    Pros +

    • Breakfast was OK, if expensive. As always, the fruit seemed mass bought rather than selected.
    • Well located for exploring Besancon. Comfortable spacious room. Nice selection of food at breakfast. Staff friendly and accomadating.
    • A refurbished building smack in the middle of the town, great for doing everything on foot except getting to the train station. One can see that it's an old hotel that got retrofitted: the rooms have old-fashioned vestibules, which are actually great for keeping the room proper very dark. The continental breakfast was great, with a yoghurt bowl (very important for me) and a good variety of local and more broadly French delicacies. Despite being an older building, there were no issues with water pressure or temperature in the shower. The reception crew was very kind and helpful, without exceptions. Despite being classed as a three-star in Booking.com, local signs labelled it as a four-star, and indeed it had traits of both. There's a casino with a restaurant next to it, which is an excellent option for Sunday nights when lots of restaurants are closed due to the small size of the town.

    Cons -

    • I loath foam pillows. They have no consistency and offer little support. The decorative cushions were necessary to provide support for my head. I had two relatively sleepless nights.
    • The air conditioner in the room was noisy, so I needed to turn it off. No big issue in late summer or early fall, but I imagine it could be annoying to light sleepers. The "free wifi" was more annoying, though: you could only get low speed access unless you registered in Accor Hotels, which I chose not to do and was thus forced to route everything from my mobile device. There was no mini-fridge in the room, which is not a given for a three-star hotel, but would've been welcome, especially for my mother who takes medication that needs refrigeration.
    • A hotel looks a bit outdated, it's closer to american hotels than europeans. The bathroom has a bathtub with a shower, what is not the best solution.

A nice hotel in the city centre nearby the park. A very comfy stay. Nice breakfast.

The location was nice near the center, the staff was very friendly, especially during breakfast were our dog was treated as a special guest!

Breakfast was great and they had on-premise parking. Staff was friendly and attentive.

The room was really hot when we arrived. Leaving the window open at night was not an option because we had a room facing the street and on top of it there was a club across the street that was blasting loud music for most of the night. The air conditioning was annoyingly loud and did not help much either. Overall we did not sleep much.

    Nice location and friendly staff.

Airco barely worked and did not cool the room. We had our own ventilator which helped some.

the staff were really helpful and courteous.

The rooms are tired. The furniture is worn, the tiles and grout lines in the bathroom were black due to mould and age, the interior of the fridge was mouldy/dirty. We booked thinking, from the website information, that this hotel had a functioning restaurant, but when we went to book a table forFriday night we were told the restaurant was closed. (The reception did book us a table at the casino restaurant next door.) The breakfast was OK, plenty of choice, however replacement of bacon, eggs and mushrooms was very slow and when it was replaced on Sunday morning the bacon was uncooked and very poor quality, more fat than meat and eggs and mushrooms were cold. The toaster was also broken on Sunday and some of the plates were chipped, but still being put out by the hotel staff. The bar was operated by the reception staff, who were again really courteous and helpful, however the bar had an aroma almost like a sewer, so we didn't stay long.

At last, the hotel is back to what it was a few years ago. I love all the renovations undergone since then, especially the freshly repainted walls, the new carpets, doors, and locks. Fresh juice is also back at breakfast. As usual, the staff are friendly, there's a parking lot and the location ideal, with or without children.

Renovations are still underway : I could have done without the sound of drilling coming from upstairs, but at least it didn't happen before 10am. For some reason, no one did my room on my next to last day even though I had left the sign out way before 11am.

It is a comfortable and well located hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the stay at Mercure

Newly refurbished rooms were very nice Location close to Centre with easy access

There weren’t enough staff No bar after 6.00pm poor guy on reception tried to help Similar with breakfast one guy rushed off his feet

We stayed one night, on a motorcycle tour. The location is good, close to the Micaud city park, convenient to the center. Air conditioning is available, though with dated and noisy systems not always working. However, the front desk staff was courteous and helpful in changing our room to a similar one but with more effective ac system. We did not choose breakfast at the hotel!

The hotel is rated 4 stars but the overall impression is a bit decadent, both at the entrance and on the floors. Renovations are in progress in several rooms but sketchy, keeping the furniture dated and ruined. Bathrooms need a complete replacement of the bathroom fixtures and drainage system.

    Good

Hotel was under refurbishment so restuarant was closed during our stay and there were occasional sounds of building work. However, this was a minor inconvenience and the concierge gave us vouchers for free drinks at the bar to compensate.

    Passable

First of all, air conditioning. It was so noisy that at night I felt like I was on a plane. If it cooled as much as it was noisy, there would be icicles hanging from the ceiling in the morning. The fact that there was rotten ham on the menu in the morning was just proof that there was room for improvement.

Friendly, helpful staff, clean rooms and great location

    10StevenPosted on: 10-26-2023

Excellent location. Outdoor, gated parking covered by CCTV and with no height restrictions. Large comfortable room with quiet air con.

Bathroom was very clean and well appointed but could do with a refurbishment in the next couple of years as it was a bit dated.
