About

The Château de Cocove is located in Recques-sur-Hem, 12 mi from the Calais coast. Beautifully restored, this 18th century chateau is set in magnificent wooded park land within the proximity of the port of Calais and the Channel tunnel. The uniquely-decorated rooms at Château De Cocove have carpeted or parquet flooring. Some have a view of the park or the gardens and some have access to shared toilet facilities. A great first stop in France. It offers authentic comfort and charm, with an excellent restaurant and choice of wines from the wine-shop in its cellars.

    Pros +

    • Beautiful setting and building.
    • Great location and delicious evening meal.
    • food was excellent , but the interior of the hotel , with the exception of entrance , lounge and bar , had been reduced to premier inn standards.

    Cons -

    • No A/C. Like all of Europe, no screens on the windows. Lots of mosquitos and other bugs.
    • Bed was hard.
    • The conversion of the bedrooms being reduced to small " premier inn " standards. The grounds to the rear of the Chareau were unkept.

Comfort and the resturant was excellent

Low on staff, but they worked very hard

I loved the location and the grounds

I was upset to be given pâté de food gras on our set menu-it is the cruellest to the geese that are force fed several times a day so their livers enlarge and pop-I would never have ordered that so dont want to be offered it as part of a set menu-just because it’s a tradition doesn’t mean it’s right

Beautiful hotel inside and out. The grounds are stunning and the rooms are very comfortable. Fantastic food in the restaurant too.

    There’s nothing to dislike.

Excellent stop at the end of a long trip around Europe. Close to Le Shuttle. Lovely food and good facilities, nice big room.

This was the second time staying here. Very convenient from Calais (about 40 mins) and nice quiet country location. Grounds were beautiful. Parking was easy. The restaurant was very good and not too expensive. We had a nice room on the ground floor with a comfortable bed and a good sized bathroom. We would definitely stay here again! The area around the hotel looked really interesting and would like to explore next time.

We paid for our stay in the evening before we left (we left at 7.15am) and explained that we would not need breakfast. We were told that staff came in at 6.30am and would give us coffee and a croissant to take with us, so we said that would be great, thanks! However, when we came to check out, there was no-one about, the gates to reception and restaurant area were all locked! Left the keys hanging on the gates! Not a major disaster and we would stay again.

    Area and house

Restaurant and no snails, frogs legs or onion soup

    Location and excellent cuisine.

Shower over the bath, not much elbow room. Temperature hard to control.

The chateau and location is super

The welcome received was poor. We were shown to the room and no explanation just there is your room. Reception was poor. Dinner was good in terms of the food and the service was fine, but nothing special. Breakfast was appalling. The buffet had not been refreshed so was lacking orange juice, scrabbled eggs, yoghurt etc. The waitress was not interested and very obviously did not want to be there. The room was okay, but nothing special. At the cost it was not value for money.

Been many times always good that’s why I come back, great location for the Eurotunnel

They need to put the Cockerel on the menu because whether you like it or not, you’re getting up at 5:30

Lovely to be able to get a drink from the bar with our late arrival. Staff were friendly and breakfast excellent.

Nothing - it was all very good

Very friendly staff. Excellent food . Beautiful rooms

Would like paper menus rather than a QR code

The food was absolutely fantastic. Fabulous chef.

The internet was barely there in our room but was stronger in the common areas.

Lovely quiet setting whilst close to the autoroute. Ideal spot to break the journey. They allow dogs and have a large outside secure fenced outside space

    7NickPosted on: 4-1-2025

Had to change rooms as initially the room was too small but ungraded to a super room

A humming noise coming from next door all night and nobody on reception to help

    9SusanPosted on: 3-29-2025

The staff were exemplary, polite attentive efficient.

    9PeterPosted on: 3-27-2025

Old but nicely styled and renovated. Convenient for the channel and quietly off the beaten track. Excellent restaurant with exceptional food.
