    Pros +

    • The Motel is well located in the heart of Hanmer Springs, an easy short work to all the town's amenities including the renowned hot pools. The room was very clean and had almost everything you'd need. The bed was very comfortable, and had a selection of pillows (various thicknesses available) which I appreciated as I prefer a thin pillow, and often resort to using a motel towel if the standard pillows are all thick. The Kitchenette was functional, TV had some Sky channels which was good, and the shower had good hot water and decent flow. It wasn't the most modern unit I've ever stayed in, but it fulfilled its purpose adequately and overall was comfortable. I'd stay there again. The woman I dealt with (assume the owner) was lovely, engaging, and couldn't have been more helpful.
    • Great location and it was clean
    • We had a wonderful family stay at Alpine Lodge Motel. Lynette was incredibly friendly and easy to communicate with, which made everything so smooth. The location is perfect—right across from the pools! This was our second time staying here, and we’re already looking forward to coming back again soon.

    Cons -

    • Although I found an ironing board, I couldn't locate an iron which was a touch frustrating as I was there for a conference and wanted to iron by shirts. Not a biggie. Some units could be impacted by road noise given it sits just off the main road into Hanmer, but that wasn't an issue for me. You could request a unit well away from the road and it would solve that potential issue.
    • 10 AM is too early to check out
    • No bedside table or lights to read by.Very dark.Couldn't use bath as broken.Shower was over bath .Great pressure but very dangerous as I slipped as needed a non slip mat.

Beautiful view and central to everything in town

Person closed an hour early so we weren't able to get some amenities we needed, the room smelled old and a bit musty, the shower had issues draining and had to wait longer between showers for us to get ready and the shower was so small you could be bumping into all 4 sides at once, then the built in seat took up so much floor space you could hardly turn around.

Able to have a late checkin due to travel conditions at the time.Right across the road from the pools so nice easy access.

Not a dislike.... More of a disappointment..... We booked the room as it had a spa bath. On arrival it was not working for some reason.... Would have been nice to have the option to change rooms but the fault was not disclosed to us.

super clean, comfortable lodging in the heart of a small town with plenty to do. Lou and his wife are very thoughtful managers with much knowledge of the area. We travel New Zealand's 2-3 star lodgings and Alpine Lodge Motel in Hanmer Springs has been the most comfortable of all.

Excellent location, a walk across the street to the hot pools and down the block to the centre of town. Owners were super friendly and accomodating. Kitchen facilities had all of the necessities.

Fab location, lovely warm welcome from the owners

A little bit dated, needs a fresh coat of paint on walls lots of scuff marks and stains on the carpet

    The location was excellent

Walls were a bit thin but no one was too noisy. Not a big negative

Communication with the staff was top notch. We had a late check in after the office closed they left instructions for us plus turned on the heat pump so we arrived to a lovely warm room. Complimentary milk was placed in our fridge if we wanted a cuppa after a long day travelling. We loved the location do close to everything we parked the car up and walked to where we needed to go. Kitchen is well stocked. Room is set up for three people do there was three of everything in the kitchen. They leave you pool towels to take with you which is a nice touch means you don’t have to juggle shower and pool towels. Bed is super comfortable. We will definitely stay again. We were in room 12.

Walks were a little thin could hear the neighbours but nothing too major. Bathroom silicon needs a bleach or replace a little nothing major.

The location was excellent. The manageress was friendly.

The room was unfortunately quite dated and cramped. Not what we thought we had booked from the online pictures. The bathroom had a serious leak which had caused rotting in the door. There were patches of unpainted wall and the fridge was dirty (seals had a lot of mould). We did not raise this as the property was full and accommodation in hammer was very limited. Kiwis don't like to make a fuss!

    Location, parking, comfortable.

Small bathroom but all we needed for a few nights, so not really a problem.

    6NicolaPosted on: 4-23-2025

The location was perfect - few mins walk to the pools and super close to restaurants and shops. Kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. Staff were friendly and helpful, even walking us to our room and showing us around.

The shower was very average, water pressure was awful. We used it once and then never again, choosing to shower at the pools. It was dated, TV was old and the beds were too.

    Staff were very helpfulGood location

Thin walls between rooms could be noisy

    9MargiePosted on: 4-21-2025

Location was perfect, our room had everything we needed.

The shower a little difficult as over a spa tub which wasn’t working and had to climb in a little hard for my hubby with hip replacements.

If you're in Hanmer for the hot pools it's hard to find a better spot - basically just across the road, you can leave the motel in your togs and wander straight over! Manager was really friendly and helpful, sorted us with spare towels when we needed them, great place to stay.

    Location was good

The place was a hovel. There was poo on the bathroom wall. Piss on the bedroom wall and the place was overwhelming smell of mould. Felt unsafe no curtain over huge bathroom window and old latex gloves on ground outside window. Walls paper thin and we could the discusting people next door in the bathroom and banging on the walls.

    5HanaPosted on: 4-14-2025

Friendly owners and very close to hot pools, dairy, bars beds were clean and comfortable

Room was dated, first impression was not great. No wardrobe in the studio part, a flimsy cloths rack and iron board was tucked behind the telly , just felt cramped. People in neighboring rooms were out partying so was noisy when they got home. Would have been better to lump family’s together maybe? We stayed 2 nights and the room wasn’t serviced , not even wet towels replaced .
