Classic hotel with attentive staff and a very good breakfast selection and setting
Bath tub was VERY slippery. Bath mat is much needed
Everything was really great. Smiling, kind staff, great room, nice hotel, perfect location, delicious breakfast.
The air condition didn't work, so the night was too warm to sleep.
Super convenient location, beautiful large room, nice breakfast.
A little pricy, but the service was amazing.
Great facilities, super location, amazing breakfast, great staff
Location and the roof top bar / restaurant.
Size of room (really small) and the air conditioning really never worked adequately.
The suite was very lovely. The staff was courteous and helpful and the location was excellent
The building is beautiful inside and out. Yes, the decor is dated and you feel like a passenger on the Titanic in 1912, but the building has character! The staff was very friendly and helpful from the moment I arrived. The location is great and many things are within walking distance. The 106 bus stop is 2 blocks north of the hotel. This will take you to/from the Syracuse bus terminal (adjacent to train station). Don't take a taxi to/from the bus/train station. They will charge you 15 euros. The bus is only 1 euro and change.Nice view of the marina.
The wifi/Internet was totally unusable. This is unacceptable by today's standards. You need to provide fast, reliable Internet access for your guests. As other reviewers have mentioned, if you are sensitive to noise, do not reserve a Standard Room. The Standard Rooms are located on the 2nd floor of the hotel. The 3rd floor of the hotel is the restaurant. You will hear the sound of furniture moving non-stop all day with the exception of 12am-6am. I recommend booking a deluxe room which are located on the ground floor and 1st floor OR bring ear plugs with you on your trip. The breakfast selection was good, but limited.
Property is gorgeous, staff is very friendly, rooms are very clean. Will definitely be staying here again!
This is a beautiful historic property in the perfect location for a night or two in Syracuse. You can walk north to the Archeological sites and museum or south on thru the Ortigia old town. We had dinner in Ortigia and watched the sunset over cocktails on the roof and then along the boardwalk. Treat yourself tot the suite.
The Suite was one of the best hotel rooms and the center of the hotel.
The Grand Hotel Ortigia is in a beautiful historical building and in a great location near the water. All the major sights were within walking distance which was so convenient. We also loved the rooftop restaurant which had beautiful views. The breakfast was outstanding with a lot of variety. The room was spacious and clean.
The Wifi needs to be improved, especially in the rooms. We weren't able to connect, only able to access it in the restaurant upstairs. We stayed on the second floor directly under the restaurant and it was quite noisy in the evenings and early mornings. This could bother light sleepers due to the wooden floors which makes the sound carry even the smallest of noises.
A grand style hotel indeed per such luxury standard 100 years ago. Very welll maintained & appointed, clean, comfortable, good staff .... with some room for improvement, per next section
1. Booked this 7 months ago per extensive research on Booking.com. I chose a specific triple corner room with sea view specifically for the view. Was checked into a 2 story room on lower floor with view of trees. Front desk staff insisted room given was same caliber as room booked & pics on Booking.com were not accurate. Have NEVER experienced this before in many years & many trips using Booking.com. An unacceptable situation that needs correction.2. Bathroom tub/shower typical of many in Europe. Impossible to shower without getting water all over floor. Never understood why this is typical in Europe. Had to use many towels to mop up.3. Breakfast buffet offered one set of warm offering - very runny scrambled eggs with very greasy bacon & sausage.4. Room was at 15°C when we entered.5. Perhaps unavoidable, but street noise very loud until 3am, very difficult to sleep.
The location, the beach area that you can go to and good bed and bathroom quality
Rooms are old and small (understandable) but the with closets, big chairs and tables there is no space to put even two bags and be able to walk. Also breakfast quality was really low, too many options in the buffet, but none of great quality.
Beautiful hotel with a lovely view of the water. Staff was exceptionally helpful. Delicious breakfast included in stay on top floor with tables outside as well as inside. Great location for exploring Ortigia on foot.
Great location with water front open air rooftop complimentary breakfast that was excellent. Good staff, great location and lots to see and do nearby.
My wife and I traveled a lot in Europe. If I have to rank the top three hotels that I have stayed in all major cities in Europe, this hotel ranked in the top three if not number one or two, the quality of service, the cleanliness, all the attention to the detail details in each room we had a two level suite that looks like a house With beautiful furniture, all kinds of luxury items like a museum in the room that we have to be careful not to rake the shower the bathrooms. The set up of the room was marvelous. In addition the breakfast at the rooftop area had a beautiful 360° view all the lunch and dinner And a bar at the rooftop was great. You almost did not wanna leave the hotel. We will definitely come back to Syracuse just to stay at this hotel again in addition the staff was great very professional
There’s nothing that I can say that I didn’t like about this hotel. Everything was great.
We like the 'Old School" feeling very classy. Love the breakfast on the terrace. The food was outstanding. If I ever go back this is where I would stay
The property is right on the water so it was one of the best locations in town. Hotel also had a wonderful roof top bar where you can have an appertivo during sunset (Which i did). Staff was fantastic and attentive too.
Our room was facing the street and were awaken on our 1st night when a garbage disposal truck was operating right at the foot of our room. It was noisy and lasted a few minutes too.
