    Pros +

    • Good stay at this property. Friendly and helpful staff. Special mention - They have wheelchair and access to the rooms for the disabled .
    • The room was clean and the furniture comfortable
    • The toiletries in the bathroom were very limited and nothing near any resort i know. Menu was also very limited and kitchen closes at 7pm.

    Cons -

    • A little away from walking street but manageable. Free shuttle is provided
    • This was our third visit to the Imperial and over the last seven years it has declined visibly. Wooden railings are loose, the shower is uncontrollable and the sink has virtually no water supply. We regularly book a suite next to the pool but this is now quite noisy because the pool has been opened up to the general public for a fee of 50 baht per person. There are often large groups of Thai families cavorting noisily during the day and teenagers enjoying the privacy of the pool in the dark. All this detracts from the peace and tranquility hoped for in what was once a rather grand old hotel.
    • Breakfast and food that we ordered

    Reception staff were helping

Really run down ! Overpriced for the state of the hotel and the breakfast was such poor quality food

    5AntoniaPosted on: 12-22-2024

The room was spacious with a balcony. The bed was fairly comfortable.

The fridge in the room was loudly on the seals and would only operate if it was set to MAX, which then froze everything. The shower curtain in the bathroom also had mould stains. The towels looked horrible and needed replacing. None of the bins were lined with bags, which seems quite unsanitary, the furniture is old and some of the chairs felt like there were going to fall apart. There are no lights in the ceiling only lamps, so lighting is poor. The biggest issue was the floorboards, they were squealing and flexing so much they felt like they would break at any moment. Not sure this hotel should still be classed as 4 star. It's in need of serious renovation.

We certainly do not recommend this hotel, it is very bad.

The front desk staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, there was no welcome. There was no staff to carry our bags to the room, we had to shift our own bags. The room smelt very damp and musty, it was very unpleasant. The room and whole hotel is in a state of disrepair and desperately needs refurbishment, all furniture is dated and old.The shower/bath hot water system didn't work properly, it was very difficult to stabilise a comfortable water temperature (it was either scalding hot or very cold). There was a set of instructions how to control the water temperature however these instructions failed to control the water temperature properly. The breakfast was very poor, one day it was non-existent with no staff present. Breakfast was a waste of time and money.

The breakfast was great with plenty of variety. The restaurant for dinner was good with Thai and western food. Staff were great, the place well maintained. Would stay again. Pool was well kept.

Nothing, great place to stay. Would stay again

    Good size room, excellent staff

The shower in the room was basically unusable unless you held it. Breakfast was not great. Very noisy location being right on the main road. Whole hotel is very tired and needs a lot of work.

The pool is nice. Easy to find on the main highway.

This place would’ve been amazing 20 years ago, but it has fallen into disrepair. The massive deck that surrounds the place is rotten and falling apart. We had a beer from the bar and it cost double the price of in town. We had motorbikes, so could ride into town, but if you wanted to walk in, it’s a long way. This was the most expensive stay of the trip, and the most disappointing.

Great staff and a charming building that was once a grand place I am sure.Nice big rooms with nice chairs.

The wooden floors are very creaky and would be very annoying if you had other people in the room above you. Maybe tile the rooms as this would modernise the rooms and solve most noise issues.Average maintenance. Not 1 English channel on the TV which makes it void for use by tourists.

    Nothing to write home about

Poor electricityUnstable hot water in the bathPoor electrical system in the room.Horrible breakfastThis is an example of how not to run a hotel.Pity, the facility with such a huge potential, is run by an incompetent manager.

    7LennaPosted on: 3-3-2024

There were very few options to find an accomodation in Mae Hong Son, so The Imperial was an obvious choice. I guess it once was a very nice hotel, now it is a little bit dated but we found it some what charming. The place was clean and comfortable. We took a hour long foot massage there in the hotel massage point and it was the best massage so far in Thailand.

    The property is pretty dated.

    Staff were good

When we followed directions to the hotel it took us to derelict hotel. Location, it was on booking .com as being 800mtrs from centre however it was at least 20 minutes by car. Luckily the hotel had free transport. We booked this as we wanted to get close to the centre! There was only two sun beds around pool! You need to pay a visit.

Spacious room in a quiet area and massage salon next to reception

    Cold breakfast

    3PedroPosted on: 11-29-2023

Hotel is tired and in urgent need of an update. The beds were bouncy and not comfortable; the bathroom was in poor shape and due for a major renovation. Very limited breakfast options.

    9JohnPosted on: 11-7-2023

Always enjoy staying at the Imperial, it has a slightly faded charm that feels a bit old world colonial and the staff are all superb

It would be easy to find minor faults but they don’t detract from the overall ambience

    7DeePosted on: 4-7-2023

The pool, our room was clean and made up everyday and nothing seemed a problem for any department except the reception staff

It was located out of walking distance to town and the courtesy bus did not run that often and nothing in the morning.Reception staff were below average but the rest of the staff were great. Some of the timber work needed replacing due to dry rot

    4ChristopherPosted on: 2-19-2023

The transfers to and from the center was good. Bit no guidance to where the walking street was,

The staff were miserable - clearly issues going on,The breakfast was poor - the worst on our 2 week trip so far,

    7JochenPosted on: 2-17-2023

    Nice staff, nice old building

Very expensive because old furniture and room, but ok. Lower price and it would be fine.

Driving the Mae Hong Son loop my partner and I stayed here for 2 nights. On the whole we had a good stay here and as we had a car could drive to places to eat and tourist sites, however a few of cons to be aware of which if noted below:

Pool:- pool side is lovely, however only 5 sun beds so difficult to grab one if the hotel is busy - There is poolside toilet however the door is locked so you have to go up to your room for a wee- They serve drinks by the pool which you have to collect from the bar, we had a big bottle of Chang each which came to total of 360 Baht (180 each!) the same size bottle of Chang at the local night market was 65 Baht eachBreakfast:- Breakfast was mainly Thai food which we didn’t have a problem with, what we didn’t like was the vast amount of flies on all the food, fruit and sauces meaning we were limited on what we could chose from. They serve breakfast outside so I simple solution would be to serve it inside (or just go for breakfast as early as poss to get it fresh without many flies!)Room:- we had a lovely room which was a bit dated but that didn’t bother us, I did however notice shower mold in the bath room and on the shower curtain which wasn’t the nicest, the bathroom sink also had no plug hole so you could see right down the drain as you brush your teeth - not the end of the world but for the price you’d rather having a nice clean bathroom. For a night or 2 this place is fine providing you have some transport to get you to nearby tourist sites and restaurants. There is a restaurant at the hotel, however after our breakfast experience we didn’t go there, it always seemed so quiet there (likely due to the highly priced food). We drove to a local restaurant called Salween River Restaurant (serve both Thai and western food) which we would highly recommend! Food was amazing and staff were so friendly
