Hi, I'm Penny! Ask me anything about Bernstorff Castle Hotel: rooms, rates, amenities or policies.

About

“Bernstorff Castle Hotel is located in the historical building Kavalérgården, just next to the iconic Castle. There are no rooms in the actual Castle, but the reception is located in the Castle's lobby and breakfast is served in the Castle's high-ceilinged rooms with a wonderful view of green meadows and Copenhagen skyline in the background. Kavalérgården can be dated back to 1832 and is beautifully located in Bernstorffparken – a lush green park, ideally for morning runs or romantic walks. Downtown Copenhagen is just 6.2 mi away and can be easily reached by car or public transport. The hotel offers free WiFi and free parking. All rooms are equipped with tv, desk and a coffee/tea maker and of course a private bathroom. We look forward to welcoming you.

    Pros +

    • The location was great. The surroundings were very nice, and the room was comfy and clean. Parking was good.
    • The hotel is located in a very beautiful location in Bernstorff park; great for walking and being close to nature. It's in a quiet area and 15 minutes walking distance from the train station. The rooms were nice. Check-in was very easy.
    • Easy check-in, comfortable beds, very good breakfast, location — in the gorgeous park.

    Cons -

    • It was completely deserted on the weekend which was a bit weird but wasn't a problem.
    • The staff was not present because we were there during a weekend so we had no interaction with the staff whatsoever (there was no breakfast or room service). Also, during the evenings, you do have to walk 15 minutes in the dark in the park; the area is very safe but it can feel a little daunting!
    • Missing fridge in the room, very poor water pressure in the showers.

Bernstoffs Castle is a real Castle with a huge lovely garden/ground situated just 5 min away (by car) from Gentofte City, where you have shops and restaurants. Lovely building, lovely surroundings. Great Breakfast served at the Castle, both upstairs in they Royal locale and downstairs in wonderful surroundings. We found two excellent (Italian) restaurants. One just 500M right out of the hotel at the traffic circle, and another downtown Gentofte.

Very little not to like. A/C not available, but if days are hot it cools down at night, so no problem sleeping even on a hot day. Best to have a car which can be parked for free. (You cannot find free parking closer to Copenhagen).

Beautiful buildings and grounds. Very nice room. Amazing breakfast. Will stay again.

    Nothing I'm aware of.

Very nice and quiet location, easy parking and clean rooms.

The bathroom would benefit from a renovation, the beds were very soft, staff was absent over the weekend and didn't reply to questions over email: they didn't provide instructions for checking out, so I had to leave the keys where I found them and hope for the best.

    10LewPosted on: 4-8-2025

From start to finish, everything exceeded my expectations. The entire process was smooth and completely contactless — I didn't even see any hotel staff during check-in or check-out. All the instructions were clear and easy to follow, making the stay feel effortless. The room was spotless, well-appointed, and had all the amenities I needed. The quiet, private atmosphere made it feel like my own personal retreat. I couldn’t have asked for a more seamless and pleasant stay—highly recommended!

The beautiful park is a perfect setting for the hotel, stunning clean surroundings.

When I booked it said "No breakfast"...so I presumed, wrongly as it turned out, that I had to pay extra for breakfast. Not so, no breakfast provided at the weekend despite the huge sign on the wall in the lobby area giving the times for breakfast every day. These times also appeared in the booklet in the room. Nearest place to get anything at all to eat is 25 minutes away on foot apparently. I had no car, my visit was to see friends in Soborg. So they had to pick me up every morning for breakfast at their house, which was fortunate for me, but what sort of hotel doesn't serve breakfast??????!!!!! The radiator in the bedroom was 90% behind the desk so not much heat from it at all and there was a smell of drains in the bathroom. Reading the reviews before I booked everyone was extolling the virtues of the fabulous breakfast, so I naturally imagined it was payable at the hotel. So buyer beware, before you click book, make sure you know that No Breakfast really means absolutely NO BREAKFAST!!!! Access to the building wasn't that clear either, I don't speak Danish, I got my entrance cards from the wall safe outside but there is no indication as to where you swipe them..I had to go up to the Palace to reception which was fortunately still open (it closes at 4!) to find out how to get in...the woman on reception sarcastically told me I needed to be "a little patient with modern technology" like I was some aged cretin! I'll not be rushing back., there are plenty of other places to stay where you can eat in the mornings!

The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and the towels were very big and fluffy. The free parking option was useful. I appreciated a close proximity to nature.

