- The restaurant for dinner isn't open every night. We didn't purchase the breakfast, so I can't rate it. It begins at 7:30 am and we had a train at 8am. It is literally a 5 min walk (although on the bike lane of the highway) to the castle. Which was a perfect afternoon activity. We didn't tour the interior rooms, but paid to take the "lift" which is an incline car to the castle. There is also a wooded trail. Highly recommend the castle and have a beer or Radler and pretzel in the courtyard. We did the ice caves in the early(ish) morning upon arrival from Salzburg. Then made our way to castle at 330pm. The hotel is no frills, but super clean, bed awesome (but maybe because we were dog-tired), and location good. St the hotel there is only a drink machine with water and some coke products - takes coins only. If you need something after or before market closes.
- Clean but rustic room. Walking distance to Hohenwerfen Castle and the town centre.
- This was a great hotel close to the castle and about 15 minutes from the train terminal..
Cons -
- The shower in our room was TINY. Like, can't bend to wash my feet tiny. Like, I wasn't sure i was going to fit in the small opening- tiny. But alas, I did. And I could have used a fan or some moving air... the window opened, but then we had a few little bugs pestering us. We had a room on the top floor, so m maybe lower is good? But it cooled off through the night. As a northerner, anything above 70F is warm to me. These thing would NOT prevent me from booking this place. It's lovely.
- The breakfast was too expensive so we didn't have it . Also there was no coffee or tea in the room.
- The staff was superficially nice, but not actually friendly. I have traveled for a living for over 45 years, and I know that sometimes people smile, but with disdain. Normally, if I don’t love a place, I just don’t leave a review. I figure it’s a one off. But, honestly, I just can’t recommend this place. The booking advertised a view from the rooms, but there wasn’t one. We had rooms right next to the check in desk, and the carpet was really dirty, although the rest of the room seemed clean enough. We stayed in Werfen last spring, at the Pension Weisses-Rossli, and loved it. I will stay there again next time, instead.

Really like the room - lots of comfortable space. Lovely view. Wonderful friendly staff. Easy to get into town and to hikes etc.
We stayed here overnight to visit the Ice Caves. Location was very convenient. Good breakfast - no complaints!
Location was good, staff are nice and the food was very good and for a reasonable price
Facilities are old and not really well taken care for, it is clean but all is a bit old fashioned and with a “hostel feeling” it wasnt BAD just not good
Friendly, super helpful staff. Most delicious local food in their hotel restaurant. Beautiful location right below the fort.
Expensive per night.
Excellent location for many activities (hiking, Hohenwerfen castle, ice cave, Salzburg, Hallein - Celtic museum, salt mine - , Grossglockner alpine road, Liechtensteinklamm...)The breakfast is very varied and for many tastes

The location was good - short distance from Werfen Castle and good location to ice caves.Room had enough space for family - facilities were clean. The staff were extremely helpful- somehow the information translated from Booking.com that we were travelling with 2 x 2yr olds - so they had gone to the effort of putting up a cot bed for us instead of risking a child in top bunk of bunk beds -So there were a few giggles when the 16 and 14 yr old arrived - they dealt with the room amendment flawlessly. We were able to leave our luggage and investigate while they sorted the room. We made them aware of allergies before arriving - and provided a separate basket of gluten free breads - and lactose free milk (although this wasn’t actually what my son could eat, we didn’t make a fuss and worked around it as we could see they were doing their best)
There was no air con so room was a bit stuffy with 4 of us.Unfortunately we had to find alternative arrangements for dinner and drinks in the evening- as the chef was on holiday the days we were there - this was a shame as we did have tired legs and we keen not to go far after a busy day. A little expensive for what is provided BUT appreciate demand is high in the area.
Our room was at the ground floor, there was comfortable despite the hot weather. It’s close to the castle
The room was clean and spacious with a beautiful side view of the mountains. The location was also great as the train station, riverbank, the Sound of Music trail, Hohenwerfen Castle, and the bus stop for the Ice Cave bus are all easily accessible/walkable within a 1 km walkable distance. The staff at the reception and at the restaurant were very kind and accommodating. The hairdryer in the room stopped working and the receptionist gave us an alternate hairdryer. The restaurant staff was also kind enough to give us a large glass full of ice free of charge to take to our room for drinks/water. Overall, we had an amazing experience staying at Werfenerhof!
Breakfast is a bit too expensive. Also would've appreciated an electric kettle for making tea or coffee in the room.
A nice clean room with a great view of the beautiful mountains. The accommodation has its own restaurant and parking space. It's just a few minutes walk from Hohenwerfen Castle.
The hotel is a friendly family hotel. Ideally located to visit the castle, Sound of Music Trail & Ice caves.Werfen is a friendly little town with plenty of places to eat and enjoy coffees. Would definitely book again if in the area.
Disappointed that the price didn't include breakfast. The room also had no coffee making facilities which now a days is standard.
A great location and clean room.
On arrival the receptionist spoke zero English. I don’t expect fluency but if you’re running a hotel you do need to have basic words to communicate with international guests. She wanted to charge me extra money but couldn’t explain what for, in the end I just paid it. We tried to ask about a bus to a big local attraction and she couldn’t understand enough to explain. I did not feel very welcome at all. We arrived on a Sunday and it was a hot day. We were not told buses didn’t run so had a hot 15 minute walk uphill with heavy rucksacks. Our en-suite smelt strongly of sewage. There are two large houses being built right next door. There’s a large crane which was swinging in the storm and a lot of noise from 7am so sleeping in was impossible. We should have been notified about this. There is also road noise as it’s right alongside the main road. This is to be expected though. I found ear plugs helped. Until these issues are resolved I wouldn’t recommend which is a shame as it’s a nice place otherwise.
The staff was nice, and the location was good
Quite expensive
Mountain view
Wifi week signal
The restaurant was great, especially the server from Croatia. Beautiful surroundings and plenty of parking. EV charger right by the hotel.
Noise from road, old school keys for the room.
Great location, comfortable room and bed. All you need for a short stay.
Breakfast is slightly overpriced for what's on offer, I am afraid.
Lovation is close to castle. Staff is helpful. Plrnty of parking. Fish dish is wonderful.
