Pros +

  • The location.
  • I liked the kitchen and free parking and laundry
  • It’s a lovely hostel, very clean. The bed hurt my back a little very stiff. I would stay again. Staff are responsive even when they are not on location. We had issues with a young couple at 3am getting wild but I sent a message to the management they are dealing with it. I would stay here again.

Cons -

  • Door code was wrong but someone let us in. Then were able to call the emergency number for help. There were no staff in the hostel when we were there.
  • The bathrooms were poorly lit. I refused to shower in one of the downstairs bathrooms as it looked dirty and full of mildew and if it was not mildew I would not want to shower with whatever the black thing was that was on the tile work. I had no choice but to use the other shower, but frankly I have no idea what I may have been showering with at the lighting was very poor and the shower tiles were dark brown. While no fault of the hostel, the guests were noisy until late and then woke me up before 5 am with all their door slamming. Quite hours should be enforced.
  • The showers didn’t have the best water pressure and smelt a little weird

Great place to stay in Selfoss. Kitchen is very well equipped, there are coffee and tea facilities! Nice handy location next to groceries and restaurants. Bathrooms are really clean and almost fancy for a hostel. There is also a sink and running water in the rooms. Charming overall.

Rooms are really small with limited space to open suitcases. We also had to put our own bedsheets and remove them at the end. Haven't found that anywhere else during our stay in Icelandic hotels. Not a deal breaker, just an additional step when arriving from so far. Check out is also early at 10 am which is earlier than most hostels we stayed in Iceland.

Great kitchen and great location.

The showers were a little dirty on our second stay.

7AndrewPosted on: 8-15-2025

Bed were comfortable and good location

It was a little noisy with people walking back and forth to the kitchen

7GianlucaPosted on: 8-11-2025

Kitchen was very busy. On site staff friendly. My room itself kind of sucked but I got what I paid for. Very bare bones.

Doors slamming shut.

The kitchen was clean and fully stocked with utensils and cutlery and pots and pans and dishes

Parking was not marked clearly. Had to park on a near by pharmacy store

Convenient location in selfoss, walkable to groceries/restaurants/shops. Great shared kitchen facilities, well equipped for meal preparation

Thin walls—could hear loud neighbors in hallways, adjacent rooms

Free parking, coffee machine, clean apartment, easy instructions.

A clean cheap place to stay in a very expensive country.

Lots of street noise, poor water pressure in showers, very awkward shower set up, lumpy beds.

Marta and Ania were both incredibly kind and helpful in every way. Very grateful for you both. The kitchen was well stocked with the necessities and free coffee. The showers were very clean and abundant hot water. The beds were comfy and the nightly conversation in the dining area was very pleasant. Highly recommended, ~Zack

Nothing. It was a very fair price for a very clean room

Reasonably priced accommodations for Iceland. Coin operated washer and dryer (about $8 per load and can only pay by card) by the common area kitchen.

The kitchen and dining area were very spacious. Complimentary cocoa, coffee, and tea were provided. The instructions for self-check-in and checkout were very clear. The room size was okay—not large, but much better than a typical hotel room in Tokyo. There were plenty of shared bathrooms and shower rooms. You can borrow a hair dryer at the reception desk. There are grocery stores and a gas station nearby. Btw, gas in Selfoss is way cheaper than Vik/hofn.

The hostel is nearby the traffic, so you might hear some noise from outside traffic. And it's very easy to miss it because the hostel sign is small, so I had a hard time to find and park my car.

Location was good. Right off the highway connecting Reykjavik to Vik in the South. Plenty of restaurants close by. Shared kitchen was spacious and nicely required.

Room was a little cramped. It was a triple room. But I couldn't visualize how a third bed could even physically fit in the room. Or how the expertly small closet space would suffice.Pillows were uncomfortable. Window blinds were not effective - and that matters in the land of midnight sun.

Clean facilities, easy check in, good location

Small room, bathrooms were a little dirty.

The location of the hostel.

People were talking loudly in the kitchen and courtyard and they could be heard in the rooms, even at about 10:30 pm. One of the WC doors could not be opened properly from the inside. We have to take some time to force open it.

Nothing. It was bizarrely expensive, run down, not staffed and the ridiculously tiny room they put me in the first night had a sloped roof such that I could only stand up in one corner. No sink, no mirror, curtains that didn’t cover half the window (which is a big deal when it gets light at 2-3am!!!) and no bathroom on my floor. Also the spiral staircase leading upstairs was barely wide enough to accommodate my small backpack with individual stairs so narrow I had to navigate them sideways while holding onto railings so as not to fall down them. And my reservation said no breakfast was included (for $160+ per night!!!!).After complaining on the second day, they did move me to a different room where thankfully I could stand up…and then told me that breakfast was included with my reservation. Would have appreciated knowing that the first night.

Everything. Just a terrible, very expensive experience!

Easy to find, no reception on the afternoon, but our key card was waiting for us. Clean, nice, and free coffee in the morning
