- Great location, friendly staff, good breakfast and dinner
- There aren't that many choices in Vardo if you want a proper hotel with proper breakfast :-) This is however a good enough choice next to tourist info and harbor and free parking.
- The staff were so kind, the vegetarian food was incredible and location perfect for visiting Hornøya.
Cons -
- Only problem was that the restaurant was not open, even though the confirmation said it was. Good breakfast in the morning though.
- The place was a bit understaffed, reception, restaurant, but understandable in such a remote corner of Norway
- If you like retro style :)

Rooms as expected. Basic and clean! Staff above and beyond friendly and helpful! Food excellent!
Blow dryer did not work
For visiting Vardø / Vardøya (and, in particular, the Vardøhus Festning - the world's most northerly fortress), the hotel's location is unparalleled. The food was excellent as regards both taste and preparation, and the manager's helpful recommendation of a local cider to accompany "the best cod in the world" and helpful explanation of what "brown cheese ice cream" (tastes much better than it sounds in English) is were much appreciated. But the highlight of our stay was said manager telling me on our second day (after I had explained that I had been dreaming of visiting Vardøhus Festning for a decade) that he - the manager - had arranged with the fortress' commandant (a serving Norwegian Army officer) for my wife & I to have a private guided tour with said commandant of the closed parts of the fortress. .
These are nitpicks in comparison with the great strengths of the hotel (vested prncipally in the staff and their connections in the local community) but - the rooms were a little distressed in the margins, and the restaurant & wine menus (in what was apparently "off season" despite being August) was quite limited - it would have become repetive on a longer stay.
Conveniently located. Breakfast and The restaurant was excellent.
Nottingham in particulat
Not good
Hot room, noisy street, bad smell.
Clean, comfortable and perfect service. We spent our 20th anniversary here in the "most northeastern" place in Norway. The reception arranged some flowers as a surprise and made us the reservation for our dinner. Also we most probably got an upgrade to our room due to the occasion without any extra price.
Nothing bad to say.
It’s position It was very clean No fuss going to the room Warm and cosy
There was nothing I didn’t like about it
Very convenient location 100 m from the tourist information center and the Hurtigruten port. Good breakfast included. Huge window towards the harbour. Spacious and clean room. Vardø itself is an amazing place to be and deserves a couple of days for explorations.
Staff was rather "nordic distant". Friendliness and engagement needs a little improvement. Breakfast buffett was almost empty 1.5 hours before it ended for two days in a row. That is something staff definitely need to have an eye on.
The room was tidy and the staff were friendly.
The menu was limited and reasonably expensive. The room was hot at night.
Location.
I could not pay extra to guarantee a room facing the sea. I was assigned a room overlooking the street that was hot and had no sea breeze.
Simple, comfortable, excellent breakfast, friendly staff.
No elevator, not great with heavy suitcases.
Nice and pet friendly hotel. Good breakfast. The staff was kind and helpful.
Smoking people next the main doors, huuh!Next to the bed, there was no cupboard to place a mobile phone or TV remote control (the room of a guest with an animal is simple and probably with older furnishings).
My partner and I stayed at the Vardo Hotel for 4 nights and absolutely loved it. We are both wildlife lovers so this was a little gem for us - for example we booked a puffin/whale safari trip through the hotel (where we made friends with Boris, the guide, who was brilliant!). On arrival we were greeted by Eirik who made us feel so welcome - he offered us lots of great recommendations of places to visit and would also come and chat to us over dinner, which created such a warm friendly vibe about the place. During the day my partner and I would go out exploring, and something I loved was the warm cosy feeling you got when walking back into the hotel in the evening. In terms of food there is a restaurant in the hotel and the meals are delicious. The breakfasts are also exceptional. For example tasty coffee, waffles, fruits, meats/cheeses etc.The hotel is a 2 minute walk from a food shop which was really convenient. Finally the view from the room was lovely and the rooms themselves were pleasant and clean.
The only negative (and for me this is something minor as overall we were really happy) was that above the bed there is a little shelf that's made to cover the light, which wasn't the comfiest if wanting to sit up in bed. Additionally our room had 2 single beds pushed together rather than a double bed. However- certainly nothing that would put me off staying that this lovely hotel again!
Excellent breakfast, room and location near harbour.
The room had a wonderful view of the harbour and it was very comfortable including two arm chairs. The buffet breakfast was good and there was a waffle maker which is something we appreciate. Coffee and cookies as well as apples are available all day. There is a laundry room that had detergent available (no charge to use the washer and dryer). We really appreciated the little details.
Location is super ! Great views, extremely close to boats to HornoyaFood is great, prices affordableVery polite staff !!
