About
This charming, red-brick building is set on the banks of the River Ebro, surrounded by a lush garden full of colorful flowers and palm trees. The Parador de Calahorra is housed in one of the most important historic buildings in the region of La Rioja. The local city of Calahorra is famous for its Roman background, and is built around a cathedral dating from Roman times. Stroll through the Parador and admire the large doorways, Christian artwork and other Medieval-style decor. Here you can relax by the fireplace with friends or family or head to the hotel’s restaurant. This charming venue serves characteristic Riojan dishes accompanied by the region’s world-famous wine.

Pros +
- This parador was easy to get to, and for us just a stopover on our way to Bilbao. The room was handicap accessible, great for my husband with limited mobility. It was huge and comfortable, great shower and large beds. Ability to Chromecast shows in English, etc. Very good stay for the price. Free parking is also nice.
- Good positionComfy bedsBeautiful Hotel, like all the Parador in Spain.
- Easy to get to secure parking . Big rooms
Cons -
- Nothing, it was great.
- A lot of noise coming from the rooms on top and floor was noisy. The wooden floor makes too much noise. We didn't sleep well. They asked us to book a precise hour for breakfast and dinner, saying that they were fully booked. When we explained that we couldn't give a precise hour for breakfast they told us that there was no problem because they were not fully booked. We didn't like how it was handled. On arrival after a long trip and after asking through Booking and by phone for 2 close rooms, we found out we were given distant rooms. They later gave us close rooms, specifying that we should have asked by phone. But we did already. Not a professional way to do business
- Breakfast was a bit chaotic, not enough staff.

Easy to get to secure parking . Big rooms
Breakfast was a bit chaotic, not enough staff.
There was a wide variety of food available for breakfast, many options to suit everyone and the food was always fresh. The location is great, in the middle of town, a short walk to restaurants and shops.
Location was great . Right in the middle of the town but easy to get back onto the motorway. Breakfast was very good and the room was comfortable.
The staff in the restaurant, when we had dinner, were obviously new and hadn't had much training. Our order was taken twice and then I didn't get the correct starter. The person who booked us in was very grumpy and we didn't get our free drink as a 'Paradore Amigo'
Good shower, decent breakfast, easy check in/out
Incredibly noisy hotel, possibly due to the wooden floors in the rooms.
We didn’t have breakfast but the restaurant was very good. A pleasant experience in a relaxed atmosphere. Like every other aspect of our stay exceptional value for money.
helpful staff, great location to enjoy the town, good food and service.
be good if more local information was available in the hotel
The supper was very good. Easy parking on the premises. Very nice staff. As always, the paradors never disappoint. Reasonable too. Recommended.
Hotel is a little tired, however staff are great, rooms are clean and location is OK.
Nothing all was fine.
Location, comfort, staff
Dual purpose dining room and breakfast room whilst two huge lounges seem unused.
Beautiful Spanish parador with history. Private parking which was secure in a quiet neighbourhood close to restaurants which we could walk to and close to a visit to Pamplona which was a bonus. The room was large, very comfortable with a peaceful aspect.
Would be great to have water and a facility to make a coffee or tea.
Car parking as long as the hotel wasn't busy. Restaurant was bright and service and food good.Breakfast was very good but the fact that cooked eggs were available was not made clear until our stay later in the week.
The decor is very drab, vases of flowers dotted about the public areas would help. The colour scheme is less than pleasing and the pictures are very dark. The whole hotel needs brightening up. Apart from the breakfast waiter on our second stay the waiters on dinner service need to smile more and look as if they are enjoying their work. There wasn't a coffee machine in the room which is not what you expect in this day and age.
Lovely old well maintained property.Very clean and a good location. The reception staff were lovely however the gentleman who was on reception duty the day we arrived went over and above what most people would do. He was so helpful with our parking. Thank you to him. I’m sorry I didn’t get his name.
The restaurant staff were ok but not impressive. I had Turbot which wasn’t good I would say it was a lunchtime leftover!!
A really beautiful authentic Parador. Easy to access from the motorway. Safe parking. I’d get there early to be sure of a space. A few restaurants around. Right next to a supermarket and a small shopping centre. Nice bar. Lovely artwork. It’s almost am extension of the Brittany Ferries queue. Everyone seemed to be coming from or going to the ferry. Not a bad thing. I’d ask for a room away from the lift as it was noisy. Lovely rooms with balcony style doors. Friendly staff. Not much to do or see in Calahorra. Great as a stopover or for touring the area.
The location was the prime concern as we were travelling by motorcycle from Southern Spain to the Santander ferry port in northern Spain and needed an overnight stop within a half day of Santander - this Parador met that requirement. The building was not an historic one - indeed, it was specifically built as a Parador in 1927 and so lacked any sense of history.
We have used Paradors many times in the past and have always been entirely satisfied, but the attitude of the management regarding the overnight parking of our 2 motorcycles this time was not logical, There were 2 couples on two motorcycles and we can easily park 2 motorcycles in a single car parking bay. However, because the Parador was busy that evening, we were asked to park our bikes in an awkward corner of the car park so that the car owners could be catered for!The evening meal was very good, but the waiter on our table came and cleared away the main course crockery and cutlery before one of our group had even finished his main course - this was compounded by the waiter handing out 4 menus for the dessert whilst one member of our group was still eating his main course. Attention to staff training appears to be lacking at this parador. We needed to make an early start the next morning to reach the Santander ferry terminal for a 13.00 hrs local time check-in. However, the earliest that the Parador would serve breakfast was 08.00 hrs and it was not possible to supply us with either an earlier continental breakfast or a packed breakfast. Consequently, we had to leave with no breakfast, despite the accommodation cost including breakfast. Some flexibility is required - I am sure that many travellers aiming for the northern Spain ferry ports use this parador as a convenient night stop, so presumably other travellers have experienced this problem.
Good location, free parking lot, nice staff.
The wooden floor is a bit noisy, squeaky noise at every step…
The traditional vibes, the location and the helpful staff.... Nice views from the room
Breakfast seemed expensive 19 euro each... supermarket and local bars/restaurants nearby walk
Beautiful hotel , immaculateVery comfortable bed and good quality linen
