- Excellent location in the centre of town, free parking, secure undercover storage for our bicycles. Beautiful old hotel in style with the Flemish surroundings. Very clean with modern facilities. Blackout shutters and a good nights sleep.Great choice for breakfast in the breakfast room which is adjacent to the stunning restaurant. A three course evening menu option was a very good choice. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.
- Great location clean parking
- Great place, super location, very quiet, lots of history
Cons -
- No 24 hour reception otherwise great
- We arrived Sunday afternoon, not many eating places open on a Sunday in late March. We should do more research next time and arrive a little earlier.
- No gf bread even though requested.

Lovely hotel with welcoming staff, comfortable rooms and great food.
Typical France/Belgium style hotel. Relaxed, welcoming bar used by locals. Rooms spacious but not many surfaces for stuff. Modern bathroom but the building retained its original charm. Very nice typical French restaurant used by the locals again (a good sign). Food quality good and waitresses attentive. Overall I would say an 8.5. Would stay again Breakfast extra but good value. Very good selection to choose from. No gf bread even though requested. Free parking on street. Located in a very interesting town. Hotel rooms separate from reception, bar and restaurant but not a problem.

Location, Town, Bars, Restaurants, Visited Dunkirk Museum, V1&V2 Blockhouse, great bars , everyone very friendly.
Everything was great.
Really central to Bergues, 200 metres from the town square. The town is a gem, so close to Dunkirk and Calais, so very convenient for both ports and a lovely, quintessential French town.Mondays is market day!
On the Sunday the bar and restaurant shut by 7pm, but there were a couple of places in the square to accommodate us.
Everything was good. Slight problem with the layout of the room, separate bathroom and toilet.
The location near the church and the facilities
A nice location not far from the town, but quiet. A kettle and a bottle of water were nice.
Minor gripes, took me a while to find the switch for the blinds, I even tried manually pulling them down. Shower took a while to work out, but it was fine once I got everything sorted.
Great location with plenty of free parking
Room was up a lot of flights of stairs. Sadly restaurant shut on Sunday evening
I have stayed regularly at Au Tonnelier over many years and have never been less than impressed with their appraoch to hotel-keeping. The buildings are carefully maintained and regularly decorated, the faclilities are up to date and the restaurant excellent and good value with an excellent breakfast. The staff have always been unfailingly polite and well trained. This is my go-to stop both coming and going from France as it's within an hour of ferry or Le Shuttle.
Very friendly and helpful staff; excellent value for money; good breakfast with a large variety of food choices; lovely town.
No shelves / wardrobes.
Hotel is located in a good location in the centre of town but quiet area. Had a nice dinner in the hotel restaurant. Good breakfast with plenty of choice.
The staff were very welcoming, free secure parking for the motorcycles, although there was always parking around the hotel.. The excellent food in the restaurant. We stayed for 5 nights to explore the area.A great choice of hotel. The room was comfortable and a nice size
Lovely quiet village centre location, view from our room to the old medieval looking building opposite, nice decor in the rooms and lovely shower
It is not so great that one has to open the front door with a PIN code when arriving after 8.30pm; We arrived about 9.40pm, and in my opinion, a hotel should have someone at reception until midnight. In any case, we were unfortunate: There was a power black-out in the whole town centre, and the electrics to open the door with the PIN did not work! So we felt trapped outside, and nobody answered the telephone, until someone answered our desperate voicemail one hour later! Thankfully, the electricity black out did not last too long, and the entry-pad for the front door of the hotel started working again after about 15 minutes of waiting around.
Perfectly located near the main square. Cosy hotel, well equipped room, good shower.
My fourth time staying here at Au Tonnelier. Rooms always very clean and comfortable. It's an excellent stop off point via the channel ferries and Bergues is a very interesting town.
Lovely large clean rooms, great shower, comfortable bed and pillows. Good view, electrically controlled blinds from bed. Bottled water on arrival in room and also coffee/ tea. Very quiet at night, great sleep. Free on street parking right in front of the hotel. Friendly staff, fantastic, immaculately decorated bar area.
Bar closed at 9pm.
This is the second time we’ve stayed at this hotel whilst cycling in North France with friends and family. The hotel is lovely inside with very comfortable rooms and great bathrooms which all seem to have been recently upgraded. Excellent staff who were very friendly and helpful with looking after our bikes. Felt lovely and French and the evening meal and breakfast was good too. Would recommend.
Nothing - was great.
We stayed two nichts in Bergues and had a lovely stay at the hotel. The room was nicely decorated and the bed was very comfy. We had breakfast twice and spent one nice evening at the restaurant. The hotel is perfectly situated and you can discover Bergues by foot. Both hotel and the village are definitely worth the journey. Last but not least, the hotel staff was very welcoming! Thank you very much.
