    Pros +

    • The decoration all around the hotel
    • Location was perfect. Nice ambience. Good breakfast. Quiet at night.
    • Hotel El Fuerte was originally a nunnery or monastery a few hundred years ago, and it was amazing being part of the history of El Fuerte. The building has been updated of course, but still shows many of the original structure(s). The desk staff was very responsive as I had a lot of questions about transport and local activities, all of which they answered in advance. The price was very good for what we recieved - large rooms, friendly staff and great location.

    Cons -

    • The pool is quite small and looks as if it needs a little maintenance
    • A table on the roof would have been nice with a couple chairs. The view was great.
    • Everything worked well.

Conveniently located near the central plaza and restaurants

No breakfast available on a daily basis

I arrived early and since the room was ready they let me check in early which was very nice. Room was very spacious and well furnished.

It was amazing! Beautifully decorated , lots of thought in the detail , and lots of plants.

    Couldn’t fault it.

    Clean and specious room

The hotel was great overall, if there was something that could be improved is the AC. It worked but since there are no windows it felt a little muggy and it didn’t cool down in the 90 plus degrees.

Very themed, the location was great next to the main plaza. Everything was clean and it had a dedicated mini split AC for the room. Housekeeping was pretty good, had the necessities.

Cell reception was absolutely terrible coming from Verizon in the states and roaming in the area. WiFi was very slow 5-10 Mbps at the good points but the lobby WiFi was worse and signal was really bad. The room WiFi was slow and only work 1/3 nights I was there. I had trouble communicating with my family while sleeping overnight. Also, hot water in the bathroom was barely hot it was more warm than anything. They were renovating a room on the way to the one I stayed in, but they had tons of debris and trash blocking the hall way for the whole day just made it feel rough.

Convenient to main square and restaurants.

Pool was dry and looked unused

The building is over 300 years old. It’s a family home converted to a hotel. The family manages and lives onsite. The are very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the area. We spent most of time talking to the granddaughter, Angie. She will take over management of the property one day. Everyone is bilingual and friendly.

It is a beautiful property that was within walking distance of my work and the town center.

The beds are like sleeping on cement. The mattress is horrible. There should be a handrail to climb a few stairs to the bathroom. The Wi-Fi works in the entry patio, but not the bedroom. The TV is wonky and only worked after seeking instruction from the Hotel staff. Filtered water is available from a dispenser in the hallway outside the room rooms so you can refill your bottles if you desire. There is no bottled water delivered or available in the room. The room is, however, very clean and made up daily. Clean towels are available if desired on a daily basis. The dining room was available for breakfast and early dinner. I paid with pesos in cash, but assume a credit card payment might be available.

Hotel grounds are vast and charming

Smell if the room was stale, fan needs balancing, didn't even realize we had an AC until we left, our fault.

Love the colorful hacienda style, the details of the decorations, the beautiful courtyard, I can go on and on about this amazing hotel. The room is spacious and comfortable beds. Staff were super friendly and helpful. I enjoyed using their outdoor jacuzzi…so peaceful and there were a few pigeons just hanging around keeping me company. This hotel is exceptional! I will come stay here again next year.

I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about this hotel.

The hotel, situated within a 300-year-old hacienda style building was very atmospheric—with long corridors and inner courtyards lined with eclectic decorations, that were occasionally punctured by the sounds of fluttering pigeons in flight. Our room was spacious, especially the bathroom and wash basin area. Because of this however, the aircon may take a while to cool the room, especially in the sweltering weather of El Fuerte at this time of the year. That said, on the whole, this wasn't an issue for us. The location of the hotel, within walking distance of the plaza, was excellent. We could also easily walk over to the Museum El Fuerte-Mirador, as well as the walking path along the Rio Fuerte. Staff were pleasant, and Julia in particular took the initiative to check in whether we needed a taxi for our Chepe Express train the day before we were supposed to depart.

For the majority of our stay, we could only use the WiFi from the lobby. That said, the WiFi there was strong and worked well (even for uploading videos).

Neat, interesting building with nice small pool, and spacey, traditionally decorated, clean rooms. Very colorful and endless passages to explore. Awesome sunset views from the roof. Very close to towns main square and next to “Zorro Hotel”. Serves no breakfast but small simple cafe open next doors and plenty of restaurant options within 3 minutes of walking. They also contacted us with a great tour company.

Repetitive offer of very highly priced massage.

The building is beautiful, well located and well maintained

The TV was an old box, had to do tricks to close the door

Good location. Eclectic art in the common areas.

    No hot water.

300-year-old beautiful colonial-style building with a central courtyard full of beautiful flowers and antique decorations. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about area and the exquisite building.

no coffee service in the mornings had to go out 2 or 3 blocks to get coffee.

Beautiful property. Peaceful and serene. In the middle of town. Walking distance to the Plaza. Staff is very friendly and helpful! Looking forward to returning.

Lovely hacienda hotel, 1 block away from the main square. The hotel staff was very professional and helpful. The room was huge and comfortable. The photos of the place are reliable.

Caters to many groups which means it can get noisy. The shower was luke warm. The restaurant was closed so no food was available, no biggie though, as you could walk 10 minutes to the plethora of options in town. It would have been nice to explain that ordering a taxi to the train station would cost 200$ and not 60$ like on the way in. Because we shared it was cheaper, understand the logic and it wouldn't have changed the price, but it would have been nice to confirm with me first, instead of waiting for the taxi driver to bring it up.
