Hotel Restaurant Der Engel, Sasbachwalden

To find the restaurant to be a Michelin mentioned one was a nice surprise and the food was excellent. However, to find the restaurant closed on the Monday night was a surprise, though they did say the chef might be able to rustle something up if necessary. We found somewhere else for dinner but were surprised that no staff member was around anywhere (in reception or the dining area) in the afternoon/evening. Breakfasts were buffet style with great choice available.

See paragraphs 2&3 in box above. Was very aware of the fact that there was a dog in the room above ours but was not unduly put out.

My room was in the second floor....there is not elevator ...you have to carry your luggage up the stairs without anyone helping you

unfortunately the restaurant was closed the day I was there.

This family are the perfect hosts and the hotel is immaculate. All the staff were incredibly helpful and made our stay a real pleasure. Of course, the absolute bonus is the Michelin rated restaurant. Fantastic food and wine, prepared and delivered with real pride, all in a magical Black Forest setting. Go there !

I liked it very much. However, everything is written and explained only in German language, not even in English. They don't have vegetal milk in the breakfast, only caw milk. Apart from that, the experience was fantastic

Beautiful hotel, good combination of traditional elements and modern touches in the interior. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. Restaurant was very good (we especially liked tapas night on Thursday). Large parking just in front of the hotel is very convenient. Situated in the beautiful village of Sasbachwalden.

Restaurant was a bit on the expensive side compared to some restaurants in the neighbourhood.

Loved every minute of our stay, would highly recommend. Excellent breakfast, very beautiful and comfortable rooms, very friendly and fast working staff. We arrived late and were seated at the restaurant half an hour later for dinner, which was perfect because we hadn't arranged anything.

It had a unique local decor and design. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing, my room was comfortable and spotless with an amazing view and AIR CONDITIONING!

There no elevator, which is the only tiny downside. it made no difference for me, but a heavy bag or joint problems would make it more difficult.

Room is very specious, clean and well decorated. The best room we had during the trip (out of 5 different places).Hotel owns a Michelin restaurant (at ground floor), but be aware that you must reserve in advance! We weren't lucky to get a table on arrival.They were very kind to offer extra vegan options for the breakfast (2 kinds of extra spreads and a soy milk).

The location, the staff and the Michelin star restaurant were simply amazing. Staff are very helpful. Rooms appear recently furnished and sanitised. The hotel has been underrated with 3 stars. The restaurant's selection of wines and cuisine is simply brilliant! It's the perfect place if you'd want to fine dine and go for a nice hike in nature, but not necessarily for a business trip.

The room doesn't appear business friendly as there are hardly any power sockets. The room is quite small. Would have appreciated if the iron box and cloth were delivered sooner.

All activities seem to stop after 22.00 and all places have closed.

Nice food, clean, good location! We slept very well.

We have had mixed experience with the staff. 2 staff members where very kind but 2 other staff members where very unfriendly and made us feel unwelcome. When we wanted to pay the woman got sort of angry because we wanted to pay using our phone. Maybe it was because we didn’t speak German and there was a language issue.

We enjoyed everything - there were nothing we didn't enjoy. Again we are recommending the "zum Engel" to everyone.