It was the most bizarre check - in experience I’ve ever had in my 49 long life! And I’ve stayed in 4-star hotels in Europe in several countries.I booked that hotel through booking.com, and 20 min before me booking I talked to someone in the reception and she sent me over to booking.com because she „couldn’t see in her system whether there were any rooms available”. How is it even possible??? Then 30 min after I got the booking confirmation and read through some of the reviews here, I wanted to check when we would get the code for the key box. No one answers the phone, you’re just being put in a queue (calling from abroad it costs money!!)The whole morning next day I spent trying to reach them - nada! I was worried there not there (in my confirmation I got the message that the hotel will accommodat my request to check in between 2-3pm so I was still hoping that someone will be there. When we got to the hotel at 1pm, the door was locked and no one was in sight. Thankfully there was a number for emergencies displayed on a note so I called. A lady answered and instead of apologising for the inconvenience she passiv aggressively confronted me about me not reading my emails, because I was suppposed to get a key code. NO ONE HAD SENT ME ONE! She murmurred „ok” when I told her I had booked through the website. About 10 minutes later she showed up, visibly annoyed because she had to come to check us in. How do you not make sure that people who paid almost 200€ for a room were able to reach that room? It’s a complete mess, a distaster and very embarrasing! SO unprofessional and VERY BAD first impression. I was just thankful that we managed to get the keys and didn’t lose our money.People comment about breakfast and how delicious it was - there was no breakfast to be purchased. Maybe because it was a Saturday, I don’t know. Not a big problem for me as I usually start eating around noon but it was all very confusing and unprofessional.

Staff was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was very good as well. The main building (where the breakfast was offered) is very nice. The building where the rooms are and the rooms themselves are a bit old but okay. Location in the park is nice.

As the hotel reception was closed when I arrived, I had to pick up my roomcard at the builing. This worked perfectly. The staff had sent me messages on how to do this; all good. Location was very quiet, it felt like I was almost alone in the building. Fine by me but I can imagine other people liking that less.

It was a less pleasant surprise to learn that there would be no breakfast during the weekend and the alternatives were a 20+ minute walk away. The bed was a bit on the short side for me (being 2 meters tall). The shower 5 minutes to produce warm water but after the waiting it was fine.

Staff great, breakfast great, Slot (where the breakfast is served) very nice. Park is also nice, especially if you like dogs since it's a no-leash park and dogs are everywhere.

The room in the disconnected building seems like it looked when I last stayed there 20 years back. Meaning everything in an old state and quite used. Shower was not very enjoyable, bed also not (but that could be just us I suppose).Wish they renovated the rooms, but not a dealbreaker. If the location is perfect for your stay it's still a decent stay, especially the staff and breakfast makes up for it.

The location was excellent. The staff were professional and polite. The breakfast was wonderful.

There was nothing I did not like.

    10AnnePosted on: 10-12-2024

Beautiful grounds. Extremely pleasant and helpful staff. Sumptuous breakfast in wonderful surroundings. Public transport within walking distance. Highly recommend.

Not a lot to do in the hotel itself.

    8AmyPosted on: 10-12-2024

Location quiet and secluded. Breakfast very nice. Staff very friendly.

Price too high for no elevator, attic room, no mini-frig, no wine glasses, and reception desk not open. Is this a hotel or an AirBnB?! Some literature on the surrounding area would have been helpful. Yucky art in room.

    8MayaraPosted on: 9-19-2024

The location is far from Copenhagen but super nice area. A beautiful park and calm neighborhood.

The e tire structure is a bit old but well maintained. There room was a bit dirty (we found an ear plug between the beds) and the toilet has a curtain, no Glassdoor.

    9ÁgnesPosted on: 9-16-2024

Breakfast, the park of the castle, special atmosphere and historic place!

The stairs were a little bit to steep to the attic.

    10ReginaldPosted on: 9-10-2024

The staff were kind and helpful and the room we stayed in we enjoyed very much. The grounds were beautiful and well kept.

Our bad knees did not like the stair climb. But that’s the way old castles are made. Worth the stay though.

    9ArnoldPosted on: 9-7-2024

The location is the main attraction… Situated at a beautiful estate this hotel allows you to slow down and take a step back from a busy day. The rooms are simple but really sufficient. Staff is kind and helpful and parking is convenient. The hotel is a bit further away from the city center and there are very little facilities on site.

It’s not a negative but again, the hotel is simple in terms of facilities and a bit further away from the city center. If that’s okay for you then this is a great hotel to stay!

    9EdwinPosted on: 9-3-2024

Breakfast was served in the castle. In the centre section a large selection of food was present with ability to use one of the side rooms or the outside patio to use with a beautiful view on the garden.
