    Pros +

    • rooms are large, beds comfortable, full breakfast was delicious
    • A fascinating Costa Rican Hotel impeccably maintained and beautifully decorated. This place was just too cool to explain. You simply have to stay here at least one night.
    • The employees were excellent.

    Cons -

    • Water was not hot. It was warm, but not hot. Room had a musty smell when we first entered it. They did not have staff to help you take your bags to your room and we were at the the very top.
    • There is a giant 5 foot painting of Kim Jong-Un prominently displayed in the lobby. Given this hotel's proximity to the US embassy, I thought it was a pretty weird decorating choice. Are you trying to make North Korean spies feel at home? ... Laugh.

Accommodated our late arrival with communication in advance. EXCELLENT complimentary breakfast. Beautiful older structure.

Our room didn’t have a window… well it did but it was covered externally.

I love the feeling of the hotel with the spiral staircases and the beautiful artwork everywhere. Very authentic Costa Rican feel in quiet neighborhood.

Wonderful "artsy" decoration and architecture, elegant, "old world" charm and delightfully friendly and helpful staff - a refreshing change from those "modern" hotels with little personality

I thought the breakfast was a bit sparse, unless you opted for paid choices - and some soap in the bathroom would have been nice - there was just shower gel - but the other toiletry amenities were very good

We didn’t end up staying here because while we were checking in, we noticed a very large painting across from reception that exemplified the racist nature of the owner of the hotel. I wouldn’t spend a dime in a place like that.

Great stay, gated parking, great breakfast included, all staff was very nice and super helpful, and even had a gym and laundry room!

There was a slight drive to reach SJO airport (about 30 min), but certainly not a dealbreaker, would definitely stay here again.

This boutique hotel is quaint, well run and helpful knowledgeable staff. Note: if you are traveling with a disabled individual, this is not the hotel for you. Stairs are the only way to get everywhere, and they are narrow or steep at times. Free breakfast and other options for a price. Bar on premises open 2-10. There are 2 restaurants within walking distance-1 Bahí is right across the street and is excellent Chinese style food with huge portions. The paintings are amazing in every nook & cranny.I liked that you were treated like family. The only downside is that depending on where your room is, it can be noisy. All the floors are tile, so sound is not buffered

Breakfast staff and breakfast were excellent.

This hotel should not exist. You have to go up stairs then down the hall and then down stairs and immediately up stairs then down the hall and a few more stairs. The room was large and the beds excellent and the bathroom nice. However the 'window' faced directly a blank wall and had zero light, view or ventilation, this a false window.

The property was very cozy, beautiful art work, and very friendly staff

The gym appeared to also had been used for storage.

We used as a simple place to stay for a night between flights. So it was good. Clean rooms, easy parking and friendly staff. The breakfast was great.

Not sure how safe is the neighborhood- we asked the staff and they suggested us to take the car to have a bite 500m away. So , I assume is not a walkable neighborhood.

    10KurtPosted on: 1-10-2026

The staff were very kind and hospitable, letting us store our bags before check-in and bringing all of them up to the room for us when it was ready. The room was clean, comfortable, and relatively close to the airport, which was great.

The way to the room was a bit of a maze!

    Close to the airport

The room was claustrophobic, with no windows, like a jail cell. The shower had limited hot water, with not enough for two people to shower. The mattress on the bed had a slope to it that made it hard to sleep. Breakfast was very basic. They give you eggs and a couple of slices of toast but nothing to spread on the toast. We stayed two nights and the room was not cleaned or made up after the first night. The location, while close to the airport, was in a very sketchy neighborhood. The staff didn’t speak English very well and wasn’t willing to use Google translate to assist.

Presentation and ambiance. Breakfast was great. Staff were cheerfully helpful. Background jazz music very soothing. An altogether very relaxing experience

Very clean and comfortable. Cant tell much about the location as we only had one night stay. Decor is beautiful!!

Staff was ok, not very welcoming.
