    Pros +

    • Comfortable beds, great shower, tea/coffee making facilities in the room. All was great.
    • Penta hotel is a clean inexpensive convenient place to stay. You hardly see any of the staff they are busy doing there job. But if you need them they are only a phone call away.
    • Located on the prom. Very clean and comfortable room. Free wifi. Lift available if needed. Simple complimentary breakfast was unexpected but appreciated.

    Cons -

    • Hotel was great..... just a little surprised that there was no phone in the room if we wanted to query anything with reception. Overall great stay.
    • Being 71 years of age I would like a hotel without steps up to the door. Don't read into that too much, there is a lift to the room. To my wife and I, we just love the place.
    • Nothing major, no view from the window....only part time receptionist but easily contactable if needed

Great location. Very clean. Handy breakfast.

Quality & space of room was good, comfortable bed & pillows. The courtesy breakfast suited us very well as we expected to have lunch & snacks whilst out.

Over bath shower had no grab rails which made entry exit less than comfortable. Although not a big issue our room looked out onto rear of former hotel next door which was very unsightly due to deterioration of the derelict hotel. My partner is wheat/gluten & dairy intolerant so her choice at breakfast was very limited. e.g Only butter & Milk offered.Flora type spreads & Oatmilk would have been welcome. (Would not expect gluten free bread)

Arrived late because the plane wasn’t on time. Followed the instructions and gained access to our room. It was quite large and hot water was readily available. The extra pillows were good and it was quiet during the night. The property was within easy walking distance of the electric railway and the horse-drawn tram. Receptionist was very helpful and organised breakfast. There were eating places nearby and a small convenience store.

The handle for flushing the toilet wasn’t very strong and it was difficult to use. I ended up taking the lid off of the cistern and flushing from the inside.

Almost everything was more than satisfactory, great room, very clean, breakfast fine.

Bedcover was a little too small for the size of bed and trended to come off in the night or at least admit cool air at the sides.

For context Ive stayed in dozens of Douglas bandb and small hotels the last ten years. Ive rated this against the others on the Island not against elsewhere. This is the first one ive stayed in one that didnt still have 50's / 60's furniture and strange coloured bathroom suites etc. Decoratively it is the best i've stayed in though the public area walls still quite marked. My huge double room ( for a single price) was pretty much faultless. Location on the prom far end (fairly quiet) is ideal. Usual kettle and bits.Contienental breakfast only was included and that was perfect for me and at the price I paid I was happy to even get that. The tea was nice. Why is it not a strong 9 ? , because I give an honest review and in my particular room (4) each night there was a very obvious sound like a washing machine spinning each night until at least 1a.m. This required me wearing earplugs to get sleep. I can't rate this hotel higher because this clearly is not right BUT this hotel will now definitely be my stay of choice on future occasions if the price is similar. Its great value im just pointing out one obvious issue which in 'at least' that room is unacceptable.

Douglas is a good base for exploring the island. Penta hotel right on the promenade, 10 minute walk into the centre.

    8KirstiePosted on: 3-28-2025

The location was pleasant, on the promenade. The gentleman I spoke to on check-in was polite. My room, including the bathroom, was much more spacious than I expected. I was able to enjoy (my own) tea in my room before I went down for breakfast. The lady in the breakfast room was very pleasant and friendly.

The "continental breakfast" was very disappointing. My bed was very hard and had only a single duvet. The check-in process was unconventional but not difficult to navigate.

    Booking.com communication

Your communication with the hotel caused a dangerous situation where you hadn't communicated that 2 out of 3 of the party were disabled, why would you ? You couldn't even pass basic detail like names , you are dangerous and I'll never use you again

The receptionist was friendly and hard working. She would greet us each morning with a breakfast and then be cleaning rooms.

The lift was broken and our room was on the top floor we was not notified of this. I have fibro and other medical conditions inwhich has left me in alot of discomfort. No hand rails to walk up the stairs.

We love this place. Great sea view, great location, easy parking, lovely and warm with great shower facilities.

There is nothing not to like for us.

Safe, clean, quiet, comfortable accommodation at a really good price. Staff were lovely and very helpful.

A little bit dated looks wise but that shouldn’t put you off.
