place. Old nostalgia meets fantastic customer service. Wonderful breakfast and also a full restaurant. Gorgeous building and very secure. They took beautiful care of me for a week and I always felt like I was coming home.

I was very comfortable and happy @ the Hotel Stein-Colonial. The staff were wonderful, nice small poo and garden area. The hotel is old but very charming, and location for me was good. Easy taxi service to and from the hotel, the staff were very good at arranging laundry, ordering of taxis' and very kind and attentive. A good hotel to sit and chill at, and nice guests staying there to meet and chat to.

I would have liked softer and thinner pillows on the bed, the pillows were too puffy and hard for me, they did give me a thinner pillow, it was better but still hard. Despite this, I would stay there again, and bring my own pillow.

Room was a very good size, the balcony was also big, the beds were comfortable, the ceiling fan and a/c worked well, and the water pressure was very good. The staff was very friendly and responded to all of our requests. The breakfast was excellent and fast, the omelettes and arepas with cheese were especially good.

The room had no fridge or microwave, the toilet took forever to refill even though there was excellent water pressure. Twice during our stay the water was cut off with no advance notice. The housekeeping was basically “get it done as fast as possible” and could have been better.

Very well located. Friendly staff. Restaurant within the hotel with good food at reasonable price. Amazing place.

Room could be refreshed. Getting old.
