    Pros +

    • The room was spacious and the beds comfortable. Was great to have aircon in the middle of summer. It was a lovely touch that we got a back deck to enjoy morning coffee on. The TV also swivelled off the wall so we could watch something late at night in bed. It was also convenient that everything was a 3-5minute drive. The owner was friendly and welcoming to top it all off. I would come back and stay again.
    • The lodge was clean and cozy. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
    • Clean and near beach but without the crowd

    Cons -

    • Would have been nice for the shower to be more updated with a removable shower head. The floor was a bit hard even with carpet. Having the fridge on before arrival would have been a good touch so our food could keep cold.
    • The parking spaces take some maneuvering to get in and out, but it is manageable.
    • Very poor low water pressure. Having a shower was like using a watering can! We are now in a camper van & the shower mixer unit is exactly the same - so Aotearoa Lodge using camper van fittings! Kitchen had no exhaust fan - smelly common areas. I told manager but his response was non-plus. Not good.

The rooms and grounds were very comfortable and well-maintained. The owner was very kind. It was a relaxing stay over a long weekend.

The parking spaces take some maneuvering to get in and out, but it is manageable.

Self contained unit with options for basic meals at the community kitchenette . Good upkeep of the property , clean linens and a comfortable bed .Slightly out of town centre but with a car you’ll be there in 5-7 mins

The basin has a dated taps that discharge hot water from 1 faucet and cold from another - no option to mix .

The staff were absolutely lovely. They opened the reception late for us to check in as our flight was delayed. The shower was great, the aircon worked well. The deck was huge!

The parking was adequate but difficult to get in and out, bit of a squeeze. The room was a little bit musty but once the doors opened for a bit it was fine.

Lovely quiet location. Rooms are big and also same with the bathroom

Bed was ok but every time your other half moves you wake. Perfectly fine if you were on your own.

Amazing location with big gardens and threes, perfect for the baby. The room was cosy and clean and the owner family is just adorable... Beautiful people !!

Lovely owners, nice and tidy unit with amenities.

Everything was good - while I find the beds comfy I was quite itchy and felt like I was being bitten. Besides that, there was no other issue.

    7GillPosted on: 4-13-2025

Decor a bit spartan and bathrooms could do with an update, but very clean and beds were comfortable and there was air conditioning. Nice little terrace to sit out on directly outside bedroom with a pleasant view (watch out for biting insects though). Brownie points for supplying wine glasses in the kitchenette!

The location was very quiet with spacious grounds and trees. Some distance from the beach but ample car parking available at beach front.

The car parking was a little 'tight' for a large car. However, after our first night the manager directed me to a alternative place that was just fine.

    3DavidPosted on: 3-14-2025

The owner/manager who greeted me was very friendly and polite. I felt very welcomed by him. I had hoped for a place by the water in town but they were sold out which is how I found this Motel. It was nestled on a cute property that was a quick drive to everything in town. It felt adequately clean in the room.

The bad part is almost entirely comprised of the price versus the product. Everything felt small and cheap. I had just stayed for a week in Auckland in a high rise hotel with a large corner room and beautiful bathroom. By comparison The Aotearoa was $20 less per night than the Auckland hotel and was located in the middle of nowhere. The Aotearoa is the most spartan accommodation of tiny twin beds, tiny room, tiny bathroom, cheap everything from towels and beds and bedding, to the small things like the soap being the smallest cheap bar of soap and shampoo in a plastic baggie. This place is way overpriced for the product. Also no sound insulation from other guests in the hall or other rooms. I felt I was paying a city hotel rate for a backpacker quality. So all my complaints are basically on price. I think the property is way over priced for the product they offer.

The owner was super friendly - the rooms are aging, however the beds are very comfy and the unit was clean. Nice and close to township. The street where the property is located is great for star gazing.

The carpark was quite difficult to get in and out of. The shower pressure was low.

    7ApelacioPosted on: 2-17-2025

Place is clean and good size of rooms. Got everything we need. Close to beach. Quiet environment is very good for relaxation.

The shower in our room almost no water coming out. Took us time to prepare and take a bath because of the shower.

    5AlisonPosted on: 2-17-2025

    the pressure of the shower

The room lay out was not good with the dinning room beds, expensive for what it was, the other room had slight roll together in the bed, had to ask for toilet rolls and milk every day, Should have been done with the cleaning, Troy was pleasant though. We had a great room in Waihi the night before for the same price and it was very nice compared to this stay.

    9EvalynPosted on: 2-13-2025

Very clean, great for what we wanted. The manager was very welcoming and sorted everything quickly.

There was a large group who were quite noisy however when we closed the doors and windows couldn't hear anything

Lovely room and access to the guest lounge with a kitchen.

Bit out of town, you need a car
