- A little dated in the décor, needs an update especially in the bedrooms. Maybe better coffee facilities or choice and toiletries. Overall the room was very tired. Staff were excellent very helpful
- We upgraded our room which was good
- The location is great right in the middle of the town. The bed was warm and the mattress wasn't hard. The comfortable lounge area where residents and non residents can sit and have a drink. The staff were happy to help with any questions. They were flexible when I changed a dinner reservation.
Cons -
- Needed up dating, very 80's you could tell it had been an excellent hotel in it's time
- We had paid for an upgrade and the shower and bath water was cold. We mentioned this when we checked out and all the answer i got was i will tell the maintenance. I told them that it didnt help us after having a cold shower.
- The phone in the room wasn't working. The TV kept going off on its own.

Had to stay there for a work event next day. The meeting room was fine but I noticed they no longer offer salad and coffee at lunch
The room was run down. Windows locked shut and no air con. No sockets near the bed and had to unplug the TV to use the fan I requested. Shower didn't have temperature control and was scalding. Bathroom light didn't turn off. Dinner menu was a three course option only. No drinks offered at dinner
Good breakfast, downhill from here
Rooms are like a timewarp to the 1980s and looking very tiredYou need a geography degree to find your way around the hotel. Its like crystal maze!
Very cleanGood food on the whole in the brasserieGood breakfast apart from the coffee
Room decor was tired and datedStaff very abrupt and not very friendly The menu offers “Welsh cheeses” as a dessert option. What arrived was Cheddar, Brie and Stilton. Definitely not Welsh! The coffee at breakfast was very poor quality from a water boiler. A hotel which advertises itself as 4 star should offer more than this. In one of our rooms there was little or no hot water. In the other room the temperature of the shower couldn’t be adjusted. The same room also had 7 steps down to the en-suite which we weren’t warned about to check that was acceptable.
I’m a regular guest here and it’s always great. There’s a great walk around a lake and a lakeside cafe just behind the hotel with a great playground for kids.
Friendly staff, comfortable beds, well appointed bathroom.
Public areas very very tired especially carpets which look dirty (probably a pale geay/green colour in reality) , sofa arms worn and heavily soiled. Not very dog friendly, dining with your pet is restricted to the lounge which hasn't suitable tables for dining at.
Loved it! Really enjoyed the ambience of the hotel. Appreciated the space in our (Luxury) room. Great food. Good and friendly service. Excellent machines in the gym. Really good spa. Yes, the furniture is a bit dated, as my wife mentioned more than once but the character, amenities, staff and food quality at the hotel more than made up for that in my view.

This is a typical old fashioned hotel which is very dated and probably was last decorated or had new carpet in 1974, the pool and sauna were nice but overall the whole place just felt incredibly dated
Super old fashioned very dated probably not decorated in 20 years the staff were nice but really to pay over £100pn for such a dated place is quite poor really
Grand historic hotel, nice pool, lovely staff, good food, great value.
Nothing to complain about.
Breakfast.... Brilliant!Bed............... Lumpy not too comfortable.Bathroom... Toilet flush, problematicBasic room. Okay(ish). Will come again. Premier room next time.Kind regards xx
The bed was lumpy. The room was basic, nice but a little too expensive.Premier rooms in the past..... Brilliant.
Good location and near to an event I needed to attend. The bonus was the gym.
Perhaps a healthier selection of buffet for breakfast eg Hard boiled eggs and some cottage cheese but that’s because I am a vegetarian. Good to see the veggy sausages however
Spa and breakfast were excellent. Furniture in the rooms is very dated.
Loved everything. Very clean and welcoming. Lounge area was fabulous for the evening.
Nice spa area . Lovely staff . Really hot jakuzzi
My friend was looking for a chicken on the menu . Was only salmon steak and lamb.
Breakfast was good. Good options and plenty to eat
Spa was disappointing. Steam room and sauna were not hot enough
Nice room, lovely breakfast. Good WiFi.
A couple of tiny things would make a massive difference: a hook on the back of the bathroom door to hang a bathrobe for example. In the swimming pool changing rooms the shower cubicles could benefit from a shelf or hook to store shower gel / shampoo, etc. Again a hook or place to hang a wet jacket in the bedroom would make such a difference.
Absolutely loved the spa, nice and relaxing. The food was absolutely stunning, all cooked to perfection and excellent quality produce, extra care given due to my allergies, really good portion sizes, great value for money. Rooms were very spacious, and the bed was so comfortable. Nice shower. The temperature was great. All staff were friendly
Staff were incredibly helpful. My mum is 92 and disabled. They swapped us to a room that had a level access shower and room for her wheelchair.Food was excellent..breakfast..fresh fruit and yoghurt..yummy
