Parador de Villafranca del Bierzo

Always enjoy the elevated hospitality at Parador. Bathrooms clean and big tub.

Paradors are often located in beautiful historical buildings. This location is fairly simple as it’s a converted factory and no elegance of a castle or anything!

We were hiking the Camino de Santiago and wanted somewhere nice to stay in Villafranca del Bierzo, so we opted for the Parador hotel as it looked like the best option. Unfortunately this Parador was very dated and soul-less. The breakfast quality was good although the dining room was just a room with no atmosphere. The room & bathroom was clean & comfortable but nothing to shout about here.

The photo of the pool on the website looks amazing but when we actually went for a swim, we were shocked at how small it was. It is so small it can only really hold 2 people max. The sauna was turned off and the showers by the pool area were not working. All in all a very disappointing experience and certainly not worth the Euros 172 that we paid for a double room with breakfast.

We arrived quite early and were able to get right into our room which made us very happy! Staff at the front desk were very helpful with directions into town and answering all of our questions. The restaurant was very good and we had excellent service all around.

The location is great and the ambience was even greater. It felt like a modern palace!

We walked for 25km looking forward to the pool but after we checked in and showered, we went down to the pool only to realize we missed it by a few minutes. Bad timing I suppose.

Large comfortable room well equipped. Excellent food and attentive service. Lovely views from the spa.

They advertised that they had an EV charger but it wasn’t working so we ended up having to drive to another village and wait for 2 hours while the car charged. This information should be clearly shared and updated on their website

Quiet, nice linens and pillows, plentiful hot water, good breakfast.

Expensive, and service not on a par with the expense. Minibar for water, etc, but no flat bottle of water even to buy. Internet only fair. When I came in for breakfast, a young server, told me that a table was taken. I took the table next to it, and that table never had anyone sit at it for the next hour. Not sure what that was about, but it seemed rude and unnecessary to me.

If you don’t want to eat on premise, it’s a 1k walk to Plaza Mayor.

Easy to find, good parking.

Outdoor pool closed, which we were not aware of. Air con did not work in one of our rooms. Not enough reception staff to cope with queries.

We booked this accommodation for the outside pool but on arriving it was empty. The inside pool was small and extremely cold.

Well, for a Parador I would had expect to have a spa warm ( instead of freezing cold) and a Sauna ready to use instead of having to ask to turn it on. Food was average and expensive

Nice big room

Could not have dinner until 8:30 and the dining room looked sterile and very clinical. Not expecting that in a Parador.

We left before breakfast. The room was spacious and comfortable. The minibar was appreciated. It had a bathtub!

Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Pool a little small but nice to relax in after a day walking the Camino also had a nice sauna

Would have been nice to have some complimentary water in rooms as was provided in other accommodation during our walk

Dinner was only served from 8:30pm (which I knew) but when we arrived there was a coach tour in and we were told we couldn't have dinner until 9:30 as a result. We declined and ate a picnic in our room instead. Not impressed. This happened at another Parador as well on the same trip.
