Pros +
- This hotel is right next door to the railway station so very very handy. We thought there might be some train noise but there was no disturbance at all. The staff were helpful and there is an onsite restaurant where we ate on one of our nights. The food was good and saved us heading out in the rain. The samurai houses are an easy 15-20min walk away.
- - Fantastic location, literally attached to Kakunodate station. - Rooms are clean, quiet, and very comfortable.- Staff are kind and helpful- Onsite laundry is convenient.- The attached restaurant is a great option for tired travelers looking for dinner. - Breakfast is good
- Location is superb, right next to the train station yet not noisy at all from passing trains. Quite enjoyed watching the Shinkansen pass by from my window. Very comfortable stay with friendly staff.
Cons -
- - Walls between rooms are on the thin side
- Not "folk"--more of a business hotel, But that was OK.
- The beds were very hard and uncomfortable.

My wife and I were absolutely delighted with our spacious, comfortable room, excellent breakfast and lovely staff
A very pleasant and comfortable hotel next door to the local rail station. There is a nice restaurant in the hotel (one of the few places to eat in the area in the evening) and a convenience store at the station. It is an easy 20-minute walk to the 'samurai street'.
Perfect location (0.5seconds from the station), with a GREAT restaurant inside with local cuisine (we had dinner here), great breakfast (not huge, but with everything great, oishii onigiri), great staff and good sake. Spatious room, we even had a sofa inside of it!
Great location, easy enough to walk to the samurai district even in the snow and next door to the station. The staff were very friendly.
The beds were very hard and uncomfortable.
The hotel is right next to the train station, so super convenient. Convenience really matters when you arrive during a snow storm. Since there aren’t many restaurants near the hotel, I ate most of my meals there. Which wasn’t that much of a hardship. The meals were quite tasty and inexpensive.
My room was small and a bit dated.
Great location, right next to the train station. The attached restaurant also had some great food options.
While the location was next to the train station it is a bit of a walk to all the major attractions around Kakunodate
It’s literally next to the JR train station. Love that there’s coin operated washing machines, complimentary breakfast with a fairly good spread of food and staff were helpful and friendly. Room was clean too. All in all, great value for money.
This is (I think) a JR East hotel, and situated right next to the station, which is bit outside the main part of town 10-12 minutes walk to the nearest Lawson store. So this could be an ideal position for you, or not! No noise from trains, by the way. Staff were friendly, helpful, room was basic but comfortable and clean. There is a cafe attached to the hotel which is basic, but, again, clean, with reasonable food at a reasonable price. Think good railway cafe. Limited non-Japanese language skills, but plenty of help sheets, and helpful staff.
Nothing hotel related. It's a bit far from town, which is a bit lacking in evening eating places, which means you need to be aware the hotel cafe/restaurant last orders are 8:30.
Stayed extra night. All good. Well almost! Read below.
We understand that breakfast food cannot take away. So we followed the rules. Not even a small bun to bring back to the room. All good so far. But when my wife tried to refill her water bottle with plain water from the breakfast, this was disallowed. I think the hotel don’t have to be so rigid. Otherwise it’s a very pleasant stay.
Efficiently run hotel with comfortable room. Smooth fuss free check in. Quiet although near to train station

Close to train station, samurai house’s street and not far from large supermarket/shopping centre. New bathroom with good hot water pressure. Property also well maintained and clean

Wonderful location. Right next to the station, but the Shinkansen are so quiet we didn’t hear them. Easy walk to historical district. Good breakfast. Had dinner at the hotel restaurant one night and it had a good selection.

Wonderful hospitality! The staff treated us like family, they were so kind. Even with the language barrier, they booked us a shuttle to a popular hiking spot nearby. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was delicious and fresh.
I can't think of anything. We enjoyed our 1 night stay there.
Just right next to Kakunodate Station. Easier to visit Mt Kamogatake and the gorge. Breakfast is a simple variety of Japanese and Western selections of croissants and coffees.
Very basic. Hotel Room ok but rather warm. Air-con n heating are centrally controlled. Hotel has set it to heating this period. So the room feels warm. I was feeling very hot.
Excellent location. Delicious and healthy breakfast. Comfortable bedroom.
Nothing particular.
