Cons -

  • Had to go to front desk 6 times because things didn’t work or they had not prepared the room. Room phone did not work and the local number they gave me to contact the hotel on my cell bounced to corporate line. AC was not on so room was not cool. Figuring out AC was complicated. It was not even on when we walked into the room. There was also no instructions on how to use AC. I told the front desk the AC wasn’t cooling after 30 min and they told me to wait another 30 minutes. Now I already had felt the air coming out and it was warm. To get to the pool we had to use our room card. That did not open pool gate. We went up again and told them that. They then later that evening brought us two new key cards. The next day we tried them and again they did not work, so again had to go to front desk to get new key cards. They did not offer us any compensation in we had to go to front desk 6 times in our 2 night stay to solve problems. Also no instructions on how to use the smart tv as it was in a different language then we spoke.I would go back as it was a beautiful place, but they need to improve protocols and be clear of not putting guest off by telling them to wait.
  • Bathroom must be upgraded
  • limited food options, no pool service, no coctail hour atmosphere

Breakfast was excellent. While the facility was very clean the rooms were shabby and could use some renovations.

Nice location

Only hotel restaurant available when we visited, set menu no good for us, hiked up the hill to find local eatery , dark room, beds not the best

The resort was very pretty. Loved how green it was. Also a good breakfast with many options. Pool area also very nice.

By no means a 4 star hotel. Double bed was small, not even 1.40m. Matras extremely uncomfortable and beds old and creaky. Mold in the bathroom. Elevator out of order. We didnt pay a lot for the room, but if I had known it would be like this I wouldnt have booked it. Expected more from the pictures.

Not a four stars anymore. Rooms are small and old. The one on the web are the suits only

Disappointed

Upon arriving informed the lifts not working (traveling with elderly parents one with restricted walking ability, who then had a choice of upstairs or downstairs for their room). Also phone from room to reception not working. Not enough information about food available on site before you get there, The bar should have had a tapas menu, they only serve drinks, the restaurant had a choice of two meals, steak or hake, both which came over cooked. Bedrooms very tired, window frames rotting out, lots of bits of rust and chipped tiles in bathrooms, toilet seat loose. Had asked for rooms to be near each other, my elderly parents were on the 1st floor we were on the 3rd floor.

It is good if you know about this when it is av hotel based on thermals. We received the information just before checked in (and after leaving!):"We inform you that due to improvements to the Thermal Hotel in the Villa Termal resort of Caldas de Monchique, and because it is considered that the ideal conditions for the operation of the Spa will not be met, due to noise and various movements in the surroundings, we have been forced to temporarily close the thermal facilities for an indefinite period."

Beautiful setting and garden!

We were warned that the accommodation would not meet their standards due to renovation. What they did not mention was the lockin: 1 restaurant was opened (1 fish or meat choice) the other restaurants were closed, there was only 1 bar to get a drink but it closes at 18:00 and thats it. Despite the really beautiful walks you can make in the area, there’s nothing left here to do than go to sleep very early.

Lovely location. Great hotel complex.Food was good and service excellent.Value was outstanding because I suspect it was ‘out of season’ prices.Recommended definitely!

Our room was quite dated, the dinner restaurant was a bit like a school dinner hall and the evening meal was very poor. Set menu of 2 choices, and the steak was inedible.

Beautiful surroundings and nice room. Interesting building and gardens.Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice breakfast

Nothing seemed to work properly. Waste water didn't drain properly in bathroom. Bar was closed. Internet stopped working for a while.

Restored historical buildings in a beautiful location Peaceful

Having recently suffered from a stroke, there weren’t any hand rails o walk ways and steps. The lift was more often stuck on a floor, or was not operating. The spa and thermal pool was closed disappointingly.there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the bedroom. We were however offered a kettle, but no cups or milk etc, for a 4 star hotel, I would have considered this to be a basic amenity No electric sockets by the bedside table to charge our phones either, again offered an extension cord, to facilitate charging our phones. Such an overall pity,

Calm, beautiful gardens

SPA was closed

breakfast was nice, view amazing. room was clean and semi modern, nice little balcony out to the front. staff was friendly. bed a bit hard, bath a little small but overall was lovely, like stepping back in time to 1930s, old glorious spas. the gardens and outdoor pools were amazing, timeless, classy, but it was winter so i did not swim. prices for thermal pool were good but after looking for it and 300 steps I gave up. But a lovely little get away in winter at affordable prices.

The location was great. On arrival at the nice modern hotel we were told that we would have to stay in the old annexe as we had our dog with us.A delicious breakfast supervised by a very pleasant young waiter.

The first room that we were put in was south facing and had a nice bath. Unfortunately the heating would not work and we were transferred to a north facing room on the ground floor. The heating worked but the room smelled of sewerage and had no bath! There were no pictures on the walls and the room was painted in a depressing grey colour. Never mind, it was just for one night. I had an awful night as the mattress was SO uncomfortable. I thought of sleeping in the car at one stage during the very long night. The room had the smallest tv that I have ever seen and it could not be viewed.

The staff was friendly and the hotel is in a peaceful location.

It would have been nice to have a kettle and tea in the room and better shower products. Unfortunately the refrigerator wasn’t working very well.
