    Pros +

    • Bed was comfortable and large enough
    • Breakfast was good, and some of the staff were really nice and kind. Location is perfect.
    • Shower was incredible. The best part of the room.

    Cons -

    • Only one glass window so could easily hear all the noise from the streets even though we were on the highest floor.
    • The room smelled like mold, as if it was closed for many days without cleaning. The mattress was thin, no blankets. It was hot, but as I turned the AC on more bad smell came from it. It was really uncomfortable for the amount of money I spent. The staff who welcomed me was kind of sarcastic, and they didn't make me at ease enough for me to fell comfortable to complain about the room.
    • Bed was narrow, pillow was too small and soft. The air conditioning was VERY noisy. Extremely overpriced. The hotel announces they have safe box but they don't

I liked the location of Ibis Rio de Janeiro Botafogo. Its in the centre of Rio where attractions are easily accessbile. I got a high room with a fantastic window view of Cristo Rei.

I was looking for a place to get acclimated to Rio after my arrival that was safe, near some friendly restaurants and cafes, and close to a metro stop so that I could get into downtown and visit Pequena África. There a few options in Flamengo and Botafogo, and in the end, my familiarity with the Ibis chain in Europe and Africa led me to opt for this hotel. Good choice. As expected, it is modern and rather minimalist, with a clientele that skews a little (but not too) young. The room was comfortable, and the TV, AC, and bathroom stuff all worked fine. The staff was pleasant, and I liked the bar/waiting area off the reception. The best part was the location: a few steps from some great bakeries, cafes, restaurants, and a wonderful bookstore-cafe (Livraria da Travessa) on the way to the nearby Botafogo station (Lines 1 & 2). That whole area around Praça Nelson Mandela is jumping (safely) at all hours with outdoor eating and drinking places, markets, etc. Plus, the scenic beach, with its view of Sugarloaf, is only a couple of blocks away.

You don't get many surprises at an Ibis hotel, and in this case that was just fine: the surrounding neighborhood has enough interesting, quirky corners to satisfy anyone's interests. My one mini-gripe was that there was only one elevator working for guests, and it could take a while before it would show up. Also, because I didn't see the "Por favor, arrumar o quarto" door hanger on the shelf next to the phone and put it on the outside knob when leaving for the day, my room was not serviced.

We stayed 3 days prior and had no issues and were happy. Came back after visiting other parts and upon return they did not give me breakfast. They made a mistake in checking in and there was no breakfast. The front desk lady was very rude and did not allow me to speak to manager. We went out and had breakfast and enjoyed. Upon return spoke to manager who totally did not understand me

Nice location, close to restaurants and shopping streets and felt safe walking around in the neighbourhood.

    Too small room

    Location

Room was very humid and damp. Smelled a lot and couldn’t sleep comfortably without opening the window. Also the TV didn’t work.

    9NicolasPosted on: 3-12-2025

Location is great, staff is very nice and friendly and helpful, room is very clean, lots of breakfast options.

Issues with wifi (we were on the 9th floor). It was good enough since we weren't staying much inside but it went on and off.

    Good location and excellent breakfast!

The staff was disorganized—I booked 9 nights through the company rate and 1 night via Booking, but the experience was inconsistent. Despite hosting many foreign guests for Carnival, the staff’s English proficiency was extremely limited, making communication difficult. Housekeeping was unpredictable, sometimes done at noon, other times at 4 PM, and occasionally skipped altogether. Service at the bar was equally frustrating, with the bartender taking 30 minutes to prepare just two drinks. Overall, a disappointing experience.

    8VelosoPosted on: 3-10-2025

The comfort in the room, the breakfast, the reception staff.

Breakfast included omelet but they changed the policy due to full capacity and started charging R$ 38.

    7AlonsoPosted on: 3-5-2025

The hotel was fine just for a night in Rio but no more. Location is good tho.

The rooms are super small. It was carnival so the reception was overflowing with people. Some of the people in charge of check in were extremely slow and others were super fast. They are so overworked they can't do anything else if guests need something.

    I liked the location

The wifi didn't work for the whole evening/night, so I complained, and Wellington, the head of maintenance, verbally told me that I can get two free dinners as a token of apology from the hotel. The first night, I was able to redeem it, but the 2nd time I tried to do it, they made a whole fuss about it and did not allow me to have my 2nd free dinner. They treated me very poorly during the process

    Breakfast

No iron, tissues, hot water kettle etc in the room. Very weak internet, Upkeep of the room, smell in the corridors etc. Outdated property, needs updating.

    Nice location & nice breakfast

Very OLD interior - need complete renovation

    7JamesPosted on: 1-14-2025

Great location, friendly staff, rooms are decently large

The internet was very unreliable (on my 9th floor at least). The beds are hard and the pillows are thin.
