Great room overlooking the gorge. Spacious balcony with outdoor furniture. VERY comfortable bed. Large room and large luxurious bathroom. Mini-bar fridge in cupboard and good hanging space. Lots of on-site free parking (but it was out of season). Breakfast was included and it was simple but perfectly OK.
Tea / coffee maker in rooms would really elevate the experience. Maybe even some herbal teas!
The location of the hotel is nice, monchique is a great place. Breakfast was good with crepes, cake, bread for toasts, and the typical hot options.
We decided to stay for two nights to take advantage of the spa, although a few days before, the hotel informed us that the spa was closed. We had booked without cancellation, so that was it for us. By the time we arrived at the hotel to check in, a colleague suggested we check if compensation was possible. The next morning, we went to reception, and the hotel management was contacted. We were told that no compensation was due because we did not book a spa package. However, we booked two nights so that we could use the spa all Monday. It is, at best, naive of the management to think that someone would stay there for anything other than the spa. The hotel itself is average and overpriced without the facilities. (2) The administration also informed us that we could have canceled, although this was never mentioned in messages from the hotel. The worst part was the administration's confrontational attitude during the conversation, instead of an apologetic one. We did not expect a free night or anything similar, but since we had each booked a massage, the least they could have offered was a discount.. Also worth mentioning, the second breakfast on Monday morning included white bread hard enough to break someone's head and a "natural" orange juice to which someone added sparkling drink.
Very nice room with balcony and a huge bathroom. Very comfortable beds. Friendly staff. The room was very low cost because the spa is closed for renovations. Meals in the evening were limited but acceptable given the time of year.
If you have limited mobility, the shower in the bath could be a problem. It’s quite high and the bath is enclosed by the glass screen with a sliding door. There are no grab rails.
The shower in the room was excellent. The breakfast was very good and the salmon dinner was good too.
The thermal spa was not as good as I anticipated. Steam room and pool were barely warm.
Marcel who checked us in was very professional, kind and helpful; he went out of his way to make sure we knew where everything was and that we were well taken care of! Thank you for the great service at your beautiful resort!
Our shower drain was slow to empty.
Idyllic location
The bathroom needs updating particularly the fact that the shower is directed towards the window, which gets wet and mouldy.
location
furniture by the pool and on our balcony was very grubby
Enjoyed the Spa and the grounds of the Hotel. Quiet area for a relaxing break.
No designated parking which could be a problem in the high season.
Disappointingly average hotel and not value fir money.
Generally average for what is advertised as a four star hotel. The hotel is spread out over a large area with rooms in separate buildings. When you arrive there is little or no direction or signage to check in. The breakfast was very poor for a hotel with this rating. A limited choice and terrible machine coffee. On my first night I arrived at 9pm and was told the restaurant was open till 9.30pm but if I wanted something to eat I had to go directly without checking in to my room, which was in another building. Parking is also very limited.
Beautiful location. Clean and comfortable room. Very good buffet breakfast.
Nothing at this price.
Lovely location in the mountains. Pool area is amazing!
Breakfast is not good and aircondition in the rooms are very old and ineffective
We either were very lucky, or we paid more than other guests. We were placed in the suite. Everything you wanted was in there. So clean too! Ok, you had to walk 70 metres to the restaurant for dinner and breakfast, but sat outside in the huge courtyard, being entertained by an excellent guitarist/singer was a most relaxing way to order your after dinner drinks to. Dinner menu slightly limited but buffet breakfast was everything you could imagine.
So many hotels had similar names making a stranger to Caldas de Monchique slightly perplexed. Nobody's fault, of course!
Breakfast okRoom excellent Restaurant ok but not too often Local restaurant good Village atmosphere
Poor furniture on balcony Restaurant menu limited Spa very tired
A nice location if you are reasonably fit
Breakfast was not served in the Hotel but in a separate Restaurant, which serves 3 hotels, a short walk away. There appeared to be little sound proofing in the hotel as we could hear the people staying in the rooms either side of us.
The view and the location.
No breakfast room in the hotel z need to street walk till the main restaurant. Unpleasant.
Breakfast was adequate, the room excellent, bathroom ok . View from room lovely, pool area very good,
Spa disappointing rather tired and drabRestaurant menu limited, dining room lacks atmosphere
The breakfast was satisfactory. The morning walk to the restaurant for breakfast was energizing.
Many things.1. To find the hotel is not easy as its one of four hotels in one complex, with one of them is under refurbishment. Guess what, this is the hotel that I thought was the one I booked so had to eventually carry my luggage and walk half a kilometer to reach the right one.2. The reception at Pure hotel is not manned. So if you need anything you need to walk to a neighbouring hotel.3. What follows from '2' above is my constant worry of getting stuck in the lift knowing there is absolutely no one at the reception to assist in such emergency.4. This is a 4-star hotel but there was no tissue box in the room which is unusual, much less coffee and tea sachets with a percolator to prepare a cup should you feel like one.5. The TV set was so small (less than 30 inch) and the satellite reception was bad.6. No magnifying mirror in the bathroom to allow elderly people to have a safe shave.7. The towel rack over the bathtub is placed so low to the point that it obstructs the users from safely entering or leaving the bathtub glass enclosure.8. I booked a room with a large bed but was given one with a twin bed.9. Although I paid for an above standard room, but the view from the small corner terrace door was barely similar to what the hotel shows on its website.
