    Pros +

    • the food was very good and the staff very helpful and friendly
    • It was our second time, and we LOVE Kwa Maritane. The guides are incredible-they are a treat and the game drives and boma dinners are an amazing experience. Especially for the kids. Great rooms and facilities, more than enough to keep everyone entertained.
    • Breakfast and dinner was exceptional, bush braai was really good, entertainment was excellent!

    Cons -

    • the property is advertised as being wheelchair accessible, but the only places I could go were my room and the main dining area, I could not enjoy the facilities like the watering hole view from the tables closest, I couldn't use the spa as the treatments rooms are up stairs, even though ramps have been added they are sweep and the path not very uneven so it feels unsafe to use the paths, had to use the road with the cars instead. The dining room was also difficult as you can't get to the dishes and have to be served
    • Upon our previous visit we reviewed the same - the restaurant service and staff is really not up to scratch for a 4 star lodge that also showcase South African hospitality. The staff is not friendly, and their knowledge is extremely lacking. The lunch service is slow, and the 2 couples sitting around us also had to complain about the food taking up to 1.25 hours. (And the restaurant was dead quiet except for the 3 tables.)We waited more than an hour for 1 soup and 2 toasted cheese sandwiches. Management seemed inconvenienced by our raised concern. Also, the reservations department was very confused and paying for my booking was an extremely difficult task.
    • The gate into the park was closed which meant we had to do a 15 minute drive on to the bakubumg gate and had to pay there to enter the park. This was very disappointing and was not communicated before or during the stay. Breakfast and dinner was included but at breakfast we had to pay to have a glass of water as no sugar free drink option was available. At dinner there were no non-alcoholic options.

The location and setting was lovely, food great on the first night and partly friendly staff. Family friendly game drives.

Many of the the service staff lack friendliness to the point of borderline rude, assisting with such disdain and being dismissive when serving us at the buffet and waffle station. This really ruined the experience as a collective. The food was very average on the 2nd night and raising negative attention to management just gets brushed off, if heard at all. The Hollanders we befriended shared a similar experience as they expected better hospitality. Thabang was great and tried to remedy our negative experience! Game drives were pleasant but vehicles needing TLC!! The rooms are tired and the executive family rooms have no sound proof as u hear your neighbours cough and pee.Loud music was heard with chanting after 9 from the small boma when all we really wanted was the night sounds of the bush break Really not value for money!! Basic wines and soft drinks are extremely over priced. We read about such great reviews and that's what sold us on kwa maritane and we were so so disappointed!!! I strongly suggest management to invest in upskilling programs and training for better customer service for their staff.

    Food was excellent.

I travelled single but the room price was for 2 people. Can't I have a single Tariff?

Near Sun city, good breakfast, pool for kids. Very friendly reception staff, gate and garden staff. Beautiful gardens. Most enjoyable Boma evening with superb music. Good cocktails.

Rooms were small, dark and dreary; shower flooded (maintenance had to come and clear drain); empty bottle on roof not cleared.

the food was excellent and the service too

one of the waiter from the boma side, he was a bit rude in terms of sitting arrangements

Nice clean gardens and friendly staff.Rooms were ok as was the food. Was what we expected and near the game park.

    The food was nice.

The room, although clean, was dated and not as nice as I expected it to be for the price. The game drive was disappointing. Spent almost an hour driving on public roads getting in and out of the park. Saw very little game the rest of the time.

Breakfast was good. The chef who make eggs was excellent. Room was comfortable. Food was delicious.

The yogurt at breakfast was a really bad quality one.

very good service from the kitchen and bar, staff are very friendly and helpful. maintenance tried their best to accommodate us but they could not get the aircon fixed.

The first room was really problematic, aircon dripped all day and toilet leaked, the sliding door could not lock at all.. Took them 2 hours to move us to a different room that was old and moldy. the venue really needs up keeping we paid R6000 a night for a dilapidated room full of issues. I think there is much better value elsewhere in the area and i would think twice going back.

A lovely breakfast and dinner buffet that changed every night and we’re not usually buffet diners. Friendly helpful staff. Location where the wildlife comes right up to the fence and an elephant even came to drink at the restaurant pond one morning. Fun and informative game drives.

A little pricey but worth the splurge. The potholes on the roads to get there.

    7PieterPosted on: 3-12-2025

The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was very decent and tasty. The grounds were well kept and the lodge is right next to the national park. The receptionists were super welcoming and friendly and so were the porters.

Some of the restaurant staff should be trained in customer service (for example, don't turn your back when a customer is speaking to you, pay more attention to your customers than your conversations with your colleagues, smile!). The game drive took us on a 20 minute drive outside of the park with another 20 minutes to return - I actually booked Kwa Maritane for being right next to the park, so it felt like a waste of 40 minutes. It felt like a real shame that the only South African dishes for dinner were pap and sheba - it felt like a missed opportunity to really show off the best South Africa has to offer.

Nice hotel inside the Pillanesberg Park. We had half board, the food was ok. We had game drives included wich was a highlight for the kids.

    long distances to walk.

All meals excellent. Beautiful location. Lots to do.

There used to be busses taking you to Sun City. This was a while ago.

    10ChantelPosted on: 3-4-2025

The stay was phenomenal. The room was beautiful and clean, the food was great, and we saw lots on the game drive. We particularly enjoyed the hide and sat for ages watching an elephant up close.

I made a booking for guests that we sent to the lodge as a gift. However when the couple arrived, they were asked to make payment. I was not sure why I was asked online for all my credit card details, if the payment was not going to go off on my credit card as entered. The problem this causes, is that the person booking or providing their credit card details, might not be the same person VISITING the lodge. This needs to be taken into consideration. The payer might not be the same person visiting the lodge. This caused quite an upset when the guests arrived, and they were expecting the bill to have been settled already (as per my credit card). Luckily after insisting, the Manager sorted it out, I was sent a link to process payment. But if I was not available at that moment, my guests (whom we treated to a stay at your lodge), would have had to pay the bill (and they might not have had the funds readily available); and this could have caused quite an unfortunate situation.

Lovely relaxing setting, great breakfasts and the game drives were excellent with very knowledgeable guides. Kids loved the pool and slide and the snake demonstration.

Some staff were not very friendly.

The staff is very friendly, the Boma dinner ,the game drive, the kids program, the amenities, proximity to sun city.

The carpets have a funny smell. They need to go.
