the location was amazing and we had a shower in our room, staff is really friendly we loved it
it might be a bit loud at night since its super central, but we had no problem with it
Staff let us leave our bags before/after checkout, the room had an amazing location and the balcony was great to view the old town while staying out of the sun. Shared bathroom was a bit tired but it was clean and functional, and I never had to wait long to use it. Sink in the room was a bonus.
The location is great as it’s in the centre of town
If your room is facing the Main Street then be prepared for a lot of noise from the party people walking home. As there’s no AC, we had to have the windows open and thus no sleep. Kitchen is quite lacking as there’s no access to a sink for water (they do offer a jug of tap water) and lack of tables to eat
Caravela has many private rooms at varying sizes. The staff are very friendly and ready to help. The location is right in the middle of the busy tourist center with restaurants and shops the moment you step out the door. The sea is only a short walk away. Inside the property it is surprisingly very quiet considering the hustle and bustle outside. The roof is a nice place to sit, relax and/or look at the activity below. There are not many facilities for when the place is full. There is one table in the central lobby area, and one microwave, a kettle, one coffee machine that required Delta Q pods or equivalent and a few cups, as well as some cutlery and plates. The staff wash up anything used. There are only 2 tables on the roof (the roof could be made into an oasis for travelers). There are only 3 (I believe) toilets with showers to be shared with everyone. The room prices become ridiculously expensive like everywhere else in Lagos during summer season, but out of season the place is less full so you have easy access to everything mentioned and the rooms are excellent value for money. Oh yeah, towels are provided, the internet is good, there was a sink in my room which was useful, and my mattress was hard, which I personally love and found extremely comfortable.
The lights in the room are unnecessarily dim! I seriously thought about going out and buying my own lightbulbs for my stay. The only thing needed is brighter light bulbs. When you turn on the lights they almost make no difference to the darkness in the room.
The property was well located, right in the centre and if your room looked at the inner court, it was quiet. The bed was comfortable and I appreciated the extra blanket for the night and the washbasin in the room was great. The sea, shops, bus station was in walking distance. It had a roof terrace and a table in the courtyard. In the ‘kitchen’ there was a kettle, fridge and microwave. The staff did the washing up. The bathroom was a bit dated, but functional. It was all clean. I could have a peaceful rest after a long day walking
I didn’t like the fact that I couldn’t wash my hands when I used the kitchen unless I went to the bathroom. There was paper provided though.
The staff was kind and location was central to all the main things.
Having the door to the building wide open on a busy street that could have the potential for random people easily accessing the rooms was uncomfortable. The room i was assigned felt damp and smelt musty , sqeaky bed with the only window opening onto the little court yard. I ended up finding another place to stay because, as a solo traveling female, I just didn't feel right.
Great location, nice to have a room to yourself. Was clean enough for the price.
Didn't get to meet anyone as it didn't seem very social unfortunately.
Great hosts, espiacelly Patricia, i like the vibe of this place and it is very central.
Great location, 5 minutes to the beach and a fantastic walk to the lighthouse. On the main road in the town so access to bars, restaurants and supermarkets was easy. Great rooftop terrace. Room was clean. Very good value for money if you don't want anything fancy. I enjoyed my time there.
Bathroom could do with some renovations but functional.
There is NOTHING to like.
It’s difficult to review Carvela. As it’s cheap, you expect it to be bad, and it is. So the question is whether it’s value for money. The location is right in the centre of Lagos old town, but as Lagos is small, most accommodation is well-located anyway. Rooms are private with an in-room sink and you share bathrooms, but there’s little soundproofing, so bring ear plugs! You get towels and bed linen is clean, but there’s no in-room soap or shower gel. Rooms have no heating, fans or air-con which is crazy. I was very cold during the off-peak season and I imagine it would be like a sauna during summer. Wi-Fi varies from not connecting to being fast, so it’s unreliable. My shared bathroom had strong water pressure with lots of hot water, but lacked a basic wall attachment, meaning you needed to hold the shower head. Also, the communal ‘kitchen’ area is a joke and feels like a health hazard, it would take little effort to make this so much better. Most of these things are acceptable for a low nightly price, and could still give the property a decent rating. However, the main issue is that the property is being very badly maintained. Weirdly you can see small attempts have been made to improve the place (like the nice bedroom floors), but there are so many other things wrong. For example, there is just no excuse for having mould on walls and fabrics (see photos). I actually became ill whilst staying in this room. This mould, along with the damp patches, are a health risk, and the local authorities should investigate this. For this reason alone, it deserves the lowest possible rating.Overall, the impression is that the owners just do not care. Without spending a lot on renovations, the owners could make vast improvements. With renovations, it could be a beautifully charming guest house, charging premium prices, in central Lagos. This place needs new owners with the vision to make the changes required.
Location was great!
The bed was uncomfortable, and everything felt a little damp.
Very central with main shopping street and plenty of restaurants and bars just seconds away! Staff were very helpful (Patricia) when l explained about my concern for noise outside at night and said if l didn’t sleep well, she would refund remaining nights. This wasn’t necessary!
This is what it is - it’s NOT a hotel, it’s NOT a hostel! It’s an old building with its own charm. Baths are painted as enamel has probably rusted, each room comes with a small sit down shower and sink. And that is adequate for the price you are paying. Patricia will ALWAYS help, so ASK if you have a problem eg. Second set of keys? Of course! There were mosquitoes, so come prepared!
Killer location, quiet despite being on main tourist street, clean and with considerate staff.
Carpet makes me uneasy. Some wear and tear. Bed was slightly too short for me at full length.
The staff is excellent, a very helpful young man, a cleaning lady and everyone I met along the way.
My room window overlooked the inner courtyard of the hostel. I couldn't open the curtains to let in fresh air, otherwise I would have been visible to everyone passing by, living in or checking into the hostel. When I booked the room from the photo, this was not clear. The audibility of various sounds is very strong, even with the window closed. I slept with earplugs, so I managed to get enough sleep.
Very comfortable and clean room in a great location.
Location is awesome.
Single rooms resemble a monks quarter. Very noisy at night. Sink clogging. Uncomfortable overall.
Even though it’s not a four-star hotel, it’s a really cozy place and the staff was super nice to us. I just loved it. Also the location is outstanding.
Honestly, nothing. Everything was really good.
