    Pros +

    • Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Delicious food - especially the steak and dessert. Since they were closed on my checkout date, they provided me with a delicious continental breakfast. Wonderful location for local hiking, with a trailhead right next to the hotel and a beautiful viewpoint only 5 minutes away. Overall I absolutely loved my stay and would come back / recommend to others!
    • The meal in the restaurant was excellent
    • This is a beautiful location right on the mountain, very close to hiking trails. The staff was the most helpful with us, they helped us with having a late dinner (very delicious), suggested the best places with maps and everyone was very positive. The room was ok.

    Cons -

    • The walls are thin so I can imagine this would be challenging during the busy season. For me, it wasn't a problem! Also, the rooms can get warm and stuffy - nothing that opening the windows couldn't help! The front door of the room faces directly outside to the parking lot on the ground level so there's not much privacy if you want to leave the shade open. Also, be aware that they're closed on Mondays.
    • There was coffee and tea in the room but a couple of plates and some cutlery would have been nice. We had some cake to have with our cup of tea but no plates, or a knife to cut it.
    • There were very a small parking lot, we couldn’t find a place but further away (staff helped us pack out lagguages in front of our room though). The room was cold, no shower gel just soap.

What a lovely place, very scenic and comfortable. The perfect mountain getaway. We even enjoyed a spectacular sunrise from a viewing platform (just a couple of minutes drive from the property, worth getting up early). The staff is also extremely friendly and welcoming. Thanks for the hospitality, we will be back for sure!

The staff were very welcoming. Loved the view of Mt Taranaki from our window, and the birdsong too.

A beautiful setting, the weather was perfect for us to hike and enjoy the National Park. The food at the Mountain House was excellent!

The rooms are small, but we were outside most days, so it was fine for us!

Cannot beat the location. In a cosy warm room on the mountain. Appreciated the electric blankets, the large bathroom, and having a fridge. Amazing access to forest tracks and saw it snowing in the evening and the morning! Dinner and breakfast were both delicious! Very romantic!

I loved the picturesque location. Coffee and tea and bath items were fully stocked. It was very quiet and peaceful. We had dinner in the restaurant. The food was expertly prepared, beautiful and delicious.

    The location and the hospitality

The mattresses needed updating and the rooms were over perfumed with infusers

Didn’t have breakfast at mountain House

More variable menu Outside light at unit 10 not working No comfortable chairs, toaster or tea towel No plates or cutlery Overpriced for what was available. 9am opening too late to pay bill or return key. We had to wait to pay before we could leave for our next destination.

Stunning location and staff. Incredible food in the restaurant. A special shout out to Joanna, the youngest member of the team, the lady with dark hair tied back, and of course Peter & Ali. A truly wonderful stay in this special place.

Only maybe the latest to book dinner was 7pm. Breakfast isn’t available until 9am.

    10JanePosted on: 3-17-2025

The spa bath, and the quality furnishings. The location is “to die for”. Taranaki is spectacular.

We were allocated the lodge on the end of a row of four so it was very quiet and handy to sit out on the picnic table. The room was large and very clean. It was lovely to have a spa bath and the towels were nice and fluffy. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, making us very welcome and suggesting trails to walk along. The lodge is set in the National Park with such pretty views and plenty of places to walk.We ate in the restaurant both nights of our stay and the food was wonderful. Would highly recommend the restaurant as well as the lodge.

This was not a negative point for us but the lodge is a good 15 mins drive away from the main road so plan trip carefully or just stay put and enjoy the tasty food, delicious coffee and over generous desserts.

The hotel is right in the Egmont National Park and conveniently for us to go for the hike easily. Restaurant dinner was fantastic and the staffs were nice.

Peter & Alie were fantastic. Superb tips for hiking, seeing Taranaki and weather. It was friendship on first handshake!

Only dined at dinner time. Our group experienced all of the menu, and without exception all meals were to a very high standard. Thank you.
