Pros +
- Onsite restaurant was great. Roomy unit with two beds. Modern bathroom facilities. Friendly staff member that was happy to share travel ideas with us.
- location
- Dinner was amazing and affordable, top marks for the onsite restaurant. The advice regarding where to get a great breakfast was on point. Thanks so much for your hospitality. We would defiantly return; we were very happy and they more than meet our expectations.
Cons -
- Reception area not easy to locate upon arrival
- The bed was far too hard for my liking. Was told seperate toilet - while technically true, you still had to go through the bathroom to access. Website photos and descriptions were not true to what was available.
- It would be great if the privacy curtains could be pulled all the way to cover the door. As the entire front wall of the room was glass, I had to close the black-out curtains while it was still light out for privacy when in fact, if the sheers could be pulled all the way over, it would have been sufficient until going to sleep.

Large room, super friendly staff, parking right in front of my room. Be sure to give yourself two nights in Karamea in order to have a full day of taking in the attractions of the area. Be sure to visit the Dutch oven bakery!! I was there over Christmas and they had a delicious, 3-course dinner.

Dinner was delicious. We stayed for 2 nights and had dinner each night. The cook did a great job.
Last Resort in Karamea will welcome you like a family, you can spend the evenings at the restaurant and meet some locals. They for sure will help you to enjoy to the fullest your time in Karamea :) The food is also super tasty!
Welcoming hosts, lovely restaurant meals - try the whitebait fritters!
Wifi was great, parking close and big comfy beds. Tea coffee and biscuits provided was a nice touch.
Need screenS on bathroom windows and a fan for ventilation so can keep windows open but bugs out. Not great water pressure.
Perfect place to stay prior to doing the Heaphy. Bar and restaurant had a friendly atmosphere.
The restaurant is very good. Comfortable bed and a good shower. Decent sized room. Can walk to the shops on a nice day.
The skylights in the room need a clean, covered in cobwebs and dead bugs. The skylights drip condensation onto the bed.
The room was big & the bed was comfortable. The restaurant meal was great as well
Simple but clean, spacious and comfortable. Had what we needed for a short stay, close to the little village of Karamea, dinner was good too.
Not a lot of bench space but fine for a short stay.
Great place to stay for the on site restaurant and bar facilities, and handiness to the Heaphy Track start.
No problems.
Great room, clean, spacious, tea coffee plates toaster. Plenty of room in shower, hot water flow great.
Nothing to complain about.
Good value for just cook and sleep.
The room has dusty dump smell when we first stepped in. The room light with fan was way too dark and making noise constantly while using fan. No toilet paper in the toilet, the wall was too thin so you can hear everything through the wall. It was literally just someone was talking next to you in the room. We had no choice when we made a booking but we’d choose better room if possible.
Room quiet & spacious. Stayed before so I was familiar with surrounds, room size etc. Central within walking distance to other places
The fact I couldn't see in the mirror even on tip toes. Only 1 mirror in bathroom..
We were there 30 years ago. I remember big comfortable couches and fire. Disappointed that the lounge area was small. Huge dining area now. Shower in studio unit had green mould in the grouting. Curtains were falling down. Needed to be hooked up. Great sized unit. Friendly staff.
We upgraded to unit as was warned that studio had very thin walls. For extra $20 it was well worth extra.
Absolutely adequate facilities with very comfortable clean beds - just what we needed after a long 4 days on the Heaphy Track. Very friendly staff who are used to dealing with tired trampers. Sent us up the road for breakfast so we could leave on time - very considerate 'West Coast' hospitality
Perfect location. Spacious, modern room. Convenient restaurant and bar. Friendly service.
Small milk in the fridge would be handy for coffees.
