Pros +
- The hotel was older property and one that had survived WWII. It was very clean, neat and the room was comfortable. The breakfast was good but the general public facilities were small and there was only a drop box to receive the key and no receptionist. The woman who organized breakfast arranged for a taxi to the rail station. The price was very reasonable and I was very comfortable.
- Good location down by the docks and convenient to have parking on site. Friendly welcome and comfortable room.
- Great location, harbor front, close to tram stop. Right near the old town walking plaza. Restaurants across the street.
Cons -
- The location is a little "out of the way" in regard to the city center but very close to Zur Kogge, an excellent tavern/restaurant that is recommended for dinner.
- Steep staircase to the second floor - not easy with luggage. 'Altes' means 'no lift'!
- The soap in the bathroom! It was weirdly blue and smelled of perfume/chemicals, and I would have liked a more neutral one without so many chemicals.

Staff was very down to earth, friendly and very nice. Breakfast was nice, and it was lovely that we had a table reserved every morning. Placement of Hotel was excellent.

Very friendly staff
Location. Near the mainstreet, but the windows kept a lot of sounds outside
The location is excellent, 5 minutes from the harbour and 10 Minutes from the city center, walking distance. The place is cosy. The bed was very comfortable and WiFi worked well. Even if there is a noisy street close by, if you close the window it does not bother at all.
The room was clean but only the important and visible parts. Saw some cobwebs in the lamp and dust on the cupboard. The facilities were a bit scarce in the room, e.g. found only one wall socket.
Good location, excellent breakfast, spacious room
The breakfast was very good! Big variety of different food
The room on the roof where I stayed was a bit unconvenient for my body lenght
It was local to the harbour area which had good restaurants. It was also In walking distance to Rostock town which we visited the staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking also cost extra.
The rooms were a bit small and the pillows, which was not just this hotel, were not worth using as we used to better pillows. It was expensive for the facilities. Breakfast was nice but a little expensive for 15 euros each per day. No kettle I’m room which would have been welcome.
I had a wonderful view of the waterfront and the proximity to the center of the city with its historic buildings was perfect.
No fault of Hotel Altes Hafenhaus...the comfort of the room was fine but not FABULOUS because it was very small which I knew when booking and the man who welcomed me also said it was the smallest room. As I was there basically for a shower and to sleep, it was perfect because I LOVED the view and being in such an old, beautiful property.
Very good breakfast, very helpful and kind personnel, good recommendations
Harder pillows recommended
Location. Close to old city centre. We got the room key when we arrived at 23:00 (reception was closed)
Too costly for a family room. There was no elevator.! Had to carry the heavy suitcases three floor up.
Great location, clean room, good breakfast.
Attic room has low ceiling, okay for 1 night. Although it was high season, our stay was a bit pricey.
Excellent location with private parking. Extremely helpful menager. Excellent and varied breakfast.
The third bed in the room had a too soft mattress.
A wonderful old house with its own feeling. We had a nice chat with the man in the reception during our breafast (which was very tasty and fresh). After seeing the Marienkirch with it’s astronomical clock we left Rostock with a lovely mind.
We were satisfied with our stay
Very friendly staff, good breakfast and super coffee. Irecomend it for a few nights. And lication is super.
