    • I stayed at this resort for 10 days, solo traveling. The staff were hyper accommodating, kind and helpful. Javi is the man - he runs the bar, works his butt off and is always a welcomed smile to start or end your day. The manager was helpful when I asked change rooms and book an extra night. Cleaning staff did a great job. There are a lot of locals that visit the bar as a watering hole at night you can tell them and the staff are like family. On Christmas day I arrived in my room to a little packet of cookies and treats - so thoughtful and kind. This is anything but a cold corporate chain. If you dive this is the PERFECT spot to stay at, its a 7 minute walk on the 'beach' to Belize Pro Dive Center (Which is at the dock at the Alia hotel). Super convenient. Free breakfast and coffee was also great every morning.
    • Beach front walks. Secret beach. Diving.
    • The staff was great and very inviting, they engaged with us every time we were around them. Helped guide us to restaurants and existing excursions. They were all great and the food at the resort hit the spot!

    Cons -

    • The rooms on the base floor have no privacy from passerbys at the pool or bar level (which forces you to close the curtains at all times). It can feel claustrophobic and luckily the manager was able to move me to an upper floor for a couple days which had a beautiful patio. He is looking into some creative solutions. Recommend only booking upper floors - nicer bathrooms too. Also bear in mind - beach access is not what you think it is; the island is doing construction so the 'beach' access is a concrete/sanded embarcadero but this is typical to most of San Pedro. I didnt come across a single sandy beach other than at Secret Beach (which still isnt typical sandy access, and is a 45 min away golf cart ride).
    • Snorkeling by Ramons.
    • -The most disappointing part of our stay was the Sargassum algae bloom that collected on the waterfront making it an eyesore and smelling the air like rotten eggs.-The facility looked worn and used. A fresh coat of paint, especially around the pool area, would make it look much more appealing.-We only had two spoons for 3 occupants.-There were no cutting knives to help prepare food. We requested a cutting knife but no one gave us one.

We liked the A/C, which was quite strong and the view. Overlooking the pool, bar area and the ocean was quite pleasant. The staff were nice.

Property was nicely kept. The bar/restaurant was fantastic. Staff were very friendly and wonderful.

Room 15–Very small for 2 guests comfortably. The curtains and wall hanging looked like they needed either cleaned or replaced. Pool wasn’t very clean, no fault of the pool keeper. He didn’t seem to have proper equipment. Our BIGGEST dislike was the local pickleball players who met every day at 8am like clock work. Paying guests should not have to endure the noise!

    10KarlaPosted on: 3-2-2025

Good location, great beach bar, pickle ball courts, friendly, accommodating staff. Loved the pop up taco stand across the street.

Rooms needs some attention to small details (water pressure is low and takes a while to heat up), pool is small, sea wall needs repair. However, while we were there they were surveying it for repair.

    8RebeccaPosted on: 2-21-2025

Friendly staff, great recommendations, clean facility, Javier, Myrna & Brian were all great. Location was just south of town - a short golf cart ride.

Bar/Kitchen out of many items pretty much every day - not the end of the world though! Would have been nice to have some lounge chairs around the pool - they were all on the beach. I'm sure I could have asked staff to help me move one - they were all very friendly and accommodating!

I did not like this location.

Everything. It was not what the pictures showed. The room I had the air didn’t work things looked as if it was falling apart. The hot water didn’t get hot.

    Close to ocean. Small pool

Very limited menu and what they did have they ran out of those foods

    5ZacieaPosted on: 8-15-2024

It was a reasonable place to stay

The pictures made the place look much more valuable than it was. The room has rust in the room, very old property

    2LisaPosted on: 6-25-2024

The room rates were inexpensive (for a reason) and we could walk to a taco stand and a couple other stores (but nothing else). The bed was super comfortable.

Water pressure extremely low & didn’t work at all for more than a day. Kitchen is advertised but there was only 1 pot available for cooking…no skillet, no mixing bowls, no sharp knife, no microwave. Do not expect to cook if you stay here. The pool had green algae on the side that didn’t get sun. Our TV did not work for our first 3 nights despite attempts by staff. Wi-Fi was very weak and spotty. Beach towels were available but in need of replacement. Lots of minor repairs should be made. Had to use our entire strength to slide the sliding glass door open. Local resident school children and parents used the pool one of the nights we were there. They were polite but not the setting we were hoping for our 30th wedding anniversary. Many hotels/resorts cleaned up the sargassum & debris from the ocean; not this resort.

