    Pros +

    • Good location with a view of the beach, but that’s most of Ahangama.
    • Amazing. The hotel is located on a hill next to a private beach (waves are pretty strong but safe to enjoy in the shallow). Beautiful views from the pool and the restaurant. Room is comfortable, stylish. Everything well thought to the smallest details.
    • The location, the property and the staff are amazing. We were greeted with a welcome drink and we were made to feel right at home upon check-in. The service and every detail of the hotel are amazing. We loved those aspect of our stay.

    Cons -

    • It goes on booking.com as a 5 star hotel, but it barely is a 3 star hotel experience. Everything was ridiculously overpriced and expensive. The kitchen staff had gone home by 9:30 even though they said the last order was at 10 PM so we didn’t get to have dinner. They charged us extra for room service (for brining some food that we had seperately paid for) and lacked the charm you’d expect from a fairly small boutique hotel. They try and palm it off as authentic “Sri Lankan”, but everything was lacking finesse, just cheaply done. I hated my stay here. I even cut my hand on the chair which was broken on the sides. When you shower, it can be seen from the next room. This is one of those places where it’s disingenuous. Even the food was cold.
    • Nothing! It was all great!
    • Unfortunately, the room category we booked (a two bedroom villa) was not available due to "unresolved maintenance issues" when we arrived at the property. The 2-bedroom villa costs more than two times the price of a one bedroom villa. The hotel did not notify us in advance of this problem, but instead we were told at check-in that we would be put into a one bedroom villa, and offered a free private dinner on the beach to make up for the loss. But we were still charged the 2-bedroom villa rate, which in retrospect, I should not have accepted. And it was clear the property wasn't sure whether we would accept their offer of a 1-bedroom villa at check-in, as they had not written our name on the property door until the second day.Second, the way our family of four were accommodated to the room was by adding two single beds to the non-air conditioned living room portion of the unit, resulting in a very uncomfortable night of sleep for those in the non-AC portion of the unit for the first night. We did not know initially that only the bedroom had AC until that evening when we retired in the room. The property also knew we were uncomfortable, as their crew arrived the morning after our first night there, before I had a chance to complain about the AC issue, and offered to move all 4 beds into the one air conditioned bedroom. We accepted their solution, since we were only staying two nights in total. It wasn't the experience we were looking for at this beautiful property on the beach. Given the maintenance issue of the two bedroom villas, if we had been given two one-bedroom villas, or given the rate for one one-bedroom villa, my review would have been 5 stars across the board.

Staff were so friendly and helpful. Couldn’t do enough for you.The views are fabulous The restaurant staff were very accommodating and would always make something suitable for my kids.

Sometimes I was conscious of the kids making noise as a lot of other guests were there for treatments and relaxing. But there was an area in the reception for kids to play with toys where they were welcome to play.

Had a great view from the restaurant and the pool was great.

Washrooms were poor quality, although functional. Also the unit was walled all the way around, so poor ventilation so during the day it was very warm. Only the room had AC. Spend 21 days traveling in Sri Lanka, I would say this property had the worst breakfast or meals of all the 6 properties we stayed during this trip.

we got a free upgrade- and had a wonderful stay…. unbelievable view at the breakfast— super friendly staff- very professional Ayurvedic Treatments in the spa - try out UTMT Heaven ? - great and healthy food

it’s a very relaxing place - if you are looking for an entertainment and fun hotel this is not the right place for you — here you will get full relaxation and time for your self

staff are welcoming and helpful. they love babies!! staff was very accommodating to our requests especially with requesting special baby meals

cleanliness, the rooms weren’t too clean. not many activities in the hotel as well. the spa was below average, both my husband and I didn’t enjoy the massage service we got at the spa.

amazing location. wonderful staff fabulous room.

the Saturday night’ entertainment ‘ was terrible. phone did not work in room

The private beach, excellent food, friendly staff, terrific tailor, poolwith a view, comfortable rooms, secure parking, the list goes.

personally the only grumble I have is the negative reviews that almost meant we didn’t stay there. One person said it ‘lacked atmosphere’… so I guess they were after a party hotel not a spa (that said we had a great live guitar duo on our first night for dinner). Someone else grumbled about late night noise from a neighbouring hotel. I just hope they don’t get any rooms on the beaches of Sri Lanka because the waves are a lot louder…

staff super friendly. helpful. outstanding view and facilities. will surely be back for the treatments.

little pricey beds uncomfortable and no ac on lounge kitchen areas. still good but could have been exceptional

Breakfast very good, position and views very good

Music being played locally until 6am ! Peacocks early morning call 6am !!! Spa facilities are ok but availability is poor, even though we didn’t see anybody working, doctor for health awareness check was not friendly.

