Pros +
- Absolutely beautiful location in the Swiss alps! Just beyond the hotel there are so many unimaginable hiking opportunities! The hotel is comprised of three primary buildings and all are of the traditional Swiss design. Breakfast (included) is in the main restaurant and is very good but it would be nice to see them change it up a bit each morning. It was the same fare every day. Dinner is good but rather pricey.
- A clean bed to sleep in
- Great view from the hotel, the spa is cool
Cons -
- One serious complaint: I booked four nights and was presented the total price. Later, after I booked, I was informed that there was a mistype and that I had not been offered the proper total amount. My opinion is that, once presented with a price, the customer shouldn't have to pay more. The error should have been absorbed by the venue or Booking.com (dependent on who made the error). But, as this was a special occasion, I negotiated. The issue was resolved (not to my liking) by my paying the amount of their error. But I was not required to pay the pet fee for my dog. Ultimately, I still absorbed most of their error. This was my second stay at Griesalp. On the first occasion, I suggested that they provide better chairs or at least a seat cushion for the chairs. In that room, and on this visit, there were only uncomfortable, old, small wooden chairs without cushions. The only other option was to sit on the bed. For the price of this venue, that's not much to ask.The host/manager was very efficient but rather abrupt in our dealings with her.
- We were caught in a thunderstorm hiking to this property. by the time we arrived, it was 730. We were freezing cold and exhausted from our hike. We went to the reception, which was empty, and after wandering around briefly in the parking lot, we ran into a man who seemed to have some sort of managerial or staff role in the running of the hotel. After explaining that we couldn’t check in, he went in and found somebody to help us. The man who helped us was extremely short with us and appeared to be very inconvenienced by the fact that we existed. The same man later tried to take my friends dinner played away before she was done eating, and instead of just accepting that she was not done and letting her be, he proceeded to give her a table manners lesson about placing her utensils on her plate to signal whether or not she was done with her food. The lack of empathy, awareness, and hospitality on the part of the staff at this hotel was sort of shocking. I am not sure if it was because we are American, because I did view a few large parties that were American and they seemed to be being treated relatively well. it was difficult for us to get service while in the hotel, partially because the hotel is very busy and by the admission of the manager that we met in the parking lot, the hotel itself is quite understaffed, at least, it seems, with regards to front of house personnel.
- The superior room turned out to be smelly, small and my husband has hit his head against the roof many times as it was an attic room. It was also old-fasioned.We got a fondue for dinner that was full of alcohol and undercooked. Worst I have ever had. Tap water got dirty overnight and there was no information it could not be drinkable in the room. The device overall does not care, or is just slow. Overpriced for the level of service we got.

Quiet hamlet with just a few buildings. We had a lovely room with a huge bath that we took advantage of after hiking all day. Our view from our balcony was beautiful. We slept with the windows opened and the bed was comfortable. The staff was very pleasant. This was one of our favorite stays on the Via Alpina trek.
Perhaps provide a fan?
Moutain view.
only one problem i was faced that not avaiable transport.need more comfortable regular transport.
Very good location of the hotel and very beautiful winter area, the staff at the reception and in the restaurant are very friendly. We really enjoyed our holiday
Beautiful location, very comfortable rooms.Friendly & informative staff. Spa/sauna a bonus.
Being end of season dinners & breakfast were across the road (ie hotels consolidating into one place); not ideal but not overly inconvenient either. Good breakfast though.
Great location for the walk I was doing, room was perfect size with ensuite shower room. Breakfast had good buffet selection. Staff managed to fit me in for dinner although I hadn't booked in advance. Place had a friendly atmosphere
Blackout curtains would have been good but it wasn't too bright early in morning. Would have been nice to have a kettle in room.
This is an iconic establishment in a unique location, which was perfect for me walking the Via Alpina. The facilities are very good. Evening meal and breakfast of high standard.
It would have helped me to have the menus in English.
More modern than I expected : excellent dinner and breakfast : very helpful and sociable staff : great jumping off point for the Hohturli and Sefinenfurgge passes
No bath tub to ease aching joints
The hotel is in a little hamlet. It was great to spend the night there while hiking the Via Alpina. The staff was really nice and friendly and the breakfast was great. There are no other dinner options there, so we also had dinner there, which we enjoyed very much. On the whole, it was a great experience.
We had no complaints.
Nice clean room in one of the small houses ( not the main one), restaurant for dinner ok even when small choice to choose from.
Lady at the reception was totally incapable to make check in/check out, we waited long, she was fully incapable to handle more then 2 people with the same info at the same time. Breakfast was supposed to be served at 7.45, still at 8 the lady in the breakfast room was tidying and lightning the candles instead of preparing food. We were in hurry to catch the bus at 8.40 due to this we very super in hurry( together with check out of 10 min even when all was paid via booking)
Perfect location to start wandering that area. Attentive staff.
Breakfast : no "pain au chocolat", no birchermüsli (had to prepare it myself), scrambled eggs were with milk.
Nice location
They change the menu in the evening, We expected something simple like a Röschti or a Croute after our hike. It was not available for dinner and the staff was not very nice about it. Only "fancy" and expensive dishes available. There's a more relaxed place 15 min walk down the road.
I enjoyed the quiet setting of the Griesalp! The staff was friendly and helpful! The restaurant and staff were outstanding! The food was delicious! My cabin was small but very clean, modern and comfortable!
Unfortunately, the computer system crashed immediately prior to our arrival. It was impossible for the manager to place several members of our party for what seemed like a long time.
We were upgraded to an amazing room due to a computer error. The owner was so amazing and kind. We had 2 rooms and they were clean and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. The trails surrounding the property were gorgeous! 10/10 recommend. Very special place!
Perfect overnight stay on the Via Alpina hike. Great hotel, good restaurant and friendly hosts.
Bad
"Guest to the house, god to the house"So, this is is not the case with this hotel !The owner is a hostile and evil person. She ignored our problem with the extra-bed the first day and yelled at us (in front of my kids) the second day!Madame, we may have different opinions on the issue, but yelling at guests in a hotel is unbelievable! You should do something else without contact with people if you don't like them !I think the spirit of the owner is visible throughout the hotel:- for example, 20 min after the start of breakfast, the juice runs out, our request for a refill is rejected by the staff with the words, "Boss said that 1 bottle is enough"- there are no vegetables or fruits or plain baguettes for breakfast.- the staff is few - especially for breakfast- the rooms with tiled floors are uncomfortable and cold, the furniture is impractical and tasteless, there is no normal wardrobe, the bed creaks with every turn- walls are like paper, you can hear any noise from the neighbors. As a bonus, there's a dangerous driveway where the guardrails are sometimes missing and you're praying the whole time you don't run into anyone coming in the opposite direction.I will never come here again
Old room … not worth 25% of the cost
Had to get by car or bus
Awesome location, the bus ride up there was awesome! Very windy turns and cool views of the waterfall. Nice rooms, comfortable bedding, great bathrooms and delicious breakfast! I would book here again.
It's important to know there is no grocery store nearby. The hotel is very private, which is great, but come prepared.