I loved our view and all of the helpful staff.

Our microwave didn't work and there's no phone in the room to contact the front desk if needed. The microwave was replaced very quickly after we made staff aware of the issue.

    Good breakfast good location.

My arrival to Belize was after the ferry closed and the air flights from Belize to San Pedro was closed also. So I had to stay overnight in Belize at the Best Western Hotel. I had reservations at the Mata Rock Resort from Monday to Friday. I was charged for Monday even though I was not able to check in till Tuesday. That was a large disappointment for me to pay for a day that was not a stay and out of my control and the Resort had a big vacancy during that week.

    The staff was super nice!

The bed was too small. My husband is 6'2 and couldn't fully fit.

    8RobPosted on: 4-22-2024

Fabulous location and great value for money. The Staff were amazing.

It was a little tired but for the price, amazing. The property has just been sold and the Restaurant ran out of essentials but there are so many gear choices for eating this was not a big problem. The wonderful staff, more than made up for the owners.

    5KathleenPosted on: 4-22-2024

Location was okay because we had a golf cart. Staff were GREAT! Especially Derell. Lounge chairs on beach were very comfortable. Bed was comfortable and clean. Pickle ball courts looked fun although we didn't play. Nice welcome drink!

Property needs some serious updating and repair. Could not open our balcony door due to rust in metal tracking. No hooks or hanging areas anywhere for wet swim suits. Very inconvenient. Not sure what they expect you to do. Floors are wood. Property appears to have issues with plumbing. Strong sewage oder out our door.

The initial atmosphere and ambiance was welcoming and beautiful. We were greeted by Dorell at the front desk and he was incredibly helpful and kind. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The dining/bar and pool area was perfect. Our room was clean and welcoming. I particularly enjoyed the flower petals left on our bed. Room service daily was great! Staff was accommodating and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. Food and drinks were great. I recommend the Mexican cocktail, its delicious. Hotel offers complimentary paddle boards and kayaks. We used to Kayaks and it was amazing. This hotel offers the perfect balance of relaxation and luxury.

A recommendation would be to offer a little more communication prior to check-in.

    6EmmaPosted on: 4-9-2024

Dorel and the team were superb. The location was excellent, right on the beach, quiet side of town but with lovely bars, restaurant and the best bakery for snacks and coffee. Small pool, pickleball courts, bikes and kayaks to use when you need it.

One challenge was lack of WiFi in the room. I’d like me you’re reliant on WiFi for work or personal use then this is tough as the only option is to sit at the bar to get wifi.

Feels like a family. Staff are very close and get to know each person staying at the property and are very friendly and welcoming. The pool and beach are are wonderful and the room was lovely with an ocean view. Javier, the bartender makes exceptional drinks and is very professional, in a fun and welcoming way. The staff all around, in all positions, work as a team, and ensure guests have the best stay. And we certainly did. We feel like we made friends for a lifetime at this hotel and are already planning our next stay at Mata Rocks. We loved that bikes, paddle boards, kayaks and pickle ball courts are available and included in the stay. As well, they have paid and fast laundry service too. The chefs make the best food! I highly recommend eating at the hotel, or eating at the inexpensive taco stand across from the hotel after 6pm…so good! We can’t wait to go back and stay at this property! The locals at nearby apartments and hotels all flock to this property for the great and genuine vibes. The atmosphere is intoxicating and so welcoming.

Hearing the pickle ball courts and people playing early in the mornings, would be the only negative if your room is situated near it. Wifi does not work in the rooms, but the signal is stronger outside of the rooms and the restaurant/bar and on the balcony.

Staff was great. They were very helpful and outgoing

We understand that the property is up for sale. Evidently, the owners are not wanting to spend any expenditures on repairing items. The cable equipment wasn't working. The cable box was replaced, but Evidently, there was something wrong with the replacement. There was something wrong with the blinds on one of the entry windows. A curtain or a shower curtain was hung over the window. What looked like a smoke detector bracket was missing the smoke detector. The 3 table stools are very unsafe and only have 3 legs on them. They are top heavy, which makes them unsafe to sit on them. We had a staff member bring us some chairs to sit on.
