Pousada de Marvao

We changed room type to the suite. It was wonderful with a balcony overlooking Marvao and Spain. The restaurant had the best Iberic pork! The staffs were very nice, helpful, and flexible in meeting our needs for a better room. Loved our stay.

Driving into the the castle was a thrill due to myriads of blind spots in the narrow medieval lanes, but it worked out beautifully, thanks to the local folks who were volunteering to direct traffic.

The historic nature of the pousada and the excellent staff. The views were tremendous.

Parking was difficult but understandable.

The view is wonderful. The food at the restaurant is also delicious. The morning breakfast was excellent, with a beautiful view from the window. The staff were all very kind as well.

A fantastic location with breath taking views. We booked the Superior Suite with balcony and it was worth every penny. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the meal was very good.

Location is a 10 with an amazing view!My new favorite hotel! The architecture is fantastic and is located close to a 11th century castle.

You drive through the city gates and the roads are very narrow. Lucky we found it! All adds to the charm!

The visit was superlative in every way: beautiful rooms, stunning views, great chef and hotel staff. Castlebel bath product.

It would be nice to have an additional easy chair in the bedroom, so that two guests can sit together while watching TV.

I use booking literally dozens of times. I don’t give 10’s but this time I MUST. The staff were above-and-beyond. Room view food all fantastic.

Marvelous breakfast and amazing view!

The jacuzzi was disappointing, It was difficult to reach (through the dining room) and was not clean enough.

The view from the hotel is spectacular, especially from the restaurant area. The pousada is part of the old castle's village with very narrow streets. The staff is very friendly.

Make sure you park on the public parking area within the walls, one street below the hotel.

This may have been one of the most special places I have ever stayed. The welcome, information and help Luiz provided was outstanding, and so warm and genuine. The town is absoutely unique and the location of the Pousada simply stunning. I cannot imagine anyone not loving it as I did!

Amazing location, can't get any better, great food, exceptional staff.

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The concierge went out in the rain to help me bring bags in while my husband dealt with parking on narrow alleys. She also made a reservation for an alternate place to eat since the restaurant on site was fully booked. And she gave my kids little Easter egg chocolates at check in! ???

Driving/parking is tough once you're in the walled city but totally worth it!

The first room that we were shown to was dark and smelled of drains. I rejected this and the very pleasant young lady at reception, Sra Margarida, took charge of the situation and arranged a very nice room for us. We were made to feel very welcome. Sra Margarida is a great asset to this hotel.Dinner, sitting by the window with fantastic views, was a memorable experience. The young maitre d was knowledgeable and efficient. We had pork glazed with plums. It was outstanding and the nicest piece of pork I've ever had. No nouveau cuisine nonsense. Proper portions! We were recommended to try the Altas Quintas 2022 Reserva. This is a very fine red coming in at a cheeky 15%. Highly recommended.After an excellent night's sleep we awoke to catch the sunrise followed by a a hearty breakfast. The bacon was excellent and enjoyable, unusual south of Britain's shores. The scrambled egg was rich and creamy. It was world class.

25€ was a bit steep for having our small dog with us.

Water leaks on ceiling, walls and windows.Sewer gas sas smell in the lower section of the suite, bathroom and bedroom.

Unique property in motion top walled village with incredible views from the restaurant. Very hospitable staff.

We stayed on a cold night and unfortunately were in the clouds for most of our stay.

Amazing Location! Superb Views! Very very nice people working at the place. Spacious rooms. Very diverse and nice breakfast! Very comfortable but small bed!

The general decor is a bit old style matching with the village and the surroundings and even with the building, but the bathrooms are definitely outdated and need reformations. But nothing that disturbs your visit.

Wide ranging breakfast buffet. Dinner very good value and all service excellent. Wise to park on the lower level street. All staff very helpful. The town streets are very narrow so a smaller car useful. Explore the village and castle on foot.
