- Deeply Disappointing Experience — Unprofessional and Offensive Behavior by the OwnerWe booked Historisches Hotel Bären for four nights, seeking a quiet, scenic, and restful stay. The hotel’s historic charm and mountain views initially attracted us. After a three-hour drive through mountainous roads, we arrived around noon, aware that check-in was at 3:00 p.m., but since the property operates on a self-check-in basis, we hoped to check in a bit early or at least register our car for parking.Unfortunately, our arrival experience was extremely unpleasant. The owner, Urs, entered the lobby while we were trying to sort out parking payment issues due to weak mobile signal (we were traveling on an international network). Instead of offering assistance or understanding, he raised his voice, accusing us of trying to avoid paying for parking, and ordered us to leave the property until 3:00 p.m.The situation escalated when he made racially insensitive and derogatory remarks, including asking if we were Arab and later making an extremely offensive comment about whether we “knew how to use a toilet.” Such behavior is completely unacceptable, unprofessional, and contrary to the values of hospitality. Despite expressing that his remarks were deeply offensive, he showed no remorse or willingness to apologize. As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry for decades and stayed in hundreds of hotels worldwide, I have never felt compelled to write a negative review — but this incident warrants one. It was a shocking departure from the professionalism and warmth typically associated with Swiss hospitality.Regarding the property itself:The hotel does retain a historic look and offers beautiful mountain views, but it feels tired and neglected. Our room was relatively clean, though the floors creaked noticeably, and furnishings felt basic and dated. There was no wardrobe, just a small wooden rack with two hangers. Bathroom amenities were minimal — only hand soap by the

Deeply Disappointing Experience — Unprofessional and Offensive Behaviour by the OwnerOn the positive note, the breakfast was excellent, offering a good selection of cold cuts, cheese, cereals, juices, and very good coffee (though my cup was chipped). The breakfast staff, unlike the owner, were gracious, polite, and professional — the true bright spot of our stay.

The bed not comfortable and shower was blocked and the stuff was unfriendly I checked out a day before my stay was done to check to another hotel no restaurant near by no shopping or such though I payer an expensive room at most I'll never recommend no one and coffe set had a Brocken
Being in the hottube under the rain/snow was a great experience.Breakfeast was a buffet with nearly everything you could wished.
Nice location up in the mountains, surrounded by alps. Elevator up to the 3rd floor. Nice breakfast included.
No restaurant in town. We did not have a car so brought a picnic dinner to eat. Staff tried to charge us for parking, couldn’t believe we didn’t have a car. Our room was on the 4th floor and seemed like it wasn’t quite finished. Furnishings were very old-fashioned.
Old world hotel from 1895. Charming. Superb breakfast. Beautiful small village with hiking trails. Onsite parking. Helpful staff. Excellent bakery across the street from the hotel.
Lack of restaurants in town. Hotel rooms were good. Apartment across the street lacked adequate lighting on the stairs and needs other updates.
Location with beautiful scenery and peaceful!
Actually very minor but during checkout, person wanted to charge twice for parking as I tried to explain that the couple we were with paid for the parking. We were right there together during checkout
We had a pleasant stay at the Historisches Hotel Bären, located at a good spot to explore the region and its main activities. The interesting interior made it an experience, while the included breakfast was fine to start the day properly.
that was clean.
There was no shampoo in the bathroom, I have never seen a hotel without toiletries, you had to pay extra to change towels and sheets. The bed mattress was very uncomfortable. We got back pain.
Our room was one with mountain view’s from our balcony with a jacuzzi, which we very much enjoyed during our 5 night stay. The included breakfast was very good, as well as the provided kettle in our room for making coffee and meals. Location! So quiet and serene. Very close to hiking trails and the bus stop as well as a little post office/convenience store.
The restaurant being closed - was tricking planning dinner in the evenings since there is no other restaurant close by and the bus has limited hours in the evening. (Not an issue if you have your own transportation, but we did not.)The charge for fresh towels/sheets - because we stayed for 5 nights, new towels would have been nice after a few days. Our shower head’s hardware was faulty and it would not stay up/would drop down to waist level. Also, no shampoo/body wash provided.
We got the room with the private hot tub and it was AMAZING !
The location was super far. There’s a bus to in town but it stops running at 6pm so we got a car.
Beautiful views, easy check in, great breakfast and a beautiful design of the hotel
Clean very well.Good location if you like nature but far away from the centrum.Breakfast is enough.
Pillows, blanket and bed are not comfortable. Especially blanket is disturbing.I demanded a basic adaptor to charge my PC as to use one-time. The hotel sold me this adaptor which I borrowed at every hotel without cost. It was so disturbing.
Good location which has an amazing view of the mountains, our room was cleaned everyday, they also have great breakfast with affordable price.
Beautiful location and lovely room. Had hot tub on balcony so never going to complain about that. Parking on site and good breakfast.
Never saw a member of staff at all during the stay. Keys collected on trust. Bar/restaurant onsite not open and nowhere nearby to eat. Bit disappointing.
Amazing!!One of the best hotel breakfasts I've tried outside of Brazil. When I booked the room I was already excited about the jacuzzi on the balcony, but I didn't imagine it would be so wonderful relaxing with the view of the mountain and we were also lucky that the sky was clear at night, which gave us the view of the most starry sky I've seen. When we left we already missed the hotel. I will recommend it to everyone I know.
Great view, silent and cozy. Great food, fresh air.
Location and view was great.
Room (bathroom) had a strange smell. It was not a lavatory smell. More like some kind of material which was smelling/stinking. No real service. No receptionist/reception behind the desk.
