Pros +
- It was a different experience given the nostalgic style of the hotel, but it was a very positive one! The showers and bathrooms are very well equipped and clean, the rooms were cozy, and the restaurant was very convenient. I can only recommend the homemade tomato soup. They even packed a sandwich for me since I'd leave very early to hike and therefore skip breakfast. The staff was really attentive.
- The showers were really clean and comfortableBreakfast was nice and consisted of local produce
- I liked absolutely everything. The staff don’t speak much English, but I don’t speak much German and they are willing to pantomime until everything works out. The views are amazing. The building is amazing. The showers are amazing. The meatloaf was amazing. The idea of meatloaf is amazing. They have beer there.
Cons -
- Everything is out of wood, so embrace some squeaking from the wooden floor whenever you walk. Minor thing, but you might want to wear something to cover your ears if you're sensitive to sleep and other guests wake up early.
- You can hear all the other people across the floorThere was no way to lock the room
- I read reviews that said the building is too creaky or too drafty. The building is old, dummy. All that authenticity you say you want on your instagram profile will occasionally lead to drafty rooms and creaky floors. My least favorite thing is that this place deserves a perfect five star rating and you fragile influencers forgot your headphones and screwed it up for all of us. 5/5, no complaints except that I couldn’t order All You Can Eat Meatloaf.

Very helpful staffGreat foodClean facilities
-Squeaky sound of the floor, bed and door which are very disturbant to nearby rooms and people-Menu should have English translatation
This was by far the best hotel I stayed in on my latest Alpine trek. I was given a very warm welcome (in unseasonably cold September weather!) and had a fantastic evening with good company, eating and drinking local food and beer. My room was lovely with a very rustic feel (everything seemed to be made of wood!), and the following morning’s breakfast featured freshly baked bread and honey straight from the hive tray. The two staff members I met were also helpful and friendly throughout my stay. Oh and the location is sensational!
Lovely heritage building, full of character, dinner was delicious. Staff were all lovely.
Be aware, as it is a very old building, the house creaks - just adds to the vibe!
This hotel is peaceful and private in the quiet Kiental region. We had a very comfortable sleep and the place is kept very clean. The shared toilet and communal showers are very nice, private and surprisingly modern despite being shared. Breakfast provided is adequate, and had nice touches of freshly baked bread and honey straight from the honeycomb. Dinner was good, though note that it is fairly expensive and there are very limited options if you do not dine at the restaurant.
The main con is no charging ports in the rooms - you have to go into the hall and plug in near the shared sink. As other reviews have mentioned, as it is an old and traditional building, it is very creaky and you can hear other guests easily.
Really historic building, "dans son jus" as we say in French. Great welcome, immediately at ease.
Historic building means the acoustic is not great. Every move (own or from others) makes some noise.
What a perfect, traditional hotel! The setting is beautiful, and I loved sitting outside with a drink in the evening. The food was delicious (I recommend messaging them to add on half board if it's not an option through Booking.com). The shared shower rooms worked surprisingly well, and the showers were fantastic for such an old property. I loved the atmosphere of the hotel, would definitely stay again.
I didn't mind it but if you're sensitive to noise, bear in mind the floorboards are very creaky as it's such an old hotel. The beds are quite short too and have a footboard in the single rooms so if you're tall it could be a problem.
Firstly, the atmosphere of this place is amazing! It's nestled in Pochtenalp, surrounded by greenery on all sides. There's nothing better than having your morning coffee while breathing the fresh air and sitting outside. Secondly, the food was fantastic - both dinner & breakfast - you could tell everything was handmade. Finally, the showers are amazing, and the heated floors in the bathroom make it even better!
The wifi signal was very weak in our room and many times I didn't have any wifi signal. LTE and mobile data is not available. But it was a good detox!
The most special place and the view x
The drive to the property by car is tricky / the highest mountain bus pass
The beds were super comfortable, and the breakfast was amazing. We especially enjoyed the fresh honeycomb right out of the frame! The shared shower and bathroom facilities were very clean and nice. The staff was very friendly and worked with us to communicate well despite our limited knowledge of Swiss German.
We had some confusion about our options for dinner that we were unable to figure out due to a language barrier. We weren't aware that half pension was an option for hotel guests, so we ended up having to order from the menu when we would have enjoyed the set meal. If this option could be better communicated to guests at check in, that would be helpful!
Such a cute and unique place to stay! Wasn’t expecting it to be that authentic when I booked. The staff were super friendly and helpful too
Bring earplugs - since it’s a historic wood building you hear everything happening in the whole building
Beautiful location, fantastic food, very helpful staff, lots of novelty; we would definitely return there.
No plug sockets in some bedrooms.
Location was great, clean shared bathrooms, towels and bedding were provided
Politely asked the manager if we could eat our own food (i.e. picnic outside) on the table in the grounds. He refused and aggressively told us we had to go to our rooms to eat. Beds were v uncomfortable and the whole building creaked so everything someone moved, we were woken up
Very good location with a nice view of a waterfall (in June), exceptionally clean, the shared toilets and bathroom could be a standard for any other ones I stayed in. Old historical hotel in a non touristy area. Very good destination if you want to travel unwind in a quiet and picturesque place. Be aware that not all personnel can speak English, but they anyway were very nice and did their best, thank you for that!
It's not really bad, but be aware that: there is no mobile, connection and supermarket in the area. The WiFi was only available in the common area. Sockets are only in the hall too. Also, the mattress was too solid for me, but that's what you expect from a mountain hotel
the history & the unique area that the hotel is in , the staff wonderful & the food was great- we loved the lunch they packed the next day - yum. wished we could have stayed longer.
nil
the setting is spectacular, if you’re looking for a remote place to wind down. mountains, waterfalls and green hills.staff is all very professional and friendly.rooms are cozy and rustic.I’m not a fan of shared bathrooms but here it was really okay, very clean and new
nothing I didn’t like, but maybe a heads up:it gets quite cold at night, so additional warm clothes are recommended.house is very old so you can hear every move; if you have a light sleep, oropax might be a good thing to bring.
The view from property was nice.
The shared bathrooms were not clean. The twin room that we got was very congested and not comfortable. We requested a first floor room as my old mother struggled with 2 flights of old staircases, but this was not possible.
The location is super great, waterfalls were nearby, very cozy hotel with delicious food in the restaurant
Absence of sockets in the room, so you couldn't even charge your devices, but maybe for somebody, it could be a plus)))))