It’s a lovely hotel, with beautiful grounds. the staff were super friendly and helpful. Everyday they have free activities on at certain times of the day like sunrise yoga, afternoon meditation, fruit, tea and cake around 4pm. The breakfast was 10/10 - I loved it and looked forward to it every day. They did cooked options as well as buffet style. everything was nice.

We had just come from Hiriketiya (10mins up the road) and in comparison to there this place was sooo quiet it lacked atmosphere. At times it felt a bit like a rehab centre. The food and drink onsite is soooo expensive and priced in Euros? I guess because it is a German hotel, but still the prices were similar to London/Berlin prices for meals and drinks. On our first night there was a big party going on in the next residence (not within the hotel grounds, but next to them) and the music kept us up til 4am - not a fault of the hotel but not sure how often that happens. It was the most expensive hotel we booked during our trip and I can see why, because the service is exceptional. But I was glad to get out of there after 2 days to be honest. I found it a bit boring.

amazing hotel with one of the best views I’ve seen in life, and also with a great sense of humour :)

awful cocktails in the bar, really wish the owner took as much attention to the bar as to the other things.

The facilities (room, furnishings, pool area) are very good and the location is beautiful. Having breakfast looking out over the ocean in the morning is very special. Staff were attentive and the housekeeping service very prompt. Having a pool as part of the room is pretty luxurious. Although the beach is not suitable for swimming it's only a short (8-10 min) tuk tuk ride to Hiriketiya beach which is one of the nicest beaches in Sri Lanka.

I think the hotel is best suited to older couples or young families as there isn't much atmosphere or vibe. Breakfast was nice enough but the al a carte menu was pretty ordinary and overall the food was very expensive for Sri Lanka. Actually you pay western prices for pretty much everything at the hotel (food, spa, getting laundry done etc). I can understand this partly being due to the 5 star status but also seems ridiculous that a pineapple juice is $6-7 AUD inside the resort when it's using the same pineapples being sold at restaurants and hotels outside the resort where it would cost $2. The one evening we ate at the property there was only the banquet available and we were told it was 4900 rupees ($33 AUD) per person. This is already quite steep for Sri Lanka....but then when I went to sign the bill I was told it was 6000 rupees ($41 AUD) per person because of a 20% increase in prices due to COVID....? When I challenged this (as we should have been notified of total price before eating) they did reduce it back to 4900 rupees...but overall the experience left a bit of a bad taste. Also the wifi wasn't working in our room which they said they would fix but never did (or notify us it wasn't possible). This wasn't a huge issue as we were on holiday but again is not what you would expect for a 5 star rating and the cost of the hotel.

The property was stunning. You will never tire of the incredible view. The staff really make this placeThey made an incredible effort all the time and especially on my Birthday!

amazing place for secluded relaxation, private beach, big rooms, friendly staff, picturesque view of the ocean

very poor assortment of food, even if you like Asian food. if you don’t love like our family you have to be hungry. horrible coffee

    10LauraPosted on: 12-29-2021

beautiful resort with every detail considered - free post box and phone box, free morning yoga, spa, 25m pool good for doing lengths in, seating in all areas of the grounds, private beach, etc etc! so beautiful and so well branded. staff are incredibly attentive. the WhatsApp service offered by reception is especially useful. healthy menu and great food - best Sri Lankan curry we’ve had so far. rooms fully equipped with radios , own Wi-Fi, lovely bath and gorgeous toiletries. loved our stay here - wish it were for longer!

a little sneaky of them - on check in we were asked if we wanted the 4 course menu for that evening and we said yes. however the next night we went to order off the other menu and were told we couldn’t as we had to have the 4 course set menu as part of our package - we obly booked b&b so we’re confused, and one of the staff members said that they’d already charged us to upgrade to that menu each night of our stay and said it was tricky to remove - but we didn’t ask for it ! they did remove it and we were able to order from the normal menu - but felt like we were an inconvenience to them. such a shame as everything else is amazing here was a confusing thing to have happened
