    • I loved my stay here and honestly wish I could have stayed longer. The room was the perfect size for me as a solo traveler but I think would be fine for a couple who don't mind a cozy space. The a/c was perfect, the bed was very comfortable, and the hot water in the shower was plentiful. The balcony was quite spacious, and I made good use of the hammock. It was also really nice to have a fan outside. The private entrance was surprisingly nice to have, even though I don't normally look for this. Also, the location is convenient to trekking headquarters, though the accommodation itself offers great trekking packages. This was one of my favorite places to stay during a five-week trip in Sumatra.
    • Amazing staff, food, trek information !
    • We had an excellent stay at Sam's and both Sam and his team were very friendly and efficient at all times, including arranging airport transfers and treks. Sam's Bungalows are situated at the end of the village upstream from almost everyone else which meant for less scooter traffic in front of it and clean water to swim (with care given the current). Our room was very comfortable with great river view from the balcony and Aircon which was nice to have. Our trek to see the orangutans was very successful and a fun return rafting down the river. We did a separate rafting trip down to the next village which was highly enjoyable too.As it is almost at the end of the village it is a 10-15 minute walk or short scooter ride from the parking area, but we loved the location.

    Cons -

    • If I had to find something, I might mention there were three or four very small, very harmless ants on the bed when I first arrived. They were easy to remove, and not really bothersome; it is the jungle, after all, and the fact that there were so few insects was actually a plus.
    • Nothing we had such a good time !
    • Can’t think of anything

I had a wonderful stay at Sam’s Bungalow in Bukit Lawang. The property has a really peaceful and authentic jungle vibe, which made it the perfect retreat after days of exploring. I especially loved the location—right by the river, surrounded by lush greenery.

Great staff, awesome location, comfortable stay with a good restaurant and many options for activities including trekking. Basically the perfect ‘one stop shop’ for your stay in Bukit Lawang. I’d definitely rebook on a next trip

Amazing 1 week stay at Sam's bungalows! Sam and the team are great, both friendly and considerate. The crew definitely made my stay better than I could have anticipated. The location is also great, on the quieter, lusher and more picturesque part of Bukit Lawang. It is stunning here, you may see orangutans across the river at breakfast. The rooms was also fantastic, very lucky to have found accommodation that has hot water and aircon, and all extremely clean and comfortable. Anything I needed, all I did was ask and it was provided. It was so easy get everything organized too - the accommodation, the jungle trek, elephant walk, village tour, flower tour and all the delicious meals. Would definitely stay again, in fact, would want to come back just to stay at Sam's!

Our room had a fantastic view with outside seating area, a massive bathroom with bath and a 4 poster bed. It was beautifully finished.

The owner and his staff are very, very friendly and helpful. Because of a problem with the toilet they’ve offered us an upgrade. The room was really nice and very clean. And the food and drinks are delicious. Everything we’ve tried from the menu was really good. We recommend this!!

Great location near the river and right by our trek guides. Friendly staff and super helpful since we arrived close to midnight. Great, clean large room with mosquito nets and a balcony. Good shower too. Good Wi-Fi too.

Large room, very comfy bed, extremely clean with hot water in the shower. There’s no AC but the fan kept us cool enough for the night. There’s a hammock outside and a drying rack. It’s a serene place to spend time in Bukit Lawang!

This is nitpicky, but there’s no soap near the sink for handwashing. We had to walk into the shower to grab soap for washing our hands.

The kindness and availability of all staff, the proposed activities

The shower heater was functioning well but it took us a couple try to master it.A few extra electric sockets would be helpful

Great location with great massages for when you get back from the jungle. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the food was excellent

    Everything was great ?

Clean and comfortable room with a hammock on the balcony so you can look at the jungle which you read a book. The place is right at the end of town so you can swim in clean refreshing water as it's upstream from the centre of town. Food and juices are reasonably priced and delicious. Everyone working there is super helpful and friendly. We arranged a car back to Medan with them for 700k which seems to be the standard price. They took our bags by moto to the car, which was great.

The netting surrounding the four poster bed didn't actually close up. Would've preferred a mosquito net so we didn't get bitten at night.

Very friendly and helpful staff, great food and very spacious and new family room.We booked the 2 day excursion and this was a fantastic experience, thanks to our guides Andre, Nah and Hassan. Thank you for a great stay!

We are a family of three, travelling with our 16 year old son.An absolutely wonderful place to stay and organise all aspects of your stay in Bukit Lawang. Sam’s Bungalows took care of us from the moment we made our booking until the end of our stay. They can organise all trips and treks for you in advance, arrange all transportation, including airport pickup to onward travel. Sam, and his staff, are so friendly and welcoming and really care that you have a great stay - their personal touch to everything really shows. Our room was very comfortable and stylish, clean linen and towels, modern bathroom and a balcony, with hammock, offering a lovely view of the river and valley. The location is towards the end of the village, which is slightly quieter, but a very short walk to the other restaurants and shops. Food in the restaurant was excellent and good value.I can highly recommend letting Sam organise your jungle trek. He has his own guides, we went with Andre who made the trek extremely enjoyable and could answer all your questions. Special mention to the cook who made a stunning meal at the jungle camp. He can also organise the trip to the elephant sanctuary, including driver, and all can be organised in advance via email. We have travelled extensively and would 100% recommend Sam’s Bungalows - if we re- visit Bukit Lawang we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Very nice bungalows near the river where you can swimm! They organised a super 4 days Jungle Trek for our family with a really fantastic guide (Ponidi). He was just super nice with our kids, and very careful during the trek.

We did spend two nights at Sam‘s Bungalows and it was just amazing. Very friendly stuff, very new and luxurious rooms with hot water and a restaurant which is serving delicious breakfast and dinner. Also we recommend as a highlight the one day jungle tracking tour - have seen 15! Orang Utans and many further animals.

A great place to stay. Rooms were clean and beds very comfy. We booked several hikes, a massage, and ate all our meals here during our visit to Bukit Lawang. The hikes will remain some of our very best memories ever. The staff, both within the guesthouse, and our hiking guides, and our driver to and from Medan were all wonderful. I have wanted to see the Orangutans for some years, and this trip fulfilled that for me. As a bonus we got to see the world’s largest flower, as it happened to bloom while we were there. Loved the monkey parade past our balcony each day. Sam runs an excellent business and manages a great team.
