About

The 4-star Hotel Piccolo Mondo is set on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea to reach all the hotel facilities and the rooms is necessary to walk several stair cases. It is in Castro, 0.6 mi from the town’s center. The terrace, most rooms, and the outdoor seawater pool offer views of the sea. Rooms are uniquely decorated and offer a patio or a terrace. Each is air conditioned, and features a TV and a private bathroom, with a hairdryer and toiletries. At the hotel’s restaurant you can enjoy a varied continental breakfast. Mediterranean and international cuisines, plus Puglia specialties are served on its sea-view terrace. The property also provides a tennis court, free parking, and free Wi-Fi in public areas. A private stairway of 193 steps leads directly to the sea. Just 2297 feet from the SP358 state road, Piccolo Mondo Hotel is around a 30-minute drive from the beautiful seaside resorts of Otranto and Leuca.

    Cons -

    • We had two rooms—one was very small and dark, while the other was fantastic. The AC worked well, which made a big difference. The hotel could use a bit of sprucing up, and the grounds would benefit from better maintenance, especially around the tennis courts and walkways.
    • The rooms need an update and air conditioning in all roomsMirrors on hill for drive down to rooms would be helpful
    • Room basic hard bed and needed painting and maintenance on plumbing

Hotel Piccolo Mondo is a hidden gem in South Puglia! As a frequent luxury traveler, I was impressed by the exceptional customer service and value for money. The hotel offers top-notch amenities, including a stunning pool, tennis courts, and a private creek. Our included breakfast was a delight, and early check-in and check-out made our stay seamless. Plus, it's conveniently close to iconic beaches on both the Ionian and Adriatic seas. The attentive staff truly goes above and beyond, remembering every detail to make your stay unforgettable.

Beautiful location on the sea with the cliffs. Stunning pool overlooking the ocean ?

Room is slightly dated and bed a bit worn but all in all good ?

    10ElliePosted on: 8-24-2024

The pool was magic. The terrace we ate on for breakfast had views of the ocean. Overall feel was relaxing and clean with real vacation vibes.

It is very spread out and steep, you need to be able to walk comfortably. The lunch at the pool was delicious but it could be a long wait for food.

great location (the best one on the whole penisula). With access to the sea despite 50 m high cliff.

Beautiful hotel with an amazing salt water pool Breathtaking views and lovely staff

Gorgeous location and views. Pool area is so lovely!

Rooms are quite dated. Shower either too hot or too cold. The worst part was the sewage smell in the bathroom. It made me nauseous and I could barely spend time there. Tiles on floor of breakfast area very dirty.

Beautiful area, very friendly staff, great breakfast and amazing view.

We wish the 2nd room would have had an air-conditioning too. It was so hot that our children had to sleep on mattresses in the main room.

Lots of highlights staying at Hotel Piccolo Mondo. The views from the property were breathtaking, the breakfast was wonderful and the staff was accommodating. The pool is also very cute! We went to Piscina Zinzulusa (a recommendation from a friend) and ended up returning to the hotel pool early because it's more special. The hotel's private beach is also a true gem.

Beautiful property on the cliff. Big property, lots of steps and walking up and down, great for young people, perhaps not that much for oder folks. Very friendly staff. With little work and investment would be a luxury stay.

The views from everywhere in the hotel are stunning. The pool was huge with fresh sea water, beautiful.

we were there during the last week before the hotel closed for the year. some of the facilities like pool bar and restaurant weren’t available.

    4CatherinePosted on: 10-8-2023

the views from the location are outstanding and it is very peaceful.

The hotel facilities were closed and we were not informed until we arrived..No bars, restaurant or snack bar open. no yoga classes etcWhen we said "this is a like a B&B and not a hotel" , the owners pretty much ignored us. We were not offered any compensation and we were disappointed we did not get what we paid for .

Beautiful location, pool, view. Very serene. Amazing breakfast!!

Pool staff was neutral to borderline unkind. Made us feel like it was a burden to order food and drink. Also rooms are very standard - nothing special. Was significantly overpriced, but we were there during Ferragosto.

    7WendyPosted on: 10-2-2023

Hotel rooms were basic but had a certain charm and were clean and comfortable. Hotel location beautiful with great views and the pool area and bar were fabulous. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The restaurant's menu was very limited, and as we had half board, we got bored with it by the end of the week. Staff were lovely but service was pretty slow even though the hotel was not at all busy. I'd hate to be there in high season. Breakfast was the same every day and also could have been a bit more interesting.

After much travelling we wanted just to chill out for a few days and this was a great place to do just that. It’s a huge sprawling cliff top property with the most amazing views and a lovely pool area. There’s an outdoor cinema area, a tennis court, a bocce area, a little stone chapel and hundreds of steps down to the sea. The staff were very friendly too. A special shout out to Alessandra!

The property was a little rundown but if it was updated it would probably be 6 star and totally unaffordable! The furniture in the rooms are bit basic but it was clean and everything worked, so no complaints. Just be aware that there are hundreds of stone stairs on the property and, in fact, all over Castro and not many handrails anywhere, so not suited to the less mobile.

We loved the pool , there were always sun loungers available. The view is absolutely incredible. The staff are lovely , it felt very homely and sweet. The common areas were always clean and understatedly chic. It’s an old property that has a few cracks and imperfections but it has truly kept it’s 70s Italian charm which is hard to come by.

It’s on an incline , and no lifts , so it’s not good to a family with a pramFor example. Our daughter was is 6 and it was all manageable.
