About

Enjoy a journey into history at the Gran Hotel La Perla, a sophisticated hotel dating from 1881, which combines modern facilities such as free Wi-Fi with stylish, classical décor. The Gran Hotel La Perla, right in the heart of Pamplona, was Ernest Hemingway's favorite destination when he visited the city. Personalities such as Chaplin, Orson Welles and the Aga Khan have also stayed at the hotel. You can look at the old reservations books displaying these famous names, and more. Wander right out into this city center, famous for its San Fermines bull chase. You will find the Plaza del Castillo and bullring within yards. The comfortable rooms are designed according to different themes, reflecting this hotel's amazing history. The rooms boast full air conditioning and soundproofing, as well as welcome amenities.

    Pros +

    • Hard to say. It was all so very lovely. Definitely the location was excellent. Also the staff showed warm hospitality and helpfulness.
    • Hemingway's history with the hotel and the location
    • The room was fantastic with windows overlooking the plaza and another cross street. There was a corridor separating the room door from the sleeping area, so we never heard anyone in the hallway. The bed and pillows were comfortable, the bathroom was convenient and split into a separate toilet and shower area with a sink and mirror in between.

    Cons -

    • I don't recall anything that I did not like.
    • For the money paid definitely not a 5 star hotel. Room decor tired belongs in the 1970s and breakfast lacking in selection.Complained about room on first day only to receive a puzzled response from staff.Needs a serious revamp of furnishings both in rooms and in hotel in general.Location was perfect but be prepared to have some difficulty finding location.A special occasion for our stay sadly ruined by disappointment in hotel selection.
    • Perhaps some softer pillows.

Right away I noticed the attention to detail at the Gran Hotel La Perla. The staff was exceptional! Our room was very comfortable. It had everything we needed including bottles of water, local candies and mats by the bed for wiping our feet. We slept great and had a delicious breakfast in the restaurant the next morning. The location is great! We walked everywhere and enjoyed the energy in the square outside the hotel. One of the highlights of our stay was visiting the room that Hemingway slept in which has been kept exactly the same through the years. We were lucky enough to meet the 4th generation owner of the hotel who took us on a tour of the room and shared the very interesting history of the La Perla and Pamplona. What a treat! We would definitely stay here again!

This was our third stay at this hotel and we still found everything as expected and perfect as before. We specifically wanted to see the Three Kings Parade and booked a suite right on the main square where we had a commanding view of the festivities. All rooms are individually decorated, not two are the same. The accoutrements are lovely. Attention to detail is everywhere. We had a very tasty breakfast with fresh fruits and good coffee and felt ready to travel on. And that is really what it is all about: good hospitality.

    Perhaps some softer pillows.

The location was absolutely perfect, right in the heart of the city with open access to transportation. The room was very nice, but more than anything was the staff. They were all incredibly warm and welcoming. Amazing crew.

Nothing. My family and I enjoyed every moment at this hotel.

We didn’t have breakfast but dine have two excellent dinners in the restaurant. You could not be in a better location right on the main square

Spacious, attentive service, everything you would expect from a 5* hotel with such a rich history. Rooms are themed, based on the famous writers who stayed there througout time. Valet parking in the heart of the city (just follow instructions even if you will enter the walking area by car).

    Shower mat was slippery.

The location, the staff was super, the large bathroom was luxurious and the bed was perfect- we actually overslept

    We only stay one night.

Central location, historic hotel with great service

Great hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. As the Hemingway suite was not occupied at time of our visit we requested and were taken to view it. I had recently read “Fiesta” by Hemingway which is based around this hotel during SanFirmin which made our stay memorable.

It’s starting to feel like a second home in Pamplona after staying two times. Anna and Alex treated us like family, muchas gracias!

    More coffee !

Tradition with modern comforts makes La Perla a stand out choice.

The shampoos and shower gels can be in better and bigger containers

Location - our room balcony overlooked the bull run route Room excellent and spacious. Ernest Hemingway stayed in rm 201

Trying to drive to hotel location - nightmare. IF you receive instructions on driving from the hotel - best read.

I liked the central location and the warm friendly atmosphere

There was insufficient shelving in the shower room to hold soap etc

    9LindaPosted on: 9-9-2025

The location is great in that you are in the heart of everything. We were on the fourth floor and there was little to no noise to bother us from the streets. The room was very comfortable with a huge bed, kettle, mini bar, very good (huge) shower and large fluffy towels. Bed linen was lovely.

True five star experience in the heart of Pamplona. A hotel that clearly has a history behind it, and a number of rooms overlooking the final stretch of “the Bull Run” (which I suspect will book up a very long time in advance). An excellent restaurant providing a very good breakfast ( albeit the same each day, an array of bread and cold cuts, pastries and cakes, with a little fruit and yogurt, with a small selection of additional freshly cooked egg options). Excellent dinners.

Nothing major: my wife felt the room decoration was a little austere but agreed it was very clean and comfortable.
