The host, Adam, was so easy to coordinate with and was super helpful in getting me checked in when there were changes to my flight /schedule. I am so grateful for the hospitality and willingness to work with me. I would've been stranded otherwise! Location is also stellar. Didn't stay long but the interactions I had with both staff and other guests was very pleasant.

Beautiful place with great pool and an awesome deal, short walk to beach and Matala Village for all the clubs and restaurants. Highly recommend for the solo travelers!!

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at Matala Hostel! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality that made me feel like a special guest. The highlight for me was definitely the inviting swimming pool, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.The staff, led by Adam the manager, went above and beyond to ensure my stay was enjoyable. Names like Sophie, Tobias, Theo, Caroline, and many others made my time here unforgettable with their friendly and helpful demeanor.I highly recommend Matala Hostel for anyone looking for a welcoming atmosphere and exceptional hospitality. Can't wait to return!

Affordable and just out of town, with very friendly staff and large private room with a balcony overlooking the mountains. We were given two single beds instead of a double one (which was still ok for one night) and the shower curtain didn't do much to keep the bathroom floor dry, but considering that it's hostel and not a hotel, that wasn't any kind of deal breaker.

This hostel was amazing! The staff were super friendly and helpful, always up for a chat and giving great recommendations. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with plenty of space. The common area was a great place to hang out and meet other travelers. I'd definitely stay here again!

The pool was a highlight, perfect for cooling off during the hot days and meeting fellow travelers. The location couldn’t be better—just a short walk to the stunning beach with crystal-clear water. The iconic hippy caves add such an inviting charm and atmosphere to the area, reminding you of the rich history and free-spirited vibe of Matala.It’s also a fantastic base for exploring nature—whether you’re into hiking, jeep safaris, or simply soaking up the beautiful surroundings, there’s so much to do. This place really has it all: great location, amazing people, and an unforgettable vibe. Highly recommend it for anyone visiting Crete!

Excellent Hostel. The stuff was very helpful and friendly on arrival. I liked very much the comfortable beds the well equipped kitchen but in general everything in that hostel was so good. Nice and clean everywhere. I loved my stay will be back.

Air conditioning remote kept getting hijacked. With the curtains that seal off each pod, each one soon becomes an oven if the room is not kept very cool. There should be some way of preventing these AC wars.

Really sweet and kind staff, but it seemed like some of them were volunteers. Cool guitar that guests can use. The location is terrific - 8 minute walk to the bus stop and about 12 minutes to matala Beach.

This was too expensive for the quality. The room was ok, not ready on arrival and no toilet paper and the bathroom was not really comfortable - overflowing shower and a strange curtain that didn't really work. This is the most basic of basic accommodation, and that is fine if the prices match. I've stayed in MUCH nicer places in Greece for far less. So one does feel a bit ripped off here. Has loads of potential but a fair way to go.

I absolutely loved Matala and would love to go back.

Stayed four nights, the bathroom was never cleaned once. No AC remote, so the AC was set at 18 for my entire stay, had to sleep with the doors open.

The location of the Hostel is fine. It's just a short walk from the Matala beach.The shared kitchen and dining spaces were a fun experience, though there didn't seem to be that many guest.Our kids loved the pool.

The condition of the room wasn't very good in general.The balcony door was barely closable and it seemed as if someone had tried to quickly fix it recently, but had left the job half done.Not much sound insulation from the rest of the Hostel.Can't reacommend it for a family. The private room is quite expensive as it's paid by the amount of beds reserved.
