    Pros +

    • Did Not like having to park away from hotel. Did NOT like being told room was ice cold upon arrival when AC wasn't even on. Room did cool quickly after we started it in room but for the price, it wasn't worth it.
    • Location and staff. Staff very friendly and very helpful. You can't beat the location.
    • The location was perfect to get to know and see Salzburg. Easy walk to all attractions and sights we were interested in seeing in the Alstadt. The restaurant was wonderful. The breakfasts were more than ample. The atmosphere was beautiful and meals were perfection.

    Cons -

    • minor detail, but the comforters on the bed, twin size versus queen or king. Although that seems to be a European standard, prefer full Queen comforter for a Queen bed.
    • Nothing comes to mind. I didn't give the highest rating for cleanliness, but we visited in winter and it would be hard to keep up with the salt and winter mess on the floors.
    • That the parking was difficult. Some kind of valet parking would have been great.

This hotel is located in the old part of Salzburg, which is great if you arrive by taxi or Uber. We were driving a rental car and the parking lot was a good way from the hotel, forcing two of us who are 65 years old, to roll our large suitcases through throngs of tourists and over cobblestones. We were hot and exhausted when we arrived. I do not recommend staying here if you have a rental car you need to park.

That the parking was difficult. Some kind of valet parking would have been great.

Anasingly kind and helpful people. I will call them friends - not staff. Facility is in a beautiful 700 year old biuildimg. Beautifully restored yet retaining its character. My friend and I were there for Advent markets. Perfect location! We’ll be back.

The hotel is located right in the hub of all activities of historical significance (within 5 minutes of walking). It is uniquely small with home like feel and maintained clean with superior sense of aesthetic. The hotel manager Ulricke’s attention to detail and welcoming smiling helpful nature makes this beautiful hotel more special. Her hospitality is infectious to run it through all the hotel staff members to make this place feel like a caring family far away from home. The restaurant is amazingly good. I would not stay anywhere else in Salzburg other than this small beautiful hotel in old town.

I wasn’t sure if this hotel would live up to the hype, but it absolutely does in every way. We did not meet Ulrika, but Christopher helped us check in and was great. The welcome glasses of Prosecco are a nice touch. I will also add that we had to change the dates of our stay after the free cancellation period ended, and the hotel was kind enough to let us re-book very last minute for only the small difference in rate. The hotel is very quiet and exudes class and old European charm; it sits in the most beautiful and perfect alleyway in the center of old town Salzburg. Walking distance to everything. Highly recommend a reservation for dinner at the restaurant (Gasthof Gdoldgasse) - it is exceptional. Easy to see why they received a Michelin star. One other thing I sincerely appreciated is that this hotel actually has a functional A/C. Beds are cozy. Breakfast in the restaurant was great.

    Nothing :)

We loved staying at this hotel. Its close enough to the action, but on a quiet side street. The breakfast is filling, with meat, cheese, yogurt and eggs. Its well worth booking with the included breakfast. The hotel itself is fully renovated, with modern, artistic touches throughout. Our room was stocked with some complimentary snacks which came in handy late in the afternoon. The room itself was not huge, but the hotel is in the old part of town and it was comfortable and efficiently renovated. The main reason the stay at Goldgasse is Ulrike, who greets and checks everyone in and is a presence throughout the hotel. She is warm and welcoming, always ready with directions, a map and a smile. Ulrike treats everyone like family and it makes for a restful, fun stay. Of all the hotels we visited in Austria, this had a homey feel while maintaining a high level of service. I would not stay anywhere else in Salzburg.

Super central location , despite in the middle of it all very quiet. Super friendly staff and great breakfast. The restaurant is also great for dinner or lunch

With luggage not easy to get to the front door ( pedestrian zone only )

A really exceptional stay in Salzburg. The hotel is lovely and old, but with all the modern amenities in the room and bathroom so the feeling was quite luxurious. It’s located on a beautiful, historic little alleyway right in the old city center. The hostess Ulrike and the restaurant are a big part of what made the hotel feel top notch. Ulrike’s welcome might be the best I’ve ever experienced. She’s fun, warm, genuine, and almost cartoonish in the absolute best of ways, while also coming across as an artful mix of personable and professional. And she brought us bubbly! And she found safe storage for my bicycle! And she made my boyfriend, a black man, feel right at home. The restaurant is truly exceptional—the breakfast was incredible and huge(!) and the gal that serves breakfast was also really great at her job, with just the right balance of attentive but giving space, warm, and helpful. The dinner was one of the best we’ve had in several months of travel. Can’t say enough good things about this hotel!

    Location

Not worthy of Michelin rating. Uncomfortable bed, poor mini bar, half used bottles of juice.

    10OlwynPosted on: 5-31-2025

Excellent location. Excellent accommodation with comfy beds, luxuries, complimentary refreshments. Excellent service - Ulricke was the best! She took excellent care of us and made sure we were well looked after.

Breakfast was not included, but would have been a nice touch.

Hotel manager Ulrike made out stay at this hotel extra special. She is a super star. Thank you very much. The hotel breakfast was great.

The floor of the hotel room is uneven. It made me feel like falling often. Have to get used to it and be careful.

Everything! Amazing location at Goldgasse, most amazing hotel manager and staff, amazing restaurant downstairs and beautiful historic building

    10AndrewPosted on: 4-25-2025

Location was awesome. Right in the old city center. Room was comfortable with all the amenities we needed. That included an umbrella, windows to let in fresh air, hair dryer and coffee. Hostess was the absolute best!

    Nothing to note.

    9PoorviPosted on: 4-18-2025

Amazing location, housekeeping staff was very nice, facilities in the room were really good from the toiletries to the coffee to the Smeg appliances. Room size was very good

No hotel bar, had to convince the staff at the restaurant to allow me to get the nightcap there. Check in felt a bit cold and unlike what I had read online.

A unique and quirky hotel with very uniquely decorated rooms in the old town area of Salzburg. Ulrike - the lovely host - though made our stay so memorable. She gave us some great recommendations both for one of our day trips and our route onwards to Vienna. So lovely. Restaurant was great too (even with the louder party at one of the tables!!!).
