Pros +
- It's a beautifully restored historic building, which felt elegant and cozy. All the staff were both kind and patient with my poor Spanish. It's a short walk from downtown Oñati, and a short drive from Arantzazu.
- Family ran business. Wonderful and friendly host. Beautiful design and comfortable amenities.
- Excellent dog friendly hotel and restaurant. Super friendly and informative lady at reception desk. Super comfy bed with dog bed and treats provided. Superb basque cuisine in the restaurant.
Cons -
- The opening and closing times for the restaurant aren't well signposted, we ended up missing breakfast one day. We were given free pastries through.
- Restaurant lights are too bright
- Noise! Not being able to relax or sleep. The walls floors and ceilings are paper thin, so you literally hear everything from adjoining rooms, phonecalls, normal level talking, toilet activity, footsteps etc etc. Never have we stopped in such a noisy room which has no soundproofing at all. If you cannot sleep or relax in a hotel then it becomes a waste of money and therefore I can only give it a very poor rating. I felt bad for the receptionist as she was helpful and polite but nice decor and friendly staff cannot make up for no sleep.

The staff were so friendly and were especially welcoming to my two dogs. They arranged for a room on a low floor, they provided two large beds for the dogs and also gave them a little gift to enjoy. It was a lovely touch. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds are very comfortable. There is a coffee and tea station downstairs that is open 24 hours with excellent nespresso machines. I wanted to leave early and so the man on reception arranged for a bag of breakfast treats that I ate on my journey. This place is officially my favourite Spanish hotel and I will aim to use it every time I follow that route.
Very spacious room, nicely decorated/styled

A beautiful old restored building finished superbly with fantastic large modern rooms and huge, comfortable beds. Great staff and bar/restaurant where the Basque food was very reasonably priced and excellent. Convenient free parking. Dogs (€15 per dog) and bikes also welcomed. Dog bed and treats supplied and secure store for my bikes. Can’t recommend enough. It was a great stopover for our trip to southern Spain.
Very welcoming staff and excellent dog stay. First hotel where really good bed was provided big enough for lab sized dog and high quality personalised dog treat box!
Great accommodation, lots of comfort detail, beautiful decoration, stylish furniture, excellent tasting menu in the restaurant. All is great!
No reading lamps in the bed.
The location was great, away from the city but close enough to visit easily. The styling and renovations are done extremely tastefully and parking is secure and convenient!I travelled with our dog and they prepared such a comfy bed I wouldn’t have minded sleeping in it, as well as a doggy surprise box! Way to go!
There is a factory right behind the hotel and I thought this might be noises but in the end it wasn’t. So not much to complain about really!
Everything was really nice. I never had such a soft bed. Very good hotel. A very pet friendly hotel, we had a dog bed in our room and dog cookies. This hotel gets 10/10
The walls are a bit thin, but thats oki.
Absolutely everything! The greeting from reception, the quality of the rooms, the food, the little details, the gifts for my dogs. It was all just a wonderful experience. I cannot wait to stay again with my two dogs on my way back from South of Spain to the UK
Love this hotel, perfect for us travelling with a dog. The setting is stunning, the building is lovely and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. There was even a gift for the dog and a loan of a comfy dog bed which really helped. Spacious room with everything we needed, beautifully designed with attention to detail. The restaurant is excellent with really good food and an area where you can take your dog while you eat. We’ve stayed twice now and love it here. Excellent place to break your journey if travelling from the UK down to the south of Spain.
Newly renovated, comfy beds, free coffee and lovely staff.
Beautiful setting, surrounded by green fields, pine trees, and vines. Lovely old building, restored with care and attention to detail. Interior decoration was very tasteful and chic. We ate in the bar as we had our dog with us, white table cloths, attentive service and good quality food. We didn’t want the breakfast buffet the next day as we don’t tend to eat a lot at breakfast, so opted for coffee and toast in the bar which was great. The hotel smells divine, we purchased the spray so that we can carry the memory forward.
Nice property had obviously been adapted with great attention to detail. The evening restaurant staff were exceptionally helpful
There was a drip from the skylight on my husbands head over a couple of hours so he had to squish in on my side of the bed ?
Room was well appointed and bed comfortable.Evening meal in adjoining restaurant was good.
The bathroom lacked any privacy within the suite. The sound proofing was awful, when the guests in the room above were moving around we heard every step which meant we could not sleep until they were in bed and we woke up every time they got out of bed .The breakfast was appalling. A very poor choice and the sliced cheese, meats and fruit were not covered hence the flies enjoying the food rather than paying guests. On our second morning the muesli container was empty and despite a polite request to replenish, it remained empty for the rest of our stay.
Spacious room, bed and bathroom - very comfortable, dinner was extremely good
Breakfast staff were a little indifferent but the quality of the breakfast was very good
Beautiful hotel, in a nice environment. Very comfortable room, nicely decorated and functional. Good breakfast and restaurant.
beautifully renovated;stylish;gorgeous large room with very comfy bed. lovely staff. bar next door lively and local, restaurant good. a surprise find.
nothing particularly.
Beautifully presented hotel. Everything was very clean and felt brand new, but with the character of the property maintained. Loved the extras like the coffee station and complementary water in the room. The owner was extremely helpful in replying to our questions. Fast Wifi, despite the thunder storms. Oñati is a fascinating town, is close to the Sanctuary of Arantzazu and would be a great base if you want to hike in the mountains.Nice to have a bar and restaurant on site. Good breakfast, and we liked the option to have something less lavish than the full buffet if desired. We ate twice at the restaurant and felt it was good value for money with a more interesting menu for that price level than most other places we encountered in the region.
We stayed in a standard room and the lighting in the evening could have been a bit more effective. An extra towel rail would have been good, too. However, when those are the only negatives, you know you have found a nearly perfect place to stay!
