    • Right on the river
    • Very accommodating and wonderful location but what makes it truly special is the manager Sebastian who treats all his guests like family and makes me want to comeback again. It is rare to have these feelings in current days but we do. Thanks to all but especially Sebastian.

The breakfast was a nice surprise because the room service menu was very basic. There was a good selection of cheeses and meats plus hot eggs, bacon, sausages etc. Dinner was OK.The location of the hotel is very good, just a short walk into the town. We had a room overlooking the ramparts, which was very pleasant. Car parking is directly in front of the hotel and is free.

Reception was a shambles. Rooms are supposed to be ready at 12.00. We waited until 3.30 for ours. On one side of our twin beds there was less than 30cms between bed and wall!! Lots of noise from the road, earplugs would be useful. Hotel in general could do with updating.

It was a good place for an overnight en route to catch the afternoon ferry to Portsmouth.

No chairs in what was a very small room.

The air conditioning didn’t work! The bed cover I think was a couple of wool blankets inside a duvet. Absolutely awful to try to sleep. It was also heavy. I didn’t sleep hardly.

The airconditioning, the bed cover, the leaking shower

Very clean, wonderful staff, great location.

Not the hotels fault, but there were very loud motorcycles buzzing the town center until after 1am.

Good location and easy parking (for a town centre).Restaurant good food.

Not enough staff to serve a busy restaurant. Two groups and they were swamped. They would have known from the bookings. Poor service as a result with fingers writing down the orders, diners going to bar for drinks and refills etc. Shame as staff there were lovely - just completely overwhelmed.

Fantastic staff who were helpful and kind. The town is really pretty and historic. What a pity the car park outside your bedroom window is a public one where the local bikers gather!

    As above

    Minimal

Breakfast was poor. Cooked food used up. Asked waitress for more and she was angry and surly! It finally came twenty minutes later and was so little that the next guests had to ask for more! She has an attitude problem.

The staff are wonderful and a credit to you. They are kind, considerate and helpful.

The location is terrible. The car park is outside the front windows and the motorbikes and parties at 12.00 & 2.00 & 4.00 !,,,,, are terrible. The police need to be involved in the motorbike trials outside your hotel!!!!

Very lovely welcome by the smiling receptionist. She went out of her way to assist my elderly mother which was greatly appreciated. Beautiful warm room on the ground floor and excellent breakfast brought to the room. We look forward to returning.

Close to the train station, spacious rooms. Powerful fan in the room helped with the heat

Breakfast buffet setup could have been better organized so that the stations are not so close together, which caused congestion

It’s a well positioned and clean hotel with nice interiors.

    No complaints. It’s good.

This Mercure Hotel is well located by the river and fortifications which makes it easy to find. It is clean and comfortable, but it is the staff that really make this hotel; they are friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble.

There was no a/c in the warm rooms, on a hot July night, just a fan. But the windows opened wide so all was good!

    10SeamusPosted on: 6-11-2023

The location was great, right beside pubs, restaurants and shops.Maud, the Receptionist, had very good English, which was great for us as our French is very limited. She was friendly, approachable and very accommodating. Thank you, Maud.

    7PhilipPosted on: 5-21-2023

Ideally located within the heat of the town just ver the river.

Noise on the road outside, meant we couldn’t leave our window open at night for fresh air. But the hotel had provided a fan to overcome this.

Looks good, but looks can be deceiving.

Unremittingly awful. Ground floor car parking and a second floor entrance and reception that seemingly could only be reached by climbing two flights of external stone steps. With luggage, limited mobility and in my eightieth year, it was not the start that I expected. Allocated a room that could not be reached by using the adjacent lift specified by staff. We tried and failed, and were then led half way down the the building to another lift that meant a double-back along a whitewashed utilitarian corridor to our room, 111. It had no fridge, no aircon, no fan, no washbasin in loo and no wi-fi but by this time we were exhausted and slumped down in relief. Gradually the room's shortcomings became evident, and having paid 127 euros in advance we made our observations clear on check-out. Our two euro city tax was waived as a gesture of goodwill. In sum, a total, complete and utter waste of money.
