    Pros +

    • Couches and books and kitchen supplies
    • Really scenic location. Good communications prior to arrival on what is available in the area and what is not.Easy check-in. Friendly, helpful staff.
    • Their proximity to the mountains is unmatched.. It's a unique location

    Cons -

    • Too many Bibi's squeezed in; no room for bags. Bunks should not be next to bathroom/sink. Need more hiking trails. Need shuttle to Mt Cook. We didn't have a car. Need screens on windows; bugs on every surface in common room.
    • The wifi password isn't in the envelope given at checkin. I wasn't the only one in the cabin that noticed.
    • Nothing. I would stay there again in the heartbeat.

The check-in experience was super easy. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The views from our room were absolutely insane. Then at night we went out at 11:00 p.m. and we could clearly see the Milky Way along with several constellations and major stars. I've never seen so many stars with the naked eye before. The room was very comfortable and I wish I could have taken the bed home with me because it was that comfortable.

Nothing. I would stay there again in the heartbeat.

One of the best places we stayed during our trip. Truly in the mountains. Peace and quiet with unbeatable views. Would stay here again in a heartbeat !

    Location, clean

Forgot our jet boil on the BBQ common area and did not have it on our hut trip where we really needed. Wish somebody would alerted the camp since we stayed there another night

    Location convenient to Mt. Cook.

Booked into a cabin with 5 bunk beds, one plastic chair, and no table. There was a sink, a toilet, and no shower. No coffee, tea, or tea kettle.

    8MadhavanPosted on: 10-5-2025

The views of mt. Cook from the property is amazing. The rooms are very comfortable and well stocked.

Wifi speed is extremely slow (room 10). A minor issue is that the reception didn’t have flexibility to charge my credit card for use of the laundromat. One needs to bring cash, which was a challenge for us.

It was close to Mount cook national park where we wanted to go.

    1. We had our pack of drinks outside our own room stolen. That was disappointing - being a small town, honest system is highly relied on. 2. The kitchen was super busy on both nights we had to cook our dinner and the pots and pans were so used, scratched and unpleasant to cook on. The fridge were obviously not being cleaned as there’s a stench and I wonder if it’s being normal fridge temperature as our meat placed in there for a day and half seems off because of the coldness. 3. The tables in the dining areas were disappointingly sticky and un-wiped when it was our turn to use. I understand that this is the guests issues but a little note to place around to get them wipe down each use, might helps 4. The chair in the bathroom to place the dry clean clothes were useless when the water sprayed everywhere- even if to get out, it out to the open sink with doors opening directly to the outside 5. Sorry- a breakfast cafe if claimed when it’s not ready by 8:30am for hot food is just a bit underwhelming

The views of the mountain, the peace and quiet.

The pots and frypan were not in good condition.

Stunning location.Great valueFantastic caring staffReally have nothing but great raves for this amazing place right near Mt CookThe Hilary centre at Hermitage hotel with the $25 entry for all the amazing films which run hourly from 10 am and valid for 48 hours is another bonus as is the observatory.

Absolutely nothing to be improved on

Definitely an excellent place to stay! The facilities and staff make the stay very warm and welcoming. While I do love coffee/tea on the house in hostels, they had a cafe on site and a warm toasty kitchen area. I'm sure the BBQ area would be quite a hit in the winter. Highly recommend staying here ?

    9AnnePosted on: 4-30-2025

The staff was extremely nice and I had a nice stay! Beds are comfy and the view from the lounge area is really peaceful.

    9TrudiPosted on: 4-29-2025

Facilities lovely - warm and clean.

Having to put up with the "vinegar shoes" of another room resident a bit tough. Beds very squeaky and mobile with any movement. Didn't actually sleep at all.

    Location, staff, scenery

No milk Could hear people from next room due to squeaky floorboards

    10TinoPosted on: 4-27-2025

Location was fantastic, so close to Aoraki. The room and facilities were great for what we paid and the staff were so lovely and friendly.

    9JennyPosted on: 4-26-2025

Great location. Comfy bunks. Great to have toilet and wash hand basin in room. Rooms well insulated for warmth and noise. Nice walk to lake.

We weren’t on a camping holiday so didn’t have crockery/kitchenware with us and limited cups, glasses etc available on site but that was on us not the facility. Main kitchen area very steamy so we opted for the covered BBQ area

    9VictoriaPosted on: 4-24-2025

Great location and View from the cabin. Everything was tidy and had utensils to Cook if needed.

Great park with friendly and helpful staff. Good facilities within the room and good location.
