Pros +
- Beautiful view, centrally located, good free breakfast buffet, quiet
- A walk into ancient history complete with antique furnishings, exceptional access to the historic city center, and great views onto the Rhine. Well worth the extra few Francs for the river view.
- Being on the river. The room was very nice.
Cons -
- No screens on windows so could not leave open for fresh air
- We had a room over the dining area so it was noisy until 11pm.
- Note: We were driving, and the hotel has no parking. However, there are public paid parking available, and it's a short walk from the various public parking locations to the hotel.

Lovely place for a family of four easy on and off for public transit
The location is outstanding, right on the river in Stein am Rhein. We were there on a hot Summer day, and there is no air conditioning, but opening the windows on the river side was a delightful substitute for air conditioning (although room air conditioners would be a highly recommended addition to what were outstanding rooms - we were on the 3rd floor, on the river side). The rooms were large and with excellent beds and bathrooms. The restaurant is also excellent.Highly recommended.

Lovely old building right on the river, great parking for our bikes, air conditioning was a bonus, bed was comfy. Hotel is a mix of old and new, bathroom was modern and worked beautifully. Very nice location
Location on the river Rhine, good breakfast and coffee
Parking was inconvenient
Right on the river, right in the town, right near bars and restaurants.
We liked our room, even though it was the old type of furniture. It was unique and felt like old Europe. Our room looked out at the Rhine and who could ask for more.!! Our waitress at night was Nadya and she was amazing. Made dinner a whole entire experience. Fabulous. Eating on the deck and looking at the Rhine was perfect.
Breakfast was not good. We got up at 7:30 breakfast started at seven. There was some cheese and cold cuts out. Coffee was brought to us. There were no eggs and we asked the waitress about it. She was not happy. She went and got us some soft boiled ones, but her attitude was not nice.
It’s a beautiful building, with many original features and a museum on level 1. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable and the view was beautiful. It’s very central and we walked to the local Christmas markets which turned out to be one of the best ( and least crowded) we’d been to in the many towns we had stayed at in Germany. The staff were very friendly. It was a little unusual that the day after we arrived, it was the staff’s day off and so we were entrusted with the key to the hotel… it was very convenient for us, and we didn’t mind- just glad the staff trusted us!
Charming, traditional building, which is in the heart of Stein am Rhein, and also within walking distance of the railway station (under 10 minutes). The room was very clean with a lovely view over the river, the heating was efficient and the bed was comfortable. There was a fridge and also a hair dryer. The breakfast was good, and the staff were kind and helpful.
It sometimes took a while for the hot water to come through. The room lacked sockets - in fact, the only one I could find near the bed was unusable as the plug kept falling out of it, meaning I had to charge my phone in the bathroom. However, these were minor points, and I enjoyed my stay there and would definitely stay again.
Very traditional family run hotel in quaint little Sten Am Rhein. River view from our room was exceptional. Family is involved all the time and always around.
1. 2 lights were not working. 1 bedside lamp + 1 main floor lamp. Should have informed them but slipped my mind.2. the lift was very jerky just before it opened on any floor and really shook our heads around
The hotel is located in the historical centre of Stein am Rhein (Old town) about 50m from the central square. The hotel building is perhaps 5-600 years old and the top floor room was accessible by elevator. The room was very spacious and had views over the Rhine which is immediately adjacent the hotel. We arrived by river boat and walked about 200m on the flat. Breakfast was included and service was very good. We did not use the hotel restaurant for other meals but it looked good. The room was large, comfortable and enjoyed ancient building charm with practical modern windows and excellent modern bathroom. It is essential to visit the Monastery/Museum which is a few metres from the front door of the hotel.
I like a kettle in the room.
Location was great. Spacious room. Quite a unique experience as it’s like staying in a museum. The hotel and restaurant staff were very friendly.
Floor was a bit creeky.
I came all along from Italy with a friend, it was a rainy evening, constructions on the road so we arrived late!the hotel was closed, there was no answer for the bell or the phone, we tried to open the key box and didn’t worked, we waited for 40 minutes & after that we drove for 30 minutes to find a self check in hotel for the night !It was a very disappointing moment we were very tired after along driving, no one on the road, there was a sign on the door said “ for chick in call this number” but no one answer!I have been in many hotels in many countries, if I didn’t arrive in time for some reason, there’s always an instruction what to do or where to find key.. very disappointing!
Everything was comfortable, clean, and topnotch. Especially loved how old it was and well preserved yet with modern amenities and updates in the rooms.
The location in a historic building along the Rhine river in old town was superb! The staff was friendly and welcoming. Dinner was delicious. We were able to park across the street for a couple of hours and there is another lot nearby as well. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was pretty standard, eggs made to order. Everything was fresh and stocked. Highly recommended!
The room, the location and the excellent breakfast.
Great location, beautiful view, good breakfast and kind staff
Very pretty old building in great location, right on the Rhine. Very convenient for old centre of Stein am Rhein. Attractive, beamed rooms with modern bathrooms, and lots of antique artefacts in public areas.
Arrived by bike in torrential rain, soaked to skin to find hotel closed until 16.00. Had to seek shelter elsewhere for an hour. Odd for a 3 star hotel. Breakfast buffet was meagre and underwhelming compared to other hotels. Hotel restaurant expensive.
