- What a wonderful experience! The property was beautiful! The staff were friendly and helpful. We loved our stay!Tasting menu was a lovely experience!
- Hartford House is a true gem in the South African Midlands. The staff, the setting, the decor, our room in the manor house, the food, the relaxation, the cocktails - everything was just amazing
- The beautiful architecture the colourful flowers the green paddocks the smell and of course the beautiful horses...truly majestic...
Cons -
- The tasting menu was lovely experience, but we had to wait quite a while between courses. the second night we ordered from the menu while others were having the tasting menu. The service could have been better. maybe separate the tasting menu area from the rest of the diners who order from the menu. The staff at reception were helpful when we booked the sip and paint activity but unfortunately, they forgot to set it up for the time requested. Also, when we checked out it was not charged, we had to remind them which delayed our check out. Overall they were friendly and helpful
- We didn’t have a phone in our room so we communicated via whatsapp whenever we needed something. But network was not good so messages were delayed.
- A stunning location, but the service was terrible. Manager David was completely ineffective and showed no interest in finding a solution. My birthday weekend was ruined—thanks, Hartford.

This stop over is always a treat. The attention to detail, the friendly staff, the food is out of this world.Beautiful horses. It now boasts a padal court too.
Such a beautiful place. The professionalism of the staff is on another level. The manner in which they addressed us - top tier. We had a great experience. Dinner was amazing. Our room!!!! SO BEAUTIFUL.

The setting and rooms were very nice
The food was absolutely shocking. Hartford house has always had a great name for food and what was served was absolutely not acceptable
We keep coming back to this magical part of KZN because of the staff. That team is stellar. Nothing is too much trouble and they go above and beyond for our little family. We also absolutely love their lakeside suites. We’ve also seen an improvement in their food offering and Nkululeko, the new sous chef, who I’m sure is going to bring a freshness and simpler approach to the food menu. He trained under Jackie Cameron so I know good things are coming? The new padel court is also a nice touch.
The roads to get there are a challenge but once you’re there, it’s so worth it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was spacious comfortable and beautifully decorated. The gardens are magnificent and staff very helpful and efficient.
Having to leave.
Beautiful grounds, close to nature, clean and comfortable rooms
The persistent “pushing” of the tasting menu, and in some instances appalling service in the dining room and bar
The hotel was stunning, beautiful surroundings, gardens are absolutely amazing. The staff are friendly and very pleasant. The food was very good.
The main roads to get there are atrocious, I've never driven on anything like it in my life. They should just remove all the tar and make it sand roads. The mini bar prices we found expensive.
Food was amazingTastefulCatered appropriately for Halall mealsChef understood our dietary requirements
Bicycles need to cater for younger cyclists
Tranquil, beautiful surroundings, good food, fresh air! Wow!!
To only stay for 3 nights! I could live there all my life?????
It was like paradise, loved the roses, the tallest most beautiful trees, the old world charm that was gracious and quaint. The horses the beautiful green hills, everything was close but you had your space, just gorgeous . The drive through Mooi River was a little sad, as it’s so run down, but as soon as you enter the property you are transported into a different world. The small details put in place to ensure you are comfortable was unlike I have seen. Truly remarkable spot right here in KZN. PLUS The breakfast was fabulous, with Parma ham, melon and delicious homemade muffins and followed by some delightful unique hot served breakfasts … plus one of the best cappuccino’s !!
Nothing, it’s so well looked after it’s perfection.
Beautiful place with spacious luxury rooms. Amazing garden and surroundings. Perfect for long walks. And the loveliest horses all over the property.
It was so stunning, beautifully done! It had such a luxurious feeling to it! With beautiful walks and stud farm tours.
The bathroom floor heating didn’t work. It made the bathroom very cold.
