    Pros +

    • the head concierge was so helpful.
    • The landscape and the view are breathless. Couldn't find a better place.
    • Stunning location and five-star service. The staff were so welcoming and informative. Although our room was not ready on time, we were provided a room to wait in the meantime and free drinks. I can’t rate their restaurant highly enough, delicious food and impeccable service.Upon our check-out we were also provided complimentary transport to the train station.

    Cons -

    • The hotel should have public onsen and a better gym, given the size of the hotel.
    • The beds are a little hard for my liking, but I’ve learnt this is quite normal in Japan. Could possibly be improved with a mattress topper for guests unaccustomed to the mattresses here.
    • Need provide onsen to every guest and low down their rate

The location is perfect with a view of the arashiyama river, staff were very welcoming and they treated us for our honeymoon with gifts and desserts

The bathroom toilet buttons were wiped off due to how old it is, poor water power,

It was absolutely beautiful! We especially loved the gardens. Being surrounded by beautiful trees was very restful. We really enjoyed the private bath in our room and took full advantage. The staff was very attentive, friendly and kind.

Peace and quiet. Scenery was amazing. Food was very good.

Trying to find breakfast in the morning away from the hotel which was expensive.

    9AnthonyPosted on: 9-27-2023

Beautiful location!! The walk from the train station to the hotel with luggage was a bit of a hassle, but it was totally worth it in the end. The room was spacious and had an amazing view! Plus, they had champagne hour from 5 pm to 7 pm, where we could go to the restaurant in the hotel, have a few drinks, and enjoy the view while having a few snacks as well. This place is 15 minutes from Arashiyama bamboo forest (walking).

The only thing I might not have liked was the fact that we were not told the onsen was extra. I had checked their website, but nowhere did it say we needed to make a reservation to have the private onsen. I thought it was going to be in the room when they said "private onsen". Now we know for next time.

    Incredible staff and location

No lounge to sit and chat and drink in comfy chairs etc

    9AlanPosted on: 9-24-2023

This is an exceptional hotel, well-located in a great section of Kyoto. The afternoon drink and snack by the river was most appreciated. Really attentive staff. We recommend a visit to the new museum next to the hotel.

It would be useful to have some western choices for dinner. The original room offered was unacceptable but the staff found an ideal room for us.

    10JosephPosted on: 5-23-2023

The staff and service were extremely friendly. The location was incredible; right next to the river, which was beautiful to wake up to every day.

    10SaraPosted on: 5-9-2023

The staff are very polite and helpful, best hotel service I've seen since I came to japan. The hotel is located in the best area where you have a view of the river from the cafe. You can go sightseeing in kyoto or to the bamboo forest with 10 mins on foot. You're also near a train station.

Adding microwave would improve the experience more.

big rooms, nice gardens, breakfast was good

need to pay extra for a hot bath, view if OK as the mountain is really close

    10KarenPosted on: 3-22-2023

A quiet and beautiful respite from the city. The garden and river views are lovely and the free champagne at the waterfront cafe after a long day of walking was greatly appreciated. The staff were welcoming and helpful every step of the way.

Would have liked to know that visits to the on site onsen require a reservation.

    10KaPosted on: 2-8-2023

they are so transitional architecture and good view. hot spring is so good. everyone should tried. it is worth of money.

    6UnknownPosted on: 11-8-2022

the staff were amazing. the facility was great. arashiyama is beautiful

way too expensive. meals are overpriced and I felt robbed by the cost of laundry. I paid the same price for a gorgeous hotel 36 floors above Tokyo station and some of their individual facilities and meals were half the price as suiran

    10LiPosted on: 11-7-2022

excellent experience!nice location, in a silent place but close to a popular street which has many snack shops.

    9WinstonPosted on: 4-2-2022

There is no better location in Arashiyama than Suiran. The afternoon tea on the outdoor balcony of Cafe Hassui is perhaps the most delightful pleasure of all Arashiyama. The lunch and/or breakfast at garden restaurant also make Suiran the most lavish onsen in Japan.

Perhaps needing a more casual lounge to relax or social since there is no sitting area in most rooms.

    10AaronPosted on: 12-27-2021

Really great location. The coffee shops, shopping areas and restaurants close to the hotel are amazing. Arashiyama is definitely a different part of Kyoto that I hadn’t experienced yet. The hotel bedroom was amazing. Some of the best sleep I’ve ever had at a hotel while traveling.
