Cons -
- I arrived and the owners were not there and therefore I could not get a room. I had to scramble to find another room and paid way more.
- The WiFi was unreliable. One problem was a weak signal in the room. Another problem was routers or access points that would not allow connections, regardless of the strength of the signal. Dealing with WiFi problems wasted a lot of time.

The location and the view
Doesn’t feel like a hotel especially the bathroom and no standard stuff like tooth brush and the price is high compared to better hotels
Everything was amazing, the location, the room, the staff.
I’ve been a regular guest at this hotel for years and have always enjoyed my stays. The rooms are clean, nicely renovated, and offer a comfortable experience. Breakfast is decent, though the coffee is from a machine — not bad, but not exceptional either.
What really disappointed me this time, is the beach access policy. In the past, I was always able to stay at the beach until the afternoon, which made sense given the price of the room. This time, we were asked to leave the beach area by 2 PM, right when the sun finally came out and the weather cleared up. We ended up sitting in the car at noon, driving back, which felt unfair and unnecessary. For the price we paid, limiting beach access so strictly is very disappointing. I hope the management reconsiders this policy, especially for returning guests. A more flexible approach after check-out would go a long way in maintaining customer loyalty.
My room has a very large balcony. Beautiful hotel overlooking the lake. This hotel feels like many glacier hotel. Good breakfast though you have to walk quite far to grab food.
There was no air conditioner. This could be a problem during a heat wave. Not enough parking space but I was fortunate to have found one.
Where to start. First, the "apartment" is a unique room at this hotel. It is the entire upper floor over the boat garage, or boathouse. We arrived early, and the lady at the reception desk gladly welcomed us and escorted us across the street to the stand-alone boathouse and showed us around. The boathouse, as the name indicates, sits on the water - literally over the water. The apartment was built new last year, and it has many comfortable features, like heated floors in the bathroom and electric roller shutters for all the windows. But...all that only pales in comparison to the view from the full-width deck. Sitting over the water with absolutely no obstructions puts the stunning view from this place right at the top of our list of places we've stayed. The bed was super comfortable and there were many nice touches that made our stay very memorable. The breakfast was quite nice with cooked-to-order eggs and nice fresh pastries. It was also nice to have free parking, as well as a huge common deck with lots of lounge chairs. Everything about this hotel screams quality, and it was well worth the price.
The views from our balcony right onto the lake. The staff was fantastic. And the location not in the middle of town so it was quieter but you could still walk there in about 5 minutes.
Everything was great. Did not see any AC so wonder how it is in the summer with the heat. But the windows provided a lot of great ventilation.
Excellent location near to town centre and close to train station Schafbergbahn. Wonderful lake view from your room.Spacious and comfortable room with nice big bathroom.Excellent breakfast buffet with good choices of cold and hot dishes.Nice restaurant with good dinner menu.Staff very friendly and helpful
The hotel is closed after 10pm so when we arrived late the first evening there was no food or drink available at the hotel
The location directly at the lake with the view to the Alps from the terrace and the breakfast room was breath takingly beautiful. The privat beach entrance with terrace was gorgious and never crowded. Perfect.
Strandhotel Margaretha is a lovely traditional property with a great view! It is very well located for accessing the old cog train (which takes you to the mountain) and both ferries. Additionally, it is only 5-10 minute walk into the St. Wolfgang town and it’s an easy drive from Salzburg airport. Room was nicely furnished in a combination of eclectic and traditional style with plenty of storage space and separate bathroom, plus a separate space with wardrobe. Feels like certain rooms have had their bathrooms modernised, while ours was slightly old fashioned (not a major problem functionality wise). The best part of the hotel for summer guests is a private beach/dock well equipped with paddle boards, row boats, etc. for enjoying the lake. And bikes!
Hotel vibe is not quite "the design vibe" as advertised, more traditional style (nothing wrong with that). The lobby has not been updated as nicely as certain rooms. Common spaces are a bit dated, especially the ones taking you to the rooms in the back, and hallway carpets are in a desperate need of replacement. Elevator is not user friendly for all the floors. Breakfast is a bit boring, nothing wrong with the quality, but lacking in variety and imagination. Lastly, parking at the hotel itself was a true chaos! Not really something hotel can influence, but be aware of overprivileged Mercedes/BMW/Audi drivers taking over 2 parking spots for their precious cars.
Location, View, Friendly staff
The activities offered by the hotel were affected by the weather.
Lovely traditional property with a great view of the lake and very well located for the old cable car and ferry. It is a 5-10 minute walk into the town and is no hardship. Room was nicely furnished in an eclectic and traditional manner and our bathroom was slightly old fashioned but worked well. I believe other rooms have had their bathrooms modernised, but it was not a problem.Lovely breakfast with plenty of choice, both hot and cold and we had a good meal in the restaurant at night, which was also good value. Had a lovely sauna area with a relaxation room which we made use of one afternoon.Staff were always helpful and friendly and we would certainly stay here again.
Bathroom slightly old fashioned but really not much else to complain about.
The hotel restaurant over looks the lake, our room over looked the lake, the terrace over looks the lake and if you want to look closer they have a lovely deck next to the lake that you can swim from. The location is excellent. You can swim, rent bikes, walk, get the little foot ferry or tack the cog train all within flat easy walking. It’s an easy drive from Salzburg airport (approx an hour). The hotel has a sauna and a solarium you can relax in. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking- picturesque mountains and lakes - it really is like being on the set of The Sound of Music! I’m would recommend to friends and family and we are planning to return. For something really special the hotel has a separate self contained room actually on the lake.
Nothing - it exceeded our expectations.
Nice hotel, nice surroundings
A nice enough hotel, but it did not match with the photographs we saw. Sure, we had the lake view-if you looked close enough. It was more a parking view, really. A design hotel? Not quite. Not at all.
Great location overlooking the lake with private beach, lovely indoor and outdoor dining and bar area with great views, bikes available to borrow, short 10 min walk into the local town
Bedroom a little small, staff a bit surly, on one evening the Barman basically said I want to leave so you must too. This was at 10.30pm which seemed a little mean and he certainly didn’t say it with a smile on his face!
Unbeatable value. Views were absolutely amazing. The size of the rooms were very nice. We had a balcony that was very spacious as well. The hotel amenities made it even better- bikes, paddle boards, row boats. I cannot recommend this property enough.
The view
They did the check-in by placing me in a partial view room even though I booked a design room with a view. It takes me some time, and I should talk to the manager to accommodate me with the right room. Eventually, they gave me a room with a view, but I did not expect all of this headache while doing the check-in.
A great resort place, with free bicycles rental and private beach. The room is spacious and comfy, with a balcony facing the lake. Sitting there is one of the best things during the trip.
