Pros +
- Great view from the room. Spa and pools are pretty nice as well.
- The pool and view from the pool is the best part of this property. Insane view. Nice grass. Lots of umbrellas. Comfortable chairs. We quite enjoyed the restaurant. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable with a great view as well. Room service was fast and good. Staff were very kind and friendly. Overall, good value. If the relatively minor deficiencies listed were fixed, this place would likely be totally unaffordable. As it is, we would stay again.
- the pool the spa
Cons -
- 7 Euros for a tea?!? Same for a glass of wine. That's just too much! They could work to have more reasonable prices for things like that to prevent guests from feeling ripped off. Also, building shows its age... better care of walls and corners is much needed.
- Deficiencies listed in some reviews are mostly accurate. Property is slightly run down. Could use some paint and plaster in high traffic areas. Somewhat odd design...Need to take an elevator, then walk a long hall, then another elevator to reach the pool. Wifi was pretty much useless and so was cell reception. The place is made of concrete though, so it is understandable...Whatever, put your phone away :) Beyond the incredible view, there is not much nearby. A very nice family restaurant down the road. Room service staff english was not great...but it is Portugal. Since it is wine country, I suggest that every room have a cork screw! All minor issues and most could be easily fixed. Based on our stays elsewhere in Portugal, we did find the bar prices for beer, wine and drinks to be shockingly high...So we took a cab to the grocery store and did some shopping :) We had planned to rent a vehicle but due to unforseen issues, we took the train to and from the property. This was an easy process but the area is not very walking friendly if you need something not supplied by the hotel. Suggest you bring a car. We would drive if staying again in order to properly explore the area at our own pace. Overall we were happy with our stay and would return.
- i did not like the fact that the hotel who claims to have a resturant, did not advise that there was a private event and the restaurant was closed, we came late and the bar was quite croweded with many others surprised

The facilities are extremely good. The view is amazing and the pools, gym, the restaurants and bars are beautifully organized.
The hotel needs a bit of maintenance around the corners of the doors. The walls are broken around the coridors, rust has been observed. If you are looking to enjoy the hotel perhaps is one of the best. If you are looking into visiting famous vineyards is quite far and difficult drive and perhaps you should consider Regua or Pinhao.
Very spacious rooms with great views of the Douro River in an eco friendly environment.
A little far from the wineries, but the train was convenient and all worked out well.
The swimming pool view and length. The spa area.
The swimming pool was dirty.Staff was not always very nice. The bathroom needs a renovation - the shower base was “not set” properly. You would go in and the entire base would move under your feet while you showered. The bathroom marbles were old looking. The pool was nice but constantly dirty. The spa had some draining issues in the shower area outside.
The room was spacious and clean, the pool was spectacular, the food at breakfast was excellent, the staff was kind and helpful. Dinner at the hotel’s restaurant was absolutely excellent.
There maintenance of the hotel needs some improvements . However when we had a problem with the sink and the toilet the staff was very quick and efficient and solved the problem,
Beautiful view and great pool area. The room was spectacular and clean. The spa was nice with great massage.Food was good at dinner and breakfast as well.
The location is amazing - views are great from the room, restaurant and pool.
Once it was probably a newly built fancy place to stay - now everything is old and falling apart. (Even the hotel name sign is falling off.) Doors stuck, furniture is crooked, staff are active but useless. Better to remove “spa” from the name as there Royal Rituals for 2 hours made me want to take a hot shower to remove the grease and warm myself.Restaurant food is not good. The obsessiveness with olive oil and overcooked pasta. And the cherry on the top - if you have slightly long nails you won’t be able to use wardrobe or toilet flush?♀️
The river view from the room
The carpet is tattered and dirty, the shower is rusty, and the door is crumbling. Not what I expected from a 5 star hotel.
The view, the swimming pool, the restaurant and the bed
For a 5 stars hotel, the staff was not super helpful and welcoming, just a paper of good wineyards and restaurants around the hotel but not really good advices. The furnitures in the rooms were damaged. The breakfast could be better.
Great location, infinity pool view is insane
Breakfast area was overcrowded both days. The queue to coffee was very long, so we couldn’t get it.Breakfast options are also very limited for a five star hotel.
The location along the Douro river was amazing. The outdoor pool on the roof was amazing and overlooks the river below. The room cleaning staff was courteous and respectful. A lot of wild life for picture taking.
The food (dinner/room service) was awful. Even with dinner reservation slot, the dining staff had trouble with the volume of patrons. The dining staff seem inexperienced and indifferent in their attitude towards patrons. We ordered coffee for dinner and waited over an hour to receive it, before walking out without it. Room service consisting of orders for sandwiches took 90 minutes. We wound up driving/cabbing to nearby towns (Marcos de Canaveses and Cinfães for restaurants, which were much better for service and price. The front desk also did not seem to know what is happening locally. We asked about jet ski rentals and they said maybe they can connect us with a company. We asked about local winery tours and they also seem confused. The physical structure of the hotel had visible incomplete work/blemishes, which is not consistent with a 5-star location.
Infinity pool was great with stunning view
Extra charge for the swimming cap is a bit too much for using indoor swimming pool. Also strict rule for kids not being allowed to use sauna
The location of the property was amazing! We enjoyed the spa and relaxing by the pool.
The only thing that I would change is that they should provide an ironing board and iron in the units. That’s pretty standard in hotels. Also, it’s a bit of a maze to try to determine where to go to check in. For the first time there, it’s quite confusing to figure out where to access which elevator. Lighting could be better in the rooms. Otherwise a beautiful property.
Everything was excellent great view great bad size, great pools inside and outside.
Everything was excellent besides the chairs of the restaurant tables, very uncomfortable and a limited menu for the whole week, it didn't change I don't know if it was for the whole Month.
Beautiful view! Received upgrade and received cava and cake for our anniversary celebration! Great breakfast. Would have stayed longer if we could have. Highly recommended
Location was beautiful. Nice spacious rooms. Good facilities
Strange arrangement of lifts to get anywhere. There are no direct lifts between all floors, instead you have to take different lifts and walk between them to access different floors?
Very cold and unwelcoming staff.Further, they were not at all accommodating about or vegetarian diet. The Wi-Fi also was poor.
This was an exceptional hotel. Best parking we've had so far in Portugal. Our room had a balcony with a gorgeous view of the river. Breakfast was to die for!! I purchased two beautiful pieces of jewelry made by a local artist that were on display in the hotel lobby as well!!!
