Lovely old building Delightful staff. We had a wonderful platypus walk down the riverside in the evening. The food and service in their restaurant was super.

No one was there when we tried to check in. However when we called a member of staff was sent to check us in.

Convenient location in a lovely town. Very little contact w staff. Room and especially the bathroom were great. Convenient pub and restaurant on ground floor.

We never really figured out who the owner/manager was.

    10AngelaPosted on: 2-11-2026

Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is centrally located in Deloraine with easy access to the shops. Breakfast is included in the cost and dinner is available in the hotel. A great place to stay.

Our room was very spacious even though the staircase was narrow. Great parking available out the back. Make sure you have a delicious dinner the heading out on the free platypus tour before returning back to the bar for a final nightcap.

Really friendly staff, We felt comfortable straight away. Cycles cafe has great food & beverages and being in the centre of town was perfect.

The tiles on the bathroom floor were very slippery!

e stayed for one night before continuing our travels, and it turned out to be a perfect place to rest. The hotel is a beautiful historic building full of character and charming details. Our room was on the third floor, the breakfast room on the second, and the restaurant and bar on the first (we didn’t hear any noise during the night). The food was excellent, and the room was quiet and comfortable. The staff were wonderful, and a lovely bonus was the free platypus tour that departs from the hotel every evening at 7pm - we were lucky enough to see one up close.

The staff were fantastic. Super friendly and helpful. The restaurant in the hotel had good food, very convenient. It was near the walk along the Meander River and there was a fellow associated with the hotel who did a platypus tour in the early evening. I've lived in Australia for 36 years and have seen probably 2-3 platypus in the wild during that time. I saw more than that in the one hour tour. Deloraine isn't a very big place, so everything was conveniently located relative to the hotel. If you want a pristine, newly renovated accommodation, the Empire Hotel isn't for you. It's an "old-style, Aussie country hotel/bar/restaurant." Some of the furniture was probably original. It is, however, a quirky, interesting place to stay with very nice people running the operation.

The room was a little bit small depending on the amount of luggage you carry with you. It was a bit tight for us, but not a real problem. The only true fault was the ceiling fan that made a fairly annoying clicking noise which made it almost impossible to have it on if you are a light sleeper.

It was super quaint. A fellow gives free platypus tours from their doorway every evening but we missed it because our ferry was late. Very nice area to walk around to do a little small town sightseeing and shopping.

    Nothing to dislike.
