    Pros +

    • Breakfast was good and the rooms were good size
    • The hotel's location is central. You can easily walk to restaurants, shops, tourist office, sites in the old city, and to the train station. The Fachwerk (half-timber) of the hotel and the houses of the old city was magical. The room was very spacious, cozy, homey, and airy, with lots of sunlight, and the breakfast was generous. (I would suggest that the hotel staff serve breakfast as a buffet so that guests can choose what and how much they want rather than providing a set breakfast. This option would avoid waste.) There is also a shop (Kiosk) across the street that was open until midnight so it was easy to make small purchases. This family-owned hotel also has a Greek restaurant. The location of the hotel is absolutely beautiful. I felt very much at home there.
    • Nice room in historic building up a hill from the center of town. Owners were most accommodating. Good Greek restaurant on site. Good breakfast. Safe bike storage.

    Cons -

    • No parking at the hotel We had to wait for someone to let us in even so it says that you can check in any time after 12:00 Restaurant hours are wrong on the website and in the hotel. No lunch
    • There were some problems with the water temperature in the shower, which did not always remain consistently hot and which, on one morning, took a very long time to get hot. I think the owners should attend to this as well as to the water pressure in the toilet. These issues can easily be fixed.
    • Kettle / coffee maker in room.

It was a beautiful room, I loved the upstairs bathroom with a separate shower and gigantic tub, right in the heart of the city with a wonderful view

The breakfast was amazing!! Ensure you pre-book the breakfast each day when you arrive as it is provided to order only. Amazing neighbourhood and very close to all amenities. Walkable from train station which is a bonus! I would definitely book here again. For the money, it can’t be beaten. I’ll be back. Only down side was my room was annexed from the rest of my party and intermittent smell of weed coming from a neighbouring room :-(

Kettle / coffee maker in room.

    - the staff were kind and friendly- I tried the food in their Restaurant and it was really authentic Greek food… perfect and price for the food was fair.- the Whirlpool helped me relaxed after a tiring day.

    - I am not sure but they don’t arrange the bed , what you left during the morning will stay as it is. but they change clean fresh towels everyday.

Good location. Charming hotel. Clean. Housekeeper was very nice.

Steep stairs which made it tough with luggage. We stayed in the attic and kept hitting my head on ceilings. No shower, only bathtub with a spray hose. Universal key for all doors? Thin and scratchy bath towels. Mattresses were very firm and uncomfortable after a night’s sleep. No one at hotel spoke English and staff was non-existent except for the one housekeeper.

The location of this little gem can't be beat. They were able to give us a large suite with a separate bedroom for our children and an enormous bathroom (with tub). Food in the restaurant was delicious, and the ambience in this historic building was fantastic. Easy to walk to shops, other restaurants, the Marienkirche (with 1000 yr old tapestries!) and the ruins of the imperial palace. Also, only about 30-40 minutes from the Frankfurt airport (or 20 if your driver loves going fast on the Autobahn like ours did).

So...if you don't speak German you'll have a difficult time here. At the hotel, I had to dig into my college German to communicate with the staff. We got by, but my husband and children who know nothing of the language were completely dependent upon me. The people working in the hotel were very friendly and did their best to communicate with gestures--and it worked. We had a lovely stay. Also, there is no Uber here so arrange for transport back to the airport before you get here. And also remember this place is old, and old fashioned. You'll be given a key to open the big heavy doors to get into and out of the hotel during non-restaurant hours. It's not to say we didn't like this--the charm was amazing with this place!

It is is pretty old building but it is very well maintained and in very good shape. If you are up for adventure to be in pretty old building then you'll love the place. Room was spacious and comfortable, and pretty clean.

No one was there early in the hotel. Literally I was told to be there at specific time and only 15 mins before that time someone came in to open the door of the hotel.

The property is located right in the heart of Gelnhausen old town in a half-timbered historical building, which serves also as restaurant / pub. The smell and atmosphere is typical of a nice tavern and you would feel immediately in the medieval Germany. Wooden beams are featured in the building’s walls. Our room had a nice view of the old town, moreover it was spacious and comfortable, ideally for a family of 4.Breakfast was good and plenty. The staff was super friendly.

Check-in on certain days cannot be done later than 18:00 but you WILL BE ADISED by the host. This means that if you’ve planned to visit someplace else before checking in, it is a big limit or at least it was for us.The parking lot is not at or in the building as I initially thought but it’s is a separated, open parking space c.ca 300 meters away, slightly outside the old town. Note that you’ll still be able to park at the building for loading/unloading operations. Since it is located in an open space, still belonging to the property, I didn’t feel secure leaving valuables in the car as I initially planned. Being an historical building there is no lift and the stairs are steep, hence I had to carry this luggage up to our room, including our newborn stuff. Since we’re young and strong it isn’t an issue but I reckon it might be for someone so, “be aware” :-)

Beautifully restored and clean 500+ year old building provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The staff was A+++. We enjoyed dinner in the very comfortable Biergarten. Definitely recommended.
