Pros +

  • Quietness as in other building. Food support from camping facilities
  • We enjoyed walking the grounds and seeing the cows come down the mountain. The bartender/waitress was a delight. Very attentive, kind and helpful.
  • The location and the room's view was wonderful. The dinner at the hotel's restaurant was great.

Cons -

  • Wet floor below the toilette.
  • I made an error in saying 2 guests not 3, was charged for the additional guest which I suppose was ok. Odd since it didn’t require an additional room. But what I didn’t like is that the previously included breakfast was removed from our reservation and they charged for it. Not ok. I understand we should have had to pay for the third person, but we should be refunded for 2 breakfasts.
  • The breakfast wan not so special and did not meet our expectations. There was just limited options, for examples there was not different dishes in the warm buffet or different kind of cheese or sweats, ... .

Everything was absolutely amazing. The hotel was beautiful. The staff was wonderful. Beds were very comfortable, our view of the lake, it was breathtaking. I wish twita had more time to look around the hotel and at the ruins.

My husband and I stayed in the King Ludwig suite and we were amazed at the grandness of the room. it went far beyond our expectations, and it made us feel like royalty. Our friends had rented a different room in the castle but decided to move into our "suite" because it had both a separate bedroom and an additional bathroom. We stayed up late sitting around the kitchen table and enjoying wine and conversation. In the morning we brought coffee up into the room and enjoyed a leisurely morning before heading down to the wonderful breakfast. We learned that though King Ludwig had never actually stayed in that particular suite, empress Maria Theresa had. The room was lavish, and the bedding quite comfortable. We also enjoyed and appreciated all the chandeliers and lamps that we were able to light up in the room.

My only suggestion is that there could be better lighting in the bathroom. I believe it could be helped with a change of lightbulbs.

Amazing place between the Austrian alps in Tirol. Clean rooms, good kitchen and bathroom, very good Decoration stile 17-18 century

The Car acess is horrible and dangerous to park, direct from the road, cause me a very bad impression .The access to the rooms are pretty bad, by stairs, no elevator, nobody to help to carry the luggage

Poor

I booked a room and dinner in the nice dining room in advance and I did not get a table. Bad service and nonchalant. Do not book a room here.

Right on our hiking route! Great atmosphere in the dining room. Too bad about the smoking on the outside dining patio ..... but that is true of all of Austria.

Our suite was further from the main building than I thought, which was fine with us, but might not be to everyone's taste. The boats, while free, were in pretty disgraceful shape.

Perfect place for hotel. Beautiful nature and waterfall. The staff was very friendly . The room was lovely . Dinner was delicious and breakfast was so many choices.

We stayed in the actual castle, must read carefully as many folks think they are making A reservation in the castle, but end up in the hotel. We booked King Ludwig II room, and its was magnificent! It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a small kitchen, huge living room. Period furniture and decor. Allows one to experience what it was like to live in a castle. Little musty which was fine.Private lake with beach magnificent

Breakfast buffet was exceptional. We also had dinner, goulash was excellent but my Pork tenderloin medallions were like hockey pucks.

Very clean room.

1.Book with instructions did not fit the room.2.Magnetic card provided for acces to "guest only" places did not work.3.Ventillator mentioned in the welcome book, was inexistant.4.When arrived to the restaurant, we were immediately told that there was no place without any question of who we were or what we would like.. Once we informed them that we were hotel guests they offered us a table right away.5. The wifi proposed by the welcome book was inexistant.6. Once asked for the sauna utilisation, we were told that it was out of order.7.Only one wood door separated our room from next room with all the noise that implies.8. And others.... well it wasnt a good experience.

The hotel is next to old Castle and next to charming small lake. The view from the hotel room toward to lake is awesome and leave us speechless. The food in the restaurant (we ate diner only) was very good.the room is great including an A/C and good shower. It was such a great surprise (we have ordered it only a day before arrival as our flight has postponed by one day) to stay at such charming place for very decent price! Even the use of the paddle boats in the lake is free of charge for the hotel guest.:)

Couldn't find anything that we did not like

10BryanPosted on: 8-12-2024

The hotel offered access to the Fernsteinsee boats, and the kids liked that they were staying in a castle. The dinner was amazing, too.

The breakfast options were a little limited, but it was still satisfying.

location .. close to a lake

terrible hotel... bed full of bugs,... old... breakfast if you want was 17 euros per person which is over priced. Hard to park and offload you luggage. just an old hotel with statues all around in a choitic manner. I will never recommend it.

9HelenPosted on: 7-14-2024

Historic setting, comfortable beds, very quiet. free use of rowing boat on lake all very good

No kettle (we English like boiling water for our tea!)

7TraceyPosted on: 7-14-2024

Staff were really nice.

No tea or coffee making facilities in the room. From the literature I thought the hotel was in the castle but it wasn’t and we were not allowed in the castle. I felt a little cheated.

Location is AMAZING. we drove from Bologna to Hamburg and opted to stay here as we drove through on a previous trip.

Our waiter at dinner fluffed up our order and bill TWICE. Overcharged (double charged) for the wine and brought the wrong dessert. Corrected the bill and then tried to charge us for the same wine again. Then the brand new air conditioning unit in the room crapped out at 1 am. Could not get anyone to answer the phone given the time and when we did speak to the man at reception after a horrible bed and little sleep and the old feller just said “that’s bad” and obviously the can do nothing. It’s for the technician.

A superb choice at breakfast for a wide variety of tastes and diets. The restaurant is spectacular and the waiter service professional, attentive and impeccable. Your every need is catered for. Every table is well laid out and feels upmarket. There is so much to look at in this Schloss hotel, every piece of wall space, corridor space, in fact everywhere is filled with amazing artefacts from a bygone age. We felt it quirky but beguiling. Can totally understand why King Ludwig loved the place.

We didn’t get chance to explore the grounds and lake because for one full day it poured with rain so sat in the lovely forelle room and played cards and read all day. As senior citizens we found the size of the portions for evening meal to be too big and overwhelming. We asked for smaller portions, which was accommodated with alacrity but even so we could not do justice to the lovely food on the plate. I do wish hotels in Austria would produce a senior citizens portion. Appetites lesson as you get older. I am sure even much younger people would be challenged by the portion size. It’s not meant as a criticism, but as a suggestion. And, it’s not just this hotel where we found this happening. There’s very little not to like about this very popular hotel which is so full of history.

You go on a vacation with the purpose of making memories. This hotel made memories. The setting of the hotel is stunning, in the mountains next to a pristine lake. The decor instantly pulls you into the feeling you are in a cozy castle. We walked down to the lake and ran into the cows coming back from the pasture, bells around their necks clanging. Those cows would provide the milk for the best ice cream we have ever eaten. In fact most of what we ate at the hotel was fresh from the grounds. Memories made. We ate dinner at the same reserved table each night and had an amazing waiter, Tibor. Tibor engaged us, got to know us, and really took care of us. He was both professional and personable and great with our kids. Tibor made memories for us. One day we spent the afternoon at the lake. We took a boat over to the island in the lake, climbed up a steep hill and found ruins of an old castle which we explored. My son said that was his favorite day of a 9 day trip to Bavaria and Tirol. That day made memories. The location is great - just far enough away from everything, but still close to the Zugspitze, the castles near Fussen, Germany, and the coolest alpine coaster on the planet in charming Imst. Stay here and make memories.

The road by the hotel gets busy during the day. At night it is quiet.
